GAF Plays: Mass Effect series (unmarked spoilers)

if your in a ME3 media blackout stay away from IGN for a while :(
Lmao. I didn't believe you it could be that bad, so I went to IGN and instantly turned it off. :(

What? Really? Then what was the point of all the Facebook voting they held over the summer? Or maybe you heard bad info? Either way, I guess we'll find out tomorrow.

Also, Blue Ninja, I support you for the ME3 OT. I really don't want to see another "Shit Mountain".

Yea that's the default Femshep. I don't know what everyone else is talking about...

Those trailers are really awesome. Little to no story spoilers but game play mechanics of armor and weapons.

The Book Depository has sent out my copy of Art of Mass Effect Universe. Shit. I'll have to avoid opening it until the game arrives :/.

I forgot how much i hated those damn Mako fights, shield recharging takes an damn eternity, although it's a good time to take a smoke break. Finished a whole buch of sidequests and ready to head to virmire, think i'll finish it up this weekend and then on to ME2.
I think i'll skip the single player demo, don't want to get spoiled before i'm doing it with my real Shepard.

I just did a new sidequest in ME1 that i never did before(probably has something to do with my backstory). I had to go negotiate with some crazy dude, and he was there with all his little army waiting for me in a warehouse.

Then he asked me to call him "Lord Darius" and to basically kiss his ass all the way during the negotiation.

Shepard : "...Is this a joke?" *Kill them all*

fuckyeah.jpg

I did try to choose all the "kiss his ass" options just to see the dialogues and it was hilarious lol... when it was done and no one got killed, some text showed up where it said i had to go back to the normandy to wash all the bile in my mouth. :lol

IIRC you get that mission if you're a total paragon (or a total renegade, I don't remember). If you "kiss his ass", go back to Normandy, and report to Hackett he will praise your negotiation skills but at the same time will sound disappointed. It eventually turns out that the Alliance send you to do the dirty job, i.e. kill the guy, but didn't want to admit it at first.

I finished ME1 a while back, reaching level 60 and finally nabbing the Asari squadmate achievement. The gap between 59 and 60 is large, as people said, but as long as you get out of the Mako to kill everything, you could be maxed out before reaching Virmire.

Just about finished my final ME2 playthrough now. Entire squad is loyal, every upgrade, and every sidemission (bar Shadow Broker and Arrival) done. I have a meeting with Miranda, and then an appointment with the Collectors.

And hi EatChildren.

Yeah my shepard is a renegade and when i ended up kissing the guy's ass and let him live, Hackett was surprised and said i didnt do what im known for(which is, kill everyone that piss me off).

Ha.

Lost all my mass effect 2 saves (that were in turn imported from mass effect 1), when my seagate drive died last year... :(

I hope people will post their mass effect 2 saves like they did from 1.

During my last ME1 run, I was checking a wiki to make sure I'd done everything, and I suddenly discovered that mission, which I had never seen before. As has been said, you have to be a total renegade in order to be given it.

EDIT: I was wrong.

It's the only mission in the game that will only appear based on your alignment. There is no paragon equivalent.

Really? Because i went to another system from the same cluster, and there was a planet there with a base that i couldnt even enter. Then i checked the wiki and it mentionned that a prerequisite was 75% paragon.

Huh. Seems you're right. Guess I didn't notice that.

I can't, im at work and the wiki is blocked. I just know it was in the same cluster(but different system) and it was some boring looking planet with white/grey/brown textures.

Edit : damn stealthed edits lol

because ME3 is coming out, I decided to try and finish my "Evil female shepherd" play through as I already finished my "Main Good guy" play through.....

and that part with the little guy saying he is a "biotic god" is still funny as hell....especially when he looks up at my krogan, put's his hand up and says "Fear me"

I suppose you also sent him to his death by telling him he could kill the asari commando leader? :( His little biotic spell he throws at her is so cute.

There is a glitch on Noveria that if you talk to a dude you can increase your paragon and renegade both over 75% to do the missions, without leaving the conversation.

I got through my third ME1 run last night, clocked in at 31 hours in a week. So Good...

Immediately jumped right into ME2. I forgot how much of a drastic improvement the combat and game engine that was made from ME1 to ME2. Man it runs so smooth compared to ME1.

I am running as an Infiltrator on Insanity, and so far seems just right. It seems that disrupter ammo, tactical cloak, and Incinerate are going to be the best choices for my skills to focus on at first.

Cannot wait for ME3 to be here!

downloaded the 1 hour trial for ME2 on PSN so I can get the intro crap out of the way for when I rent 2 and I'm shocked at how bad of a port this is. The framerate is bad and when 3+ mechs got on the screen it was like 15 fps. The loading times were really long too and it froze on me once before I finally stopped. It felt like playing ME1 on 360 again.

Sold my 360 a few months back, so im starting from sqare 1 on ME2 on ps3. Im about 5 hours in, going with femshep this time and playing nice. Trying to do a perfect run (no one dies)

I made my femshep look like Olivia Wilde. Win.

Just finished my replay of ME2 with my original character, a Paragon Soldier. I forgot how exhilarating the Suicide Mission could be. I accidentally let Zaeed die, so my original perfect playthrough will be the one I import in ME3.

All I've got now is some random missions to do with my FemShep file (Renegade Adept), and then I'll be 100% ready for Mass Effect 3.

I just completed the Collector Ship, and like Horizon it was much easier than I had anticipated (I'm playing a Soldier on Insanity). I only died twice (once on the platforms, once against the Praetorian) because I was stupid and pressed A to get out of cover while being attacked. I jumped into me Insanity game as soon as I finished on Normal, and so far the increase in difficulty seems mostly offset just by knowing the weapons, scenarios, and enemies this time around. I'm also keeping up to date with upgrades, which is definitely helping.

I've got 8 loyalty missions left before I go to the IFF, then Legion's and the suicide mission, and am at around 24 hours so far. Not too bad.

Can anyone tell me what upgrades I need for the Normandy to survive the suicide mission? I've got the multi-core shielding, the cannons, and the upgraded armor.

For future reference. Just making sure I haven't missed anything.

So, how does Shepard die then?
If all your crew dies then you do as well.

Playing as soldier is so boring in ME2. I'm about to do the Reaper IFF mission and I'm contemplating restarting as infiltrator.
Use Gibbed to change your class if you're on PC. I switched from Sentinel to Infiltrator because having Tech Armor on all the time was ugly.

If you talk to Joker one of the dialogue options will let you know if the Normandy is fully upgraded or not.

Technically, you'll survive without any of them. It's your crew you have to worry about.

Be sure to talk to every one of your crew members about the "Ship Upgrades" in their dialogue options.
Here is the complete list of upgrades for the normandy.

Thanks, man. I did some googling myself before asking and I was brought to a more complicated upgrades page over at the ME wiki.

Edit: If I survive without any of them, then why bother upgrading? Is everyone more likely to die?

So, don't know if this has been discussed before, but do you think Cerberus did something else to Shepard when they revived him, like put some stuff in there that wasn't supposed to be and will come into play in 3 as part of the IM plans? Or was it just the stupidest and most convoluted way of letting you create a new character?

So, how does Shepard die then?
You pretty much have to have ALL of your crew die in order to not make it. Since the initial stuff requiring Normandy upgrades won't kill all of your crew, it's entirely possible for you to lose members on the approach and still make it through the rest fine.
Edit: If I survive without any of them, then why bother upgrading? Is everyone more likely to die?
Do you want to have your squad members die? Do you want to aim for the best ending possible? It's up to you.
You'll only lose part of your squad if you don't do the upgrades, but it's a chance you take.

Stupid and convoluted in ME2, possibly retro-justified in ME3.

A heads-up: the new series-wide artbook has some huge spoilers for ME3 that are now making the rounds, so watch where you step.

Trying to go through the series before ME3 comes out. I'm currently on Noveria in ME1.

Holy shit, either later games just spoiled me on the auto-save or Bioware just forgot to put in auto-saves for noveria. After a fairly comical moment of 3 Geth Destroyers sprinting in and killing me, the game boots me back to the garage before the Mako part. Mostly my fault for not saving manually, but god damn is this a buzz kill.

I'm getting extremely angry at the Matriarch encounter in the Snow Planet (forgot its exact name). Even when I equip my squad with anti-syntethic upgrades, I can't kill her. I can barely kill the Asari commando squad, but I can't even touch her. Help? :(

Lol. Matriarch and Asari Commandos are NOT synthetic. They are organic. The bossfight is not won by shooting her, she is invincible. Instead, wipe out her minions and hide from her. Each time you wipe out a wave of them, her 'power" will go down. Eventually it will hit 0 and you can damage her.

What's the difference between synthetic and organic? I know The Geth are synthetic, is it because they're humanoid robots or something?

Seems like the encounter was bugged for me. I killed the first wave of female commandos, so her health dropped to half. A cutscene played, another wave appeared, which I also killed, leaving only her at half health. No one else spawned.
