Double Fine Adventure Kickstarter project by Double Fine [ended, $3.3 Million funded]

I'd rather them use the extra money to make one awesome polished game, rather than multiple games. I would also like them to use the money to get the game running on Mac and iOS.

I wonder what the budgets for their last few direct download games have been. Tim mentions XBLA games can cost two or three million dollars, so it would seem like every dollar they generate over 400k would easily be put to good use.

Now with the possibility of so much excess funding, I'm curious if DF will be transparent in how they are to spend the money. Would people even be interested in seeing the breakdown?

They already said they'll use the extra to port to more systems and translate to more languages

I've been refreshing every second for like a minute and there is always an extra 50-100 dollars in there.

Incredible.

Almost to 700k

[edit] If only we could raise this much for charity or something.

UPDATE!

WoooooooooOOOOoooOoOoooOOooo!

UPDATE: We did it! 100% funded in just over eight hours. You people are amazing! But it's not over yet. The number keeps going up and now the question is just how much news do we want to make with this? We're getting a lot of attention already and it seems like this little project could have an impact beyond itself.

All money raised will go to make the game and documentary better. Additional money means it can appear on more platforms, be translated into more languages, have more music and voice, and an original soundtrack for the documentary, and more!

Your backing and comments have been truly inspiring to me and the team, so on behalf of Double Fine and 2 Player Productions I want to say THANK YOU!!!

I can't wait to see where this thing can go!

I'm torn. Trenched is the only game they have made I enjoyed (well I was on the fence with costume quest until I hit the fry costume bug ...ugh)

Yet every single time they are on a giantbomb tnt/quicklook or they are talking about how they run shit I'm excited.

Just added my measly $15. This is pretty awesome. If this takes off, I can see studios showing their game designs and prototypes on KickStarter in a bid to gather consumer dollars.

Their original budget was 300,000 for the game and 100,000 for filming, no? So they've doubled the game budget now in less than 24 hours?

Fuck it, raising it to $30. I'm not rich like some of you, but that awesomely edited Grim Fandango LP is so fucking impressive that I need that making of documentary and soundtrack! Plus, more money for the game!

So now we get 6 levels instead of 5.

All joking aside I hope it is a big game like Grim Fandango. It will be incredible if Tim and the team can make a game without any suits mouth breathing down their neck to make the game a first person shooter set in the middle east. Full creative freedom will be the success of this game.

Charity is great and all, but I feel like it needlessly gets brought up every time there is talk about grass roots funding for a project such as this. Please understand that the two are not mutually exclusive and that donating to get this project funded does not necessarily mean that someone will not donate to a charity.

Of course. I apologize for my statement.

No worries!

I'm just really excited that this kind of 'democratic patronage' is finally seeping into the video game world with a well-known and respected developer.

honestly, me too. It's amazing. I just hope if this catches on, other projects can be just as successful.

see thread on neogaf, think "oh yeah, wonder if they made the 400k already".

*Click*

HOLY FUCKING SHIT

Seems it is indeed becoming more than just a fundraiser for Double Fine, turning into an interwebs phenomenon. The amount of money is increasing at a stupid pace.

Even if we ignore those who paid extra - if *everyone* who's donated had paid just $15, they'd be on about 250k right now. And they needed, what, $300k to justify making it?

In other words, had a publisher snapped them up, ponied up $300k and then released the title for $15, there's at *least* enough audience out there to make $250k revenue, and it's early days yet.

I heard a rumor that was Notch. Could be wrong, though.

Excited to see this will be made. I'll probably donate so I can access the beta and feedback area.

From what I've read, Gabe donated the single $10k, whereas Notch donated two lots of $5k.

Edit: Donated, pledged; whatever. :p

Notch, in response to a tweet asking how much he donated:

@TheLupineOne @TimOfLegend 10k! Kickstarter didn't let me donate more, and it seems to be doing fine anyway. :D
