Well he's definitely wrong.

Hmm...
I don't know what's being done different. I have my Vita and I can definitely vouch for a 4ish hour battery life. Maybe because I'm not using the touch screen too much? Would touch screen drain batteries faster?

I've heard multiple reports saying more in the 4-5 hour range. More people have said that than 3 hours, which I've only heard from Engadget, Gizmodo and Giant Bomb. Who knows.

Since when has 7 not been a good score?

By definition on a 10 point scale it is two points better than average and 3 points less than perfect.

To suggest 7 isn't a good score is utterly stupid, objectively speaking.

This threads a quagmire of fucktardedness, let it slide.

Haters gonna hate. (Or make under the table digs.)

Doesn't everything but the iPad have basically terrible battery life while playing games? I'd classify my ipod touch's battery as atrocious. I doubt the iphone is any better and I don't even play games on my android phone and think it has a terrible battery

I cannot wait until battery technology improves (or improves faster then other mobile tech increases energy consumption)

Anyway its nice that PSP games last longer then Vita games, I didn't think it would work like that

this stream is making me want to order a vita more and more.

must resist

Yep, got kinda bummed when I realized that I might be gimped out of certain downloadable games with my UK account. Anyone know if they're changing this for the Vita?

IGN is lying if they claim that for PS Vita games. Engadget did battery tests for all kinds of scenarios. The default brightness with wifi on playing Vita games = 3 hours maximum. Brightness all the way down nets you an hour more. Brightness all the way down, wifi off, audio off, gets you 4 and a half hours. PSP games on low settings nets you 5 hours. Videos upwards of 5-6 hours. Music 9 hours.

This is anecdotal of course, but my Vita survived an entire 5 hour flight to Las Vegas with ~70% brightness, and probably had another 15-30 mins of juice left (battery indicator seemed low but the warning never came up). Played WipEout for about 4 hours and Stardust for one. No Wifi of course, but that "brightness all the way down gets you 4 and a half" number seems a bit off.
On the way back the flight was 4 hours instead of 5 (wtf?) so I couldn't test it for that long again, but yeah.. that's my experience.

So the question is: when will it have that killer app? Sony pushed really hard to have this mega launch line-up, but if that doesn't pan out, what do they have planned in the future?

With the 3DS, the launch lineup was 'meh' at best, but at least people KNEW there'd be plenty of great stuff coming. Do Vita owners have that same confidence?

My local GameStop manager said Sony's target is to have 80 (new) Vita games this year alone. If true, we'll see if the line up is solid.

Truth to be told, a lot of us also have a home console to play, so even if they come up with that many mobile games, plus the highly rated PSP titles I ignored so far, there are already far too many games for me personally.

On top of that, I can see myself using Vita for portable media playback to save my iPhone 4S battery. So I do foresee using the damn thing quite heavily. I am seriously considering a grip-based battery pack for Vita.

twentytwo22's battery test

Battery Test:

3G/Wifi Model
Mobile Data (3G) ON (but is probably over-riden by...
Wifi ON (connected to home network) -- this means I was getting notifications/etc the whole time, all on
Bluetooth OFF
Brightness MAX (note: Brightness in OS MAX, caps in-game at about 80% [battery saving measure -- even 80% brightness is really bright...])
Near Auto-Updating ON
Headphones, volume at 50%

Time was spent: Play UMvC3 from Game Card (including about 30 minutes of Online play)
Occasionally flipping to Web Browser for quick look-ups, as well as Trophies app to check trophies (game kept running in the background, obviously)

Full to Death: 4:29
Warning notice came on at 4:11

Oh, you'll know you're online when the huge ass Friends notifications start popping up.

Yeah, that's what I'm seeing in the GB stream. He was in the menus, it shows him connected, but then he gets a massive list of messages about friends etc when he starts up a game. I'd rather get my friend notifications etc in the menus and not in a game.

Man, one consistent comment across most reviews is how you never really know if you're connected online or not. Sony needs to fix that.

It doesn't seem to be any harder to tell if I'm online or not than on the PS3...
When a game turns off the network stuff, it has like a big grey pop up to tell you so.

Expect at least 4 hours of battery. Maybe more depending on the type of game (PSP, Vita etc).

Also there will be a Nyko battery addon that supposedly increases it to 15 hours or something ridiculous. I don't think the official portable charger has been released yet so no idea how good that is.

I hope that adapter comes out before my flight next month.

3 times the standard battery life is their claim. That's the one I'm looking at.

Does PSP emulator (+ games) consume more or less battery ?

Im wondering something if my brother has a sub account off my master account can we share psn games like we can with a psp or is the vita different?

Do all games turn off wi-fi when you play them?

Just the single player games that have no use for the network.

Pretty sure it's less. I played MHP3rd over Wifi for 4 hours 30 minutes before the battery was at red. It was online constantly so I was impressed.

15? Holy shit. I hope that's true.

Whoa, that would seem essential, especially as I'm intending to actually use the Vita on the move.

Well, I'm itching to put in my preorder now. I've seen some decent deals that include Rayman (which I played but never bought on PS3). With that, a 16 GB card and Uncharted I should be set for a while.

Eventually I will get it for Gravity Rush, Dragon's Crown and DJ Max so I might as well get it soon.

About 4 hours battery time is good for me. I rarely play games more than 2 hours straight. I don't know why people are bugging out, try playing graphically intense games on your smartphone and see if you get that much battery life.

To put the reviews in perspective, if you look back at all the consoles at launch on metacritic, 7s and 8s seems to be pretty standard for launch titles. In fact, the Vita looks to be averaging probably a bit higher than the rest, and a lot better than the 3DS.

If you were expecting lots of 9s or even 10s, you were always going to be disappointed.

Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7

Yup.

I'm not even sure what people think are Sony's killer apps. Killzone? Gran Turismo? Uncharted is up there with those titles. I think an Uncharted sequel that has multiple locations would be considered a killer app.

For me MLB 12 and Uncharted are killer apps. *shrugs*

Not enough doom and gloom in your post.

Accurate though.

Yeah, as someone who travels a lot, and takes long flights, I'm interested in the add-on charger as well.

Are they domestic flights? Last few international flights I've taken there has been a USB plug on the back of the seats in from of you (where you watch the moves and such). I tested it with my PSP Slim and it supplied power for me. You know the Vita comes with a USB lead eh?

Just get the highly rated Vita games you like, and then get the highly rated PSP ones too. Those PSP games are more "proven".

No it's not. I was watching his thumbs to see if it was the stream, and it was the stream stuttering, not the game.

Ah, glad that's not the case. I still think an Uncharted game on a handheld seems like an odd fit.

I thought they had learnt their lesson with the motion stuff!

Yeah, that's a bonus. But I have to note the usb ports have never worked for on an international flight for me! Air Canada, BA, Iberia are my main carriers.

Flights and home are where I'll use the Vita most based on my PSP usage.
