I feel your pain, brah. I want this more than anything, but I just don't see it happening unless THQ loses the lisense and some publisher out there remembers the good ol days of AKI games and brokers a deal.

Well I mean, nobody's saying it has to be a WWE game, right? They could just go the Fire Pro route and fill the game with lawsuit-avoiding lookalikes and throw in a super-deep CAW mode. I'm sure most people who actually know who AKI is would be satisfied enough with something like that.

It was a small miracle for Fire Pro R to release, evidenced by the fact that they haven't released another one since. Unless it's a WWE game, there ain't gon be no retail wrestling game coming out as long as the business' popularity keeps declining.

How about a DD game? Like, something on XBLA/PSN/Steam? I mean, if that AAA Lucha Libre game could get a retail release in the US, certainly an AKI game on DD services would be possible?

Heh, I actually forgot about the AAA game. Shocked it even got funded. I'm sure it didn't help the chances of any other dev aspiring to make a wrestling game.

As for a DD release, I'm not even sure. Everyone got all excited when they heard Microsoft went to Spike for a digital Fire Pro, then it turned out it was just some horrible looking avatar crap that hasn't been seen again in like a year. I just don't think most publishers are looking for a wrestling game right now, especially not a "sim."

This probably sounds a bit silly, but AJ Styles may be one of the most underrated guys in wrestling.

I'm watching his match with Daniels from Impact now, and I sometimes feel that because we've watched Styles for so long now, we kind of take for granted just how damn good this guy continues to be.

Word. He should be a star by now, but TNA's mishandled so many people since 2005.

I know Styles is probably TNA for life, but if he ever did go to WWE, I'd hope they wouldn't do something stupid like lock him up in FCW for years like they've done with Creed. I think enough people know who AJ Styles is that they could just bring him right up to the main roster.

Then again, this is WWE we're talking about here. If Vince didn't make you, you're nobody.

And plus, you have to be "reprogrammed". The fact Tyler Black and Creed have been stuck in developmental for almost two years is damn ridiculous.

Feb 9 Observer Radio: Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez
Giant episode of Wrestling Observer Radio tonight! Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer discuss everything you ever wanted to know -- at least what's been made public -- about the Nick Diaz/Carlos Condit rematch situation. And there's a LOT to discuss. Also, Smackdown tapings, John Cena vs. Rock finish discussion, Dave's memories of death of Art Barr, TNA PPV preview for Sunday, cage match history and more.

I've found I've enjoyed wrestling more when I stopped caring about what the dirt sheets say and 'think' will happen.

Though it is frustrating that TNA keeps having one off shows where they show what could be.

There was a rumor posted in EGM circa 2007 that said "THQ's WWF: No Mercy for the Nintendo 64 is coming back via the WiiWare service with completely updated rosters"

Obviously this never happened but it would have been amazing =/

It's all about the McGame-Face and how you wear it? sounds like the way Cena would PG insult HHH.

I remember this rumor, I always knew it was too good to be true.

The roster of a wrestling game is completely irrelevant to me. My friends make CAWs and then I play against them for the rest of eternity. I put hundreds of hours into No Mercy and outside of running through the story mode, I played against a real wrestler maybe twice.

It doesn't matter how terrible wrestling is right now. If it is fun, the game will sell.
