Being a rich popstar doesn't seem to be such a great thing.

Perhaps it is hard to come down back to earth after massive popularity fades and you are just an elder from the previous music generation?

I figure that the celebrity world isn't actually very nurturing and has nothing to do with building a real life framework for people. Once the fame is gone, so are all the hollywood business friends.

If people don't stay grounded during their rise to fame and make sure to maintain a really-real life behind the glamour... well, we have seen enough evidence that the fall to earth can be literally fatal.

All the horrible habits like drug use and alcohol abuse seem particularly easy to fall into when a person is surrounded by a fake culture with no authenticity. Nobody keeps it real, nobody talks about the rest of your life, just the next gig and the next deal. The "fake it till you make it" mentality is yet another strike against celebs. Everyone around you, is pulling that shit, acting like they have it more together than they probably do.

I suppose all these are the reasons why the celebrity world has a reputation for being toxic.

Please don't come in and shit in this thread with your who cares, why even view the thread or post in it? Keep your negativity to yourself and don't post anything.

RIP Houston

And you keep talking about how much you don't care about said news, so again why the fuck are you and your kind in here?

But my fave lost one of her inspirations today so I will take a shot tonight for Whitney Houston.

You know who one of the ones that kept all their money and didn't spend it like a fool was? Vanilla Ice. Who'd a thunk it?

CNN said Jennifer Hudson will sing tomorrow in a Whitney Houston tribute.
Hopefully she can bring Whitney back from the dead with those God awful screams.

Whitney deserves someone much better than J Hud.

Grammy putting a last minute tribute is not cool...

I agree.

Whitney deserves a real tribute, not a song by J Hud. I mean, I have nothing against her, but let's not just do a J Hud Whitney tribute.

Shit, do a whole special on her.

It's typical entertainment industry BS.

A moment of prolonged silence during the Grammys would be more tasteful rather than what amounts to other celebs using her death as an opportunity to show off.

She was good singer. The world lost a great voice. I wasn't really into her type of music but god damn at some of the rude bullshit in here.

Seriously. I know this is NeoGaf and all...but for those of you that don't care, why are you in this thread?

If you're wondering why Reznor gets a pass and aeiko got creamed...it's all in the approach. I might disagree with their sentiments, but at least one wasn't a total asshole about it.

Anyways. Sad, but not unexpected. An incredible body of work that will live on long after the TMZ-style horseshit fades into the background. I'll miss what she brought to the table, and hope that her family can find some peace in a difficult time.

If I see anyone but her real contemporaries (ie. no Christina horning in on the action) performing at the funeral, I may just have an aneurysm.

Wrong, not expected. Death wasn't certain.

Truly sad news. I thought she was older than 48, and I grew up on her music.

I think moreso with musicians than actors, their deaths affect us so hard because music is such a universal language. Something out it gets deep down into our very beings, so when someone who is a master of that craft is taken from us, it has such a powerful impact on our emotions.

I had thought that Whitney was clean of the drugs, so it's possible that her death is related to something else, but I wouldn't be surprised if she had a relapse. It happens. Drugs aren't an easy habit to kick, and we can't apparently all be like Robert Downey Jr., who is seemingly immune to the negative affects of drugs (I kid, of course).

I'm sad that we won't get to have any new music from Whitney, but fortunately, she left a legacy of amazing songs that will last for ages.

I don't think it's a requirement of empathy to actually have to know the person. No, I didn't know any of the celebrities who have passed away recently on a personal level, but I can certainly empathize with my heart to the family and friends of that person (celebrity status doesn't add anything to the level of my empathy).

Some of the comments I've read in this thread are really troubling, as it really seems like we've cultivated a culture of self absorbed, apathetic, sociopaths. Is empathy going to be completely bred out of us in a few generations? I certainly hope not.

I suspect that many of them were never spanked as children.

Unfortunately. Such a bleh band with a bleh singer/songwriter that got way more attention than deserved.

Not a huge fan of Nirvana and was more into Alice In Chains which I think is a much better band but whether deserved or not they are generally regarded as one of if not thee most influential band/artist of the 90s.

It really is crazy aging and seeing such influential people pass. Although tragic, it is quite nice having so many people celebrate her in the wake of her death.

RIP
