Also, I'm not sure if the Giants put 12 men on the field on purpose, but if they did it was brilliant. Hope the reporters ask about that.

Earlier in the year I saw a post about Buddy Ryan's Goaline D where he would instruct 12 men to go in if there were less than 15 seconds to go and the team was inside the 5. Why wait to get inside the 5? 12 men and let them eat clock. Worth the risk.

Yeah the Polish Goal Line he called it. Tuck was running off and wasn't an active defender, but maybe it was an attempt at baiting Brady? He certainly wasn't running hard

That's the type of bet where you lay a quick hundred on crazy odds just for kicks. Laying a thousand for that type of payout is pretty dumb.

Then again, the dude did actually win the bet(allegedly) so who are we to talk.

If he willing to do something like that, I bet he's lost way more than he's won

They didn't do it on purpose. Doesn't mean that teams shouldn't though.

Yeah I don't think they did it on purpose.

The 13 man defense though worked out pretty good for LSU a couple years ago.

Is there a rule in place prohibiting a team from just putting 15 guys into the game on defense for those kind of scenarios?

Casual football viewer here, and I have a question about the NE/Baltimore game:

What will happen to the Ravens' kicker (I don't even know his name)? Is he like automatically out of the NFL forever? Is his life in danger?

If I was reffing I'd call unsportsmanlike conduct. Can't allow that shit :jnc

Probably nothing. His life in danger? No. Will he have a job next season? Maybe.

As Bradford and Ben and Pouncey and Freeney and Gronk have all proven, high ankle sprains are killers. Easier to come back from a minor leg fracture

NY deserved to win. There was some luck involved, however. Every single loose ball went their way.

Gronkowski hurt his team being out there. The Patriot receivers should feel guilty for not catching balls that were highly catchable.

Yeah, it wasn't a great game. A shadow of Super Bowl 42, IMO. I know people get all "that was boring until the 4th QTR" but only if you dislike watching good defenses play.

Still, the 1st QTR and the second half of the 4th QTR were pretty decent. Oh and we won:).

On your McKenzie point? Yeah, can't happen quickly enough. Amazing considering how good he was last season, too.:(

Yeah, I don't think it was a bad game or that boring, just sloppy.

Thought Spikes played a hell of a game, hesitated a bit at times, but man does he pack a load. He's not a great athlete and has his faults, but the fucker shows up and plays with a nasty edge. Played the same way at Florida. Mayo is so overrated, knows a slant is coming and doesn't even make a play on the ball.

Can't believe Blackburn made that play, pretty crazy. Props to Fewell too, gave some crazy looks. Think he had a MLB play FS, looked like three deep not a two deep with deep mike, on that Tuck sack.

If they did it on purpose, why would they only put 12 on the field? Wouldn't 13 (or more) be more effective?

We had a discussion about it, and from what I recall the official would stop the play dead if 13 were on the field, but honestly I'm not sure. There needs to be clarification.

Yeah was wondering about this. If the other team has the ball deep in their own end with little time left why not just send out 12 guys every time? If they need a TD I'll trade 5yds for 8 seconds every single time.

Definitely, interesting to see where this goes. It's definitely a tactic everyone should use.

Edit: Yeah, squick, Polish GL D.

Honestly though it had to have killed Peyton somewhere inside to miss the entire season and then to see little bro win his 2nd title in Indy of all places.

So he will sign with the Cowboys to put Eli in his place.

Yo darkside...you have an apology for ripping my Giants Super Bowl Champs pick pre DAL/NYG Week 17 game. To refresh your memory you laughed at my prediction saying they wouldn't even beat the Cowboys. Kiss my ass dipwad.

Who the fuck are you?

I'll assume you're a Giants fan. Congrats. First team in SB history to win one without winning 10 games in a season. If you said you saw it coming then you're either a crazy Giants fan or totally delusional.

Congrats to the Giants fans. Fuck the haters, the superior Manning plays in New York.

Sad for my boy Tom, but just as happy for Manningham (fellow Michigan men). hopefully one day my Browns will know the feeling of Super Bowl victory. Fun game to watch though not the ending I wanted to see.

He'll be on a reality show with bill buckner, wes welker, and the punt return clown from the niners.

Don't forget Nelson Cruz. He has somehow completely eluded the rancor of the public. In my opinion, his blunder was worse than any of the other guys'. Cruz blew a catch my little sister could make and it cost his team their first title.

We can't allow these tactics to be common in football, this isn't basketball screw fouling to win.

Maybe 12 men on the field with under two minutes should result in a 11 on 10 powerplay!

I could watch that Eli to Manningham pass forever. Considering the stakes, it's one of the greatest plays I've ever seen (note: Giants bias here). If you watch it again, the window of opportunity to drop that ball into was extremely small - almost nowhere to throw it. When Eli first let it go, I thought there was no chance of a completion. His placement was absolutely amazing. Then, for Manningham to grab it, manage to get both feet down, and maintain possession to the ground, curving his elbow under him to ensure the ball didn't touch the turf... just phenomenal.

People are gonna want to make comparisons to the Helmet Catch, of course. I'll never forget that iconic image and all the madness that preceded it on that play, but as exciting as that was, this supplants it in my mind in terms of greatness. Back in '08, Eli basically just heaved it down the middle of the field toward Tyree. The catch itself was unbelievable, but I'd be lying if I said there wasn't some luck mixed in with determination when the ball gets pinned against a guy's helmet like that.

Here, it was pure skill evidenced at both ends. Fantastic.

Evidently theres a rule in place called the Palpably Unfair Act.

Giants used 12 men on the field intentionally. Patriots should have been awarded a touchdown.

Because it's easier to pretend that never happened.

I'm the guy who predicted the Giants championship when you said they wouldn't even beat the Cowboys. You're the delusional one. I'm a Bears fan BTW.

No, the helmet catch was much better. Just because Eli was almost sacked, and catching a pass with your helmet is much more unique.

darkside you are very amusing when you're salty.

EDIT - Manningham's catch was great for the same reason that, say, Santonio's catch was great. Neither of them can really be compared to the helmet catch.

This quote can be summed up in one perfect phrase: it's all a game of inches

Nobody remembers about Nelson Cruz because nobody gives a crap about Texas Rangers baseball. It's not even the third most relevant sport in the state of Texas.

Wait why is darkside salty? Is this a Jets/Giants thing?

by the way i just want to say fuck the refs again. 2nd quarter when the pats stripped the giants it was an identical play to when we stripped bradshaw in the NFC title game, but the refs ruled ours forward momentum stopped. in the superbowl the pats would've gotten the ball if not for the 12 men penalty

Funny thing about that play is that I heard the whistle before the strip, and they ruled that it was a fumble (despite the penalty).

Wait, I was pretty sure I heard a whistle there before the ball came out.
