you cant really compare heroes with different roles in pub games, but when it comes to supporting I think he is far better than jakiro, sven and Io.

Jakiro is a great support for all-in push strats and does good aoe damage, so he actually has a use, albeit a very niche one. He's also naturally tanky and an awesome mek carrier. Ice Path is pretty shitty, but at least it's an actual disable that he doesn't have to channel.

Sven is a fairly item-independent support that does huge damage and is tanky. Has an AOE stun on short cooldown and a free steroid for his ultimate.

Io... Wisp is one of the most broken supports in the game. Able to globally teleport any teammate for incredible gank power, free max movement speed for him and any other hero, free attack speed for any hero and him, incredibly annoying balls that do damage and give vision. Sorry but there's a reason this guy is still not in captain's mode.

Axe is crappy but at least he can free up a lane and jungle, and his dot damage is annoying as hell and completely spammable.

Warlock just sucks. His heal sucks -- Dazzle and Omni's are way, way better, doing instant heal AND damage at the same time. His slow is okay, I guess, but he has to channel the damn thing so people end up walking out of Upheaval before it can even slow all that much, AND it's on a massive cooldown. Fatal Bonds is a great spell, but it's not gamebreaking like Tide where you'll pick him for the ulti. Rain of Chaos is just ass, it does crap damage, crap stun, the Golem isn't as great at pushing as you think (Prophet's Treants are 100x better, Chen and Enchantress creeps are 100x better, Serpent Wards are 100x better, Veno wards are on like a 3 second cooldown and push better than Golem), and the Golem can't even chase or do any damage. Only good use it's for is to knock Enigma BKB out of blackhole (but then why choose Warlock when you can choose Vengeful Spirit?).

Sven and Jakiro are much better gankers though.

do you mean ganker as solo mid? there are far better heroes that suits the role.

Jakiro is a bad hero overall, ofc any hero can work in pubs but the problem with him is his animations, they are terribly slow and delayed, I do think he is that way because of his model in the warcraft 3 engine, would be nice if they speeded his spell animations up a bit.

he can push tho, that is like the only good with him.

Sven is a kind of a good roamer during the early game, his stun has one of the highest early spell damage output of all heroes in the game, lv 2 stun damage a lot when every hero is around lv 3 and the stun is an AoE that can stun nearby enemies. But when mid and lategame comes he is just gonna do his stun and thats it, then he is pretty much useless.

not every ganker have to be a solo mid hero

I dont know about the dota 2 role names, when I think of "ganker" i think kind of a semi-carry who ganks early/mid game like Pudge, Beastmaster or Puck, who needs the extra Xp to be able to do the highest dmg output as possible in order to gank successfully.

Ryan Reynolds, the noob Zeus speaking here. I'll be getting on to play another game in the next few hours. If anyone would be willing to set up another "noob" game, and help coach new players that'd be great. I'll pop into NeoGAF chat when I hop on.

Sven seems a pretty shitty support. His skills scream carry, which is what he used to be used for.

I think Jakiro would benefit from ice path being fissure range and leaving a slow on the target or in the area. Also macropyre should be changed. Its completely horrible compared to dot ultis like veno.

A ganker in a side lane is more of an aggressive pusher imo, sure they can gank mid, but usually you'll see them nab kills in their own lane and take towers, maybe semi carry. Whereas a ganker in mid will be moving around everytime the lanes are pushed.

Tell that to the chinese teams that used to run him. A carry with a stun and a built in DD is really powerful.

link some VODs or War3-replays please. Never seen that, and if there was one it would probably be a lol-pick for playing vs a lol-team.

A 2 sec stun that does magic damage and no survival ability to survive ganks isnt very good for being a hard carry.

Svens a support/semi-carry, no way he's a full carry, he can't do shit late game. Maybe a ganker if you want to play him like that.

i was playing sand king in MM, question so um his Ulti is canceled if i try to blink or use other spells? What's the best way to set it up?

Channel it fully (it cancels if it's not fully channeled), blink in, use burrowstrike + BKB/BM/other items if you have them.

I wanna try out Lina.

Problem is I haven't seen many players using her.

What are some basic builds and what are some basic strategies? Nothing too complex (I like to figure out my own gameplans and tend to never follow 100% laid out directions anyway) but knowing which lanes to focus on or what to build is a good starting place.

Only other INT character I play is Zeus.

Tons of item store related info/pictures and pictures of the store are out too. And yeah TF2 is Valve's test game. So it's basicly 95% sure it will be F2P, just like LoL and HoN(is that f2p?) are.

Only difference is, Dota 2 will be more cosmetic while with LoL you pay for heroes..

Aren't there pictures of special couriers. Like there's a courier that looks like juggernaut
DotA2_JuggDogCourier.jpg

That could be something someone pays for.

Made a bit of progress in my latest match against bots on the noob scale. I leveled up pretty well and I understand the item/shop system now. Have a better feel for getting killing blows on creeps. Still seem to get destroyed by enemy heroes though. Even on easy. I just get stunned and bum rushed every time. Maybe I need to run with other friendly heroes more often?

That's pretty much what you should always do, running by yourself is very dangerous if you are a beginner. (and even for pro's actually)

So leaving lanes without any players in them is something that's normal? I'm seriously asking, I'm a complete MOBA noob.

Don't overextend. It takes a while to learn the hero you're playing and what they're capable of against the enemy. As a general rule, you want to be as close as possible to your tower during the laning phase. Once the laning phase ends, you want to stick with the team.

Nothing's universally true, though, except "Don't get caught out of position."

this is the worst birthday ever i hate all of you so much no one is ever being invited to my parties AGAIN

I didn't know dark seer was OP. :,(

Later in the game, yes. If the creep wave is far away from your tower it's too dangerous to go alone, or even in groups of two or three, since backup is far away and the enemy can easily gank with all 5 players. So what you end up doing is leaving that lane to its own business until the creep wave end up close to your own tower, where it's much safer to farm.

If you are a carry you should be farming.

If you're able to farm your lane safely, do so.

If not, play safe, you can't afford to die. Or if you're really unable to do anything, beg for a gank or ask to swap to a more manageable lane.

If your lane is empty, and you see 3 or 4 enemies on the minimap in other lanes than yours, and the enemy's primary ganker is visible, it is safe to farm.

If your lane is empty, and you don't see anyone in other lanes, it is not safe to farm.

If jungle is up, and none of the lanes are safe and you have wards watching the river entrances to your jungle, go farm the jungle.

If you can solo ancients, and there wards wards watching the river entrances leading up to ancients, go farm ancients.

If your support isn't warding jungle/ancients, yell at them to ward.

If your support isn't stacking jungle/ancients, yell at them to stack. Stack times are 52 +/- 3 seconds.

If you lose as a carry, blame the rest of your team. It's never your fault.
