The first game using this Griffin engine is Tiny Village. Might be worth checking out but I'm not so sure if I want to play another time sink game....

here's a little development update from Headcase Games, if y'all are interested..

GunHead is coming along really nicely, it began life as an Android title and has since picked up speed on iOS and XBLIG as well. We're really working hard to make a side-scrolling platformer which doesn't use those virtual D-pads (which I really hate), the control mechanic has just passed the threshold where it is starting to feel as precise and appropriate like you wish it would (instead of just making you think "why can't the phone just have buttons!") I am very excited to release it, launching in April on the other platforms and shortly after that for Android.

We are also wrapping up development on a super-simple action/reflex game called Trapdoor, a very simple way to describe it would be sort of Fruit Ninja by way of Guitar Hero, but not really :P This one is pretty close to release, hopefully we can get it out the door in the next month. This will follow on iOS later down the road (it's just barely beginning development on that platform right now)

180 is still seeing nice steady downloads on Android, which makes me very happy, and ensures that I will be supporting this platform for a very long time to come :)

wow. Android is catching up. Seems to be that pretty soon the whole games-advantage for iOS will be out the window.

As someone that owns both platforms (but actually prefers Android as an OS), I'm just still not seeing it.

Yeah, Android has had a few good ports lately that have finally made their way over from iOS. It's even had a couple of simultaneous releases. But in that same time frame iOS has had a crazy amount of new exclusives and just keeps going from strength to strength.

I'm not even sure I could say that Android is any closer now than it was a year ago in terms of games. Because as much as it improves, iOS seems to keep improving even faster.

Totally agree, My family has iphone, ipad and android so I get to play with them daily at home. iOS games are still better. Just look at the iphone gaming OT thread, it's up to OT4.

Android is still way behind iOS, but at least it's got way more competent in the past year and change. There may only be a small amount of hi-quality product compared to what's on iTunes, but there's already more than enough to keep busy with, and it will keep growing steadily. It will still probably take a good year or two to build up some better momentum, but at least it is steady.

Not teasing. Check the Android market and view the latest comments. Might not be out for everyone yet, but they say it's "propagating".

Also, the developer link at Tiny Tower now points to TinyCo instead of Mobage, which developed an engine called "Griffin" that "allows us to develop simultaneously for iOS and Android". Things are looking up!

I got the update today! Here's a screen to prove it!

I'm working on the Top 25 Android games for IGN, but I mostly (not exclusively) play on iOS. Any Android-exclusives I need to make sure I poke around? Already on my radar (not guaranteed to make the final cut):

Cordy
Spectral Souls
Wind-Up Knight
Pollushot
Apparatus

Pixel Rain and Stay Alive are interesting.

I definitely wouldn't go that far at all

There are definitely way more good games on the Android Market now than there were a year ago, sure, but the problem is that the majority of these games were already on iOS for months (sometimes over a year!) before the Android version came out. Android has very little worthwhile exclusive games, and instead has to play catch up with iOS.

I'm glad that some devs are doing simultaneous launches with Android and iOS now (Sonic CD, for example), but iOS still has a ton more worthwhile games. I still really want to play Sword and Sworcery but I doubt it'll ever get an Android version. Chair has straight-up said that they won't do an Android version of Infinity Blade/IB2 because its much easier to pirate Android games compared to iOS. And I'd love to have Ghost Trick on my Kindle Fire but Capcom has released very little games for Android, although the Ace Attorney 1+2+3 HD announcement is a good start.

So yes, the gaming presence on the Android Market is getting better, but it still doesn't hold a candle to iOS. I'm seriously considering getting an iPhone as my next phone purely because of the app selection.

Can anyone recommend me some games similar to puzzle quest? The only one i have is Dungeon Raid which I love.

I tried the demo of puzzle quest 2 on my mini pro. it can run it, but it doesn't properly support my screen size :/
(screen is chopped)

That just seems like an excuse they are using to placate users to me.

EDIT: It's not an argument that piracy isn't a problem and it's not an argument that it's not easier to pirate on Android.

Just wrote a whole huge response to this and accidently clicked refresh. Long story short things have improved massively since I got my first Android device in October 2010, and they are only getting better. The games in the Humble bundle are mind blowingly awesome for instance.

I've heard a good amount of complaints like crashing and bad load times so i've been hesitant to buy it.

I don't think anyone is denying that the amount of good games on the Market now is way better than a year ago. But to say that Android gaming is getting close to being on par with or surpassing iOS gaming is wrong. It's certainly made some strides in the past year but it's got a lot more to go.

Giana Sisters is on sale for $2.10USD, normal price $5.  Seems like a decent game, supports Xperia controls.

Yeah, I was curious about Giana Sisters myself. I'm assuming it has most of the same levels as the DS version, which I remember some gaffers raving about. The one thing that makes me hesitant is that some of the reviewers were saying the controls were really sluggish on their device.

any word about Sword and Sworcery coming to Android?

I want that game so bad, but I probably will be going from Droid X ---> Galaxy Nexus soon.

I read they said people on Android don't pay for games. Lame. Honestly I think it's money left on the table. People will pay for quality when they see it.

This idea seems so ridiculous to me. I'm incredibly frugal with my money and I buy what I think is a good amount of things from the Market. I'm sure other less frugal people buy much more, and there are way more people with Android devices than any other kind out there. Now keeping the Apple craze in mind, it does seemlike people with Apple devices love to blow money on all kinds of crap that non-Apple users don't but still.

The touchscreen controls work okay. It's not like the game is as complex as Super Mario Bros. In fact, it is so much simpler than SMB that it is rather boring to me. I don't see what the rave is about, except for the art.

There's a range of factors all coming together here: a (historically) worse selection of apps, a (historically) worse marketplace interface, a (continuing) lack of certainty as to how well apps will work on a given device, and a (significant, ongoing) deficit specifically in the high-volume game segment all push down Android revenues. (The early focus on free, ad-supported apps can't have helped either.)

If Android keeps selling as well as it does I do expect its app revenues will keep creeping upwards, and maybe get closer to parity, but some portion of that stigma will probably stick around forever.

Not sure if its available overseas aswell but Modern Combat 3 is free on the Galaxy S2 Samsung App in Australia. Its normally $7.50, its the full version not a trial.

Modern Combat 3 is awesome, its like MW3. Best graphic game i have seen on the Droid so far.

I just hate touch controls.

Also Modern Combat 2 is free aswell on the Samsung App store, it is the full version aswell.

Yes this is true, and unfortunately where there is stigma there always will be to some extent. Also I think I still have to restate my point about Apple devices being money makers, as for whatever reason people just love to blow money on that platform over any other that I've seen.

On a side note I've been loving the games in the Humble Bundle. Just first class gaming all around really!
