SHOCKING NEWS: Tweets About Prophet Muhammad Spark Saudi Death Threats

The Arabic newspaper article reporting his capture has some of the most despicable comments I've ever seen. Literally everyone going "OFF WITH HIS HEAD" to set an example for the unbelievers. This is really heavy, depressing stuff.

Muslim-GAF, don't take this the wrong way. But I vote for either sending a bunch of Southern Baptists or Richard Dawkins down there for a conversion mission.

It would make a great sit-com.

worst religion in the world
Most ignorant post in the thread.

Just when you thought it was bad enough: A Facebook group calling for his execution has reached over 8000 members already. :/

Urgh.

I'd love for a more moderate voice from elsewhere to stand up, but alas that's not going to happen - thus the voice of the angry mob is going to be the only voice.

If Saudi Arabia and all the wahabi fucks disappeared off the face of the earth tonight, I wouldn't shed a single damn tear.

Wait... so the offensive tweets say the person won't bow down to Muhammad? Well, you're not supposed to bow down to him... he's simply a role model, Muslims don't worship him (I'm a Muslim by the way). Just goes to show how dumb those are that are giving these death threats.

There's nothing offensive about those tweets, goddamn what in the saudi fuck.

There's not a single person on earth who thinks Prophet Muhammad is divine and there's not a single Muslim on earth that bows down to Muhammad. No Muslim, especially from the wahabi thought, prays for Muhammad. It's clear to every Muslim that Muhammad was a mere mortal. Where the hell is the outrage coming from?
You fail to see the problem.
Even if the guy tweeted about muhammad having gay sex with satan, he should not receive any death threats.
Radical islam needs to grow the fuck up.

@:-(>

Well duh, extremists are crazy... but his point (and mine as well), is that these people are also stupid in their own beliefs. It's an absolutely fundamental belief of Islam that God is the only one we worship, so we would never pray to or bow down to Muhammad. So not only are these extremists crazy and irrational, they're also dumb and ignorant.

That is fucking extreme and retarded...guy doesn't deserve to get killed for THAT.

Off topic: All the "religion of peace" posts are fucking retarded too.

I wonder why there is no "Arab Spring" in Saudi Arabia? Its people deserves better.

the people over there who want change are up against some pretty brutal opponents. we have to remember it takes some special kind of courage to stand up against injustice when it means risking your life and possibly family members' lives.

I guess eternal bliss in paradise isn't enough of a motivator ;)

I wonder what he feels about his religion now.
The problem in Saudi Arabia is not about the religion. It's all about the shitty ruling/clerical regime over there. To my understanding, Saudi Arabia is the only country out of "GCC countries" who has exiled opposition abroad (Islamists opposition from both sects) and It's one of the worst regimes in the middle east that has a US free ticket to detain reformers or opponents to the regime. The western media, overall, seems to be mum about the human rights abuses over there.

A show of power by the beards. It's depressing how they can intimidate a whole nation (and beyond) with their rage and violence.

Yeah I can't believe these Buddhists want to kill some guy just because he tweeted that he wouldn't pray to Buddha or bow to him.

Given the rise in violence targeting Coptic Christians in Egypt, what makes you so sure religious freedom would improve?
how come there is no pressure on the regime over there to do radical reforms in order to diminish the clerical influence over the public?

the ruling/clerical regime is fueling this crisis. read the public statements the offical clerical establishment.

how come a king is ordering the capture of a young 23 year old because of his opinion? is he that scared of his clerics who are already on his payroll? smh

The people are essentially bribed. Most actual Saudi citizens live a very comfortable lifestyle that is heavily subsidized by the royal family.

EDIT: Also, I would think a good deal of the Saudi population has no problem with what is going on here, but I would like AgentWhiskers to comment on that.

Hell no. Most people aren't very comfortable. We're not the UAE or Qatar.

Stepping aside from the religion of peace trolling for a second... Why exactly does Islam have the perception of being the most prominently violent, misogynistic, intolerant religion out there?

Most of you have probably heard of the guy that chopped off his wife's' fingers so she couldn't study, or the guy in America who ran a TV station about moderate Muslims then beheading his wife with a sword... I mean is it just me or do you really not hear about this shit from any other religion?

Yeah, praising the broken clock that is right twice a day is faint praise.

lol

You may consider it a broken clock being right, I would say not killing people based on their opinions is a fundamental part of living in a civilized society.
This case involves freedom of speech, religion and the press (he is a columnist), concepts that many (like the founding fathers) would consider some of the cornerstones of human rights.

It's like you are applauding an adult for not shitting his pants.

I will return to my initial point which, despite your attempts to obfuscate and derail, still stands.

lol religion.

To my understanding, Saudi Government 'rarely' publishes poverty figures, so, nobody knows exact numbers of people living in poverty or below poverty line.

Recently, The Saudi Gov detained a vlogger because he created a mini documentary about the poverty in his country.

http://thelede.blogs.nytimes.com/20...tedly-detained-for-showing-poverty-in-riyadh/

Here is the documentary he published:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SlSBqgW5xx0

It seems that the Saudi Gov refuses to acknowledge this issue. Almost all power and wealth resides amongst few of the royal family members.

just think about the late crown prince estimated fortune. It's reportedly at $270 billion. I wonder where did he get all that money from?

Once again, I'm talking about actual Saudi citizens, not just residents of the country. It's the citizens who have power, and I was under the impression that the citizens were pretty well off.

I don't think you can become an actual citizen of Saudi Arabia, unless you can prove to be a true descendant of Saudi Arabia.

All of that stuff you posted is on the books also when it comes to Christianity and The Bible. It wasn't too long ago that this violent behavior was accepted in Christian nations- the Salem Witch Hunts, the Spanish Inquisition, The Crusades, The Slave Trade, Colonialism etc... You can also argue that this Christian extremism exists today with the Bush Administration invoking God and Christianity in starting their illegal invasion of Iraq. I'm just saying...

and I'm talking about the Saudi Gov and 'actual saudi citizens'. read the post again, it's about Saudi Arabia and its people not the foreigner workers over there.

It's like you are applauding an adult for not shitting his pants.

No one is applauding an adult for not shitting his pants.
Where are the "hooray for Taoism for not killing people over tweets!" comments in this thread?
It's like one adult shit his pants, and your reaction is "lol adults"
And my response is "What about all the adults who didn't shit their pants?"
While there is obviously no reason to applaud them for something that we expect in a civilized society (which is why no one is doing so), it makes little sense in a thread about one adult shitting his pants to laugh at all adults.

Every religion has it's zealots. I think some countries need more time to secularize their societies.

Not too long ago you'd be killed in MANY "Christian" nations for insulting God. People need to keep in mind that this is a VERY recent development in society where we've grown past the need to LITERALLY stone people and kill them for Blasphemy.

It's naive to expect the entire planet to come around at once. It'll take longer than our lifetimes or our children's children's lifetime. I say another millennium, minimum.

Your appropriation of my analogy fails because you are changing the subject. You are free to abandon this any time you wish to get back on topic.

lol religion.

Not gonna read the entire thread as I know that thread such as this will gradually devolve into "LOL Islam" or " LOL religion of peace". But yeah, basically what RustyNails said. Muhammad(pbuh) not being a divine being is one of the core concepts of the faith

No one can become a "citizen", we're "subjects".
BTW you can get naturalised.

How am I changing the subject?

Because I presented it only in reference to your praise of Buddhists who don't kill in response to offense. You are attempting to rework it to mirror my commentary on religion, but it won't work, because I did not frame it as such.

Anyway, hooray for Buddhists not killing people. I celebrate that with a quote from Chris Rock: I take care of my kids!
