It's like putting a plastic cover on your couch. Cool, the couch is nice, but what are you saving it for? So it's perfect for the next guy?

Of all the devices ive had I only scratched one, a psp go, and I sold it for $15 less than the rest of the Go's on ebay at that time. So even in that case I don't regret not using a cover in the slightest.

It's plastic. Purportedly a very scratch resistant plastic, but plastic nevertheless. Still, if it's scratch resistant enough I may just forego it, especially with the large surface area.

No, it'll be just like smartphones, so it will always need to stream the data for the maps.

Bah, it would totally be possible to put it in one download. Its like its programmed so that you NEED to use 3G then -.-

But the GPS navigational computers that cars use also have the map downloaded/installed before and only use GPS. So strange that this wouldnt work for Vita apps.

I'm not interested in testing how scratch resistant it is, but the Vita screen seems sturdy enough. After wiping the fingerprints off of mine it looks fine, so I think as long as you keep it in a case and aren't crazy with it you'll be fine without a screen protector.

I was really hoping it'd be gorilla glass too, the Kindle Fire's $50 less and uses it, and that's sold at a slight loss as well I believe! Still, I've seen it pointed out it may be because plastic doesn't exactly SHATTER like glass, so in that regard the Vita could be more durable anyway.

... Wish there were protectors for the back though, going by the accounts that it can be scratched easily. Then again it's not as if you see tons of scratch protectors for iPods/older iPhones with their easy as hell to scratch chrome backs.

Two videos comparing the Vita and PSP screens from multiple angles: 1 & 2. Dat OLED man.

That is crazy. I hadn't quite realised how much better the OLED is, even having played it. I am looking forward to starting Monster Hunter and other PSP games even more now.

Yeah, but they are large dedicated files with all the maps already downloaded. For example, on my iPhone, the map app is only probably a few mbs and all the map data is streamed to it. I also have a paid for dedicated GPS app called co-pilot which doesn't need data to stream, but the file is about 2GB. Since I've not heard anyone mention a large file for the Vita map app (and it uses google maps and is free) its safe to assume it's streaming only.

It kinda sucks it doesn't have gorilla glass, I kinda took it for granted and figured it would. But I've never been much of a screen protector guy anyways. I'm pretty damn careful with my stuff. I've had a PSPgo since the day it came out, no screen protector, zero scratches.

That's my plan, but I'm undecided on which case to get. There are so many to choose from.

Yeah, that seems logical, thanks for clearing that up. Still weird that you wouldnt even get the option to do so. I would mind having a dedicated memcard only for a map/GPS usage for example. But if that isnt possible anyway, I'll just go with the Wifi bundle instead (In Germany we have the same bundle you get for 3G also for Wifi).

One thing to bear in mind though, is that when the PS suite is up and running it apparently will also be used for apps as well as games. It's quite possible somebody could make a GPS app for it.

If they want more people to buy the 3G version and bring it around with them, it would be smart for them to maybe put addons for the maps app on the store where you can download maps for different states so you have it on the memory card at all times.

I'm using a cloth Parappa pouch I bought way back for my first model PSP, which works just fine, though I don't travel with handhelds much. If you were throwing it in a bag or luggage you'd probably want something more solid.

Oh, so what I am looking for is POSSIBLE, just not announced? Might get me to get 3G again. Argh.

Yea, mine will be traveling in my backpack with heavy textbooks a lot, so I'm looking at some of the harder cases.

Any videos of gta vcs and Crush running on the Vita? Am going to buy them when I get my vita.

just made some pics for my site (IN-GAME PICS via PS+Start buttons aren't possibile with the PSP Emulator)

Seeing that GTA manual: Is that the same one the PSP had? Does the Vita have new manuals that displace the PSP ones? Because some of those WERE nice looking but looked like they were at too low a resolution, so seeing this on Vita (even if it's just with a good filter slapped on) would be great.

EDIT: Then again, showing the PSP 1000 there does seem to indicate that's whatever was on the PSP DL version to begin with.

Thanks mate, how well does it control?
GTA on PSP require L1+Left Stick to rotate the camera, but because you can't map the new stick with more than 1 buttons you can't use the second stick (alone) to rotate the camera

But, i found a tricky way to use it to rotate the camera.

On the PSP you have to press L1+Left Stick, well, if you set the RIGHT stick to work as a Left stick, just press L1+Right Stick and the camera will rotate. Not like a PS3 controller, but at least you use 2 sticks! xD

Looks Like I went from not at launch to getting one on preorder. Sold a couple older devices and order hot shots, a hori case, 16GB card and a vita. Now the wait :(

yea, I got the email and they already charged me. It's gonna be so nice to have a memory card for something I won't have for another 10 days ^_^

I'm pretty sure people were claiming it's just plastic earlier in the thread. If it is indeed Gorilla Glass then there's no way I'm using a screen protector.

TheVerge.com Japanese Vita review specifically states it's plastic, not glass. I don't think they'd say it unless they knew what they were talking about.

I still dont understand how people can claim that near functionality is only available for 3g. If You can tether your vita to the phone its essentially having wifi everywhere. Near as I understand is a vita core functionality that should be usable with a wifi system. This is really the only thing I care about and would like to keep just a single data plan active at a time. The only feature I probably need some explanation on is the GPS.

near work with wi-fi only ps vita too.

the only difference is that isn't accurate as the 3G version that use GPS.

Out of my excitement for the upcoming Vita launch, I made a website for Vita wallpapers. Part of it is me wanting to give people a good site for getting wallpapers and the other part is seeing how quickly and for how long I can rank in the searches. I spent a year doing website consulting (SEO, content, etc.), so this is fun for me. :3

I just got it up and going today, but there is a submission form and a few wallpapers already up. A lot of them are from the Spanish link posted earlier, and I am also in the process of making my own. I thought it might be something useful to GAF and the wallpaper thread (if it gets made). It's ad-free and not disgusting.

http://vita-wallpapers.com/

Please feel free to give me any feedback on the site, and I will do my best to improve it.

Are you going to add all the wallpapers over from that other site? Would just be nice to have them in one spot :)

I have a wifi only Vita and near works for me.

Man, I keep forgetting about all the PSN games available at launch. Super Stardust and Escape Plan are more exciting to me as some of the better exclusive retail games (Lumines, Army Corps).

This is a great launch, and there are good games coming through the summer. Hopefully Sony has got some unknown heavy
3rd party?
hitters to show at E3.

If we don't have gameplay footage of Call of Duty after E3, that's a problem. I'm counting on this game to establish Vita in North America. If Sony/Activision get this right, it could even make a dent in Microsoft's identification with this series.
