Whats up with the Eagles hate?

They had a better point differential than the Giants, and were .500 overall, one game behind the Giants. If they get some actual WRs and are able to do a better job keeping Vick up right they really should be the division favorites going into next season.

I think they'll win the division next year and it'll be by at least 2 games.
 
i keep rewatching that wes welker drop. i shouldn't do that. it's killing me. he got both hands on the ball, he should have caught that. sure, brady could and should have thrown it lower, but i guess brady saw the three 'backs around him and didn't want to force it or something.

i really do feel the game would have been over if he caught that. run the ball a few times, keep the clock moving, you can still pick up a first down without getting a td. man, this blows.

ugh.

brady and the patriots will be fine, though. still have a few more seasons out of brady, i can see another super bowl appearance in the future.

now on to baseball. LG METS!

Just never liked him, he seems like a arrogant prick, plus he beat my team in a super bowl (The Eagles).

Also I watch more the 5 minutes of football a year, just dont watch it every weekend. The superbowl really doesn't matter to me unless The Eagles, Steelers, Texans are in it. I have rooted against Brady every time he has been in a super bowl.

Fitz is a gamer, guy played hurt after the Redskins game, played terribly when he did get hurt, but I just don't think he has the skills to put you over the top. Surround him with a very good defense and maybe you have something.

No touch on deep throws, can't win with dink and dunk. It's not like you need a 40-50 yard bomb, a nice 30 yard fade will do but he's too inconsistent in that dept.

I think the Dolphins will try to do whatever they can to shore up QB position, think that owner is a bit of a clown though. Clown with money.

Yeah, I tend to lean that way as well. We'll find out this year, they'll pick up a couple of receivers for sure.

Dude, take it from me. Never, ever use jealousy as a reason for hate. Brady gets a lot of press and praise, most people don't identify with him and he comes off as a little aloof. Hate is natural, roll with it and laugh at it.

5. Tom Brady is the game’s best short passer – ever. But his issues with the deep ball cost him and the Patriots dearly.
The entire first half, Brady didn’t throw a ball more than 20 yards in the air, but it didn’t matter. Their 14-play, 96-yard drive to cap the first half was a thing of beauty.

Purists might miss the days of three yards and a cloud of dust, but the Patriots have reinvented it as seven yards and a blur of action.

But when he did throw deep, it was a disaster. He threw a pick on a deep pass to Rob Gronkowski in the fourth quarter, and when he needed to make the big downfield strike he couldn’t.

How big was the limited ability of Gronkowski? It wasn’t the deciding factor. But in a game where every play was huge, not having him in peak position didn’t help. Gronkowski set tight end records for receiving yards and touchdown catches in 2011, but in the biggest game of the year he caught just 2 passes for 26 yards and couldn’t bail out his QB even when covered by linebacker Chase Blackburn.

Top ten in both offense and defense. Their problems this year were turnovers and defensive coaching. Turnovers tend to even out, plus they were much better in that area once Vick came back. The big question is going to be the D, but I think they will be much improved next year. Even with all their problems they missed the playoffs by 1 game, and they blew 5 4th quarter leads. Eagles should definitely be near the top of the pre-season favorites, not that it means anything anyway.

I think he has the mental skills already available and will hone his physical abilities with experience. He can already read defenses well. We're spoiled by all the elite quarterbacks and we forget how it's normally done. He needs time to get a solid offensive program going.

I can't hate Brady and he's an excellent quarterback, but I can't shake the idea that outside of 07 he's been riding the system to an extent, as have most offensive players on that team. I keep going back to the fact that Cassel was so solid in the same offense that the team finished 11-5 and he got parlayed into a 2nd round pick and yet sportswriters thought the Pats got hosed on that deal.

The question isn't whether Brady is a great QB or not, it's just tough to tell HOW great. On one hand, he's benefitted from brilliant offensive systems, on the other hand he was so good in 2007 that you just can't ignore it.

Interesting article. Don't agree with everything on it, but it points out a few key stats:

What if we told you there was a quarterback in the last seven years that won two league MVP awards, won 78.4% of his regular season games, and had a 101.8 passer rating with a 203:63 TD-to-INT ratio? He led three of the 10 highest scoring teams in NFL history in that span.

Then what if we told you that same quarterback in the postseason had a 7-6 record (.538), 0-2 in the Super Bowl, lost two home playoff games by 26 points and had an 87.1 passer rating with a 27:17 TD-to-INT ratio? Finally, in those three historically high-scoring seasons, he lost in the playoffs by scoring only 14, 21 and 17 points (the 14 and 17 represent season-lows).

That is not a fictional quarterback at all. That is Tom Brady from 2005 to 2011.

But this game also exposed the flaws that still exist in Brady’s game after all these years.

First, it’s the fact that he’s more susceptible to pressure getting to him in the pocket and making his level of play deteriorate more than usual. The Giants didn’t always get much pressure, but the few times they did, it was usually very successful in throwing Brady off his game.

The problem Brady has here is his lack of mobility to extend plays. When the Giants pressured Aaron Rodgers and Alex Smith in the previous games, those quarterbacks rushed for 66 and 42 yards, respectively. They could move well enough to create positive plays for their teams. Brady doesn’t have the same ability, and in this game, he never scrambled once.

Then there are the tight throws into coverage. We saw Eli Manning make several of these in the game, including the biggest play: 38 yards to Manningham. They don’t all have to be deep balls, as Manning also gunned an 8-yard pass in to Victor Cruz in the fourth quarter in a tight window.

These are the types of throws that need to be made some times to have success. The Patriots do an incredible job of spreading the field with five good options to throw to, and no team does a better job of creating mismatches and getting receivers wide open.

But every quarterback is going to have plays where things don’t work, and they have to find that tight window to throw into, and Brady has not done a good enough job at that.

Chad Ochocinco had the longest gain of the night for New England; a mere 21 yards. In Brady’s five Super Bowls, his longest pass plays of the game have been 23 (Rams), 52 (Panthers), 27 (Eagles), 19 (Giants 2007), and 21 (Giants 2011) yards.

Brady has thrown 9 TD passes in his five Super Bowls. The distances on those plays are 1, 2, 4, 4, 5, 5, 6, 8, and 12 yards. The last came Sunday night to Aaron Hernandez.

In the two Super Bowls against the Giants, Brady is 0/13 with an interception on passes thrown 20+ yards. The Patriots rely on yards after the catch to get explosive plays, which isn’t always easy to do. Sometimes you just have to sling it.

Well, Peyton isn't ruling out Miami. Dude's 36. He's probably got 2 more years in him.

I'd rather draft a good QB that isn't RG3 or Luck (only saying this beause won't get either one), and keep Moore.

is this real life? it was a good, tough game. Tom threw a few bad balls, but not many. the NYG defense simply made every throw difficult. His second best (and arguably most important) receiver had a bad wheel and they were probably one completion to Welker away from winning that game. Or one defensive stop. That pass to Manningham killed them, not Brady. I mean, unless Brady also plays Cornerback.

Also, NYG did the same to all the other teams they played in the post-season...and ON THE ROAD. They're a very good team that puts it together in the playoffs. None of the teams they beat were frauds; NYG is just legit and found a way to win.
 
Smarter move would be to trade up and get RG3 instead of going after Peyton Manning.

Shocked the Vikings aren't going after him since that's their M.O. when it comes to HoF quarterbacks.

Then there were the three Brian Sipe incidents, during the '78, '81, and '83 seasons, three set pieces from the same script. Each time Lambert hit the Cleveland quarterback as he was releasing the ball. Too late, decided the referee, who was Ben Dreith the last two times. Each time Lambert got mobbed by the Browns' bench, each time he was flagged, and twice he was ejected from the game and fined by the league.

Dammit. I'm still so numb from the loss. So many missed opportunities on both sides of the ball, we just didn't deserve to win it. I'm excited for the offseason, the Pats could make a lot of good moves, but I've said that the past few years so who knows what will happen. We need to go and get one top player from FA, Mario Williams would be awesome obviously, so would Bowe, VJ, or Desean.

Congrats Giants fans, hopefully next year ends differently.
