I say I'm not wowed by the screen and get a lecture on the software library, embarrassing.

I've had my SAMOLED phone for a year and a half already so I know what you mean. I was more wowed by the lightness of the device. It's about twice the weight of my phone but it doesn't feel that way.

The other day, I saw my sisters PSP-1000 sitting there. I gave it to her when I upgraded to the PSP-2000. I picked it up and was actually kinda shocked. I forgot how sturdy and built that thing felt. The 2000 has a better screen, i think, and is smaller but I do miss that sturdier feel.

Is the Vita closer in build quality to the PSP 1000 or the PSP 2000?

It is nowhere near as heavy as the PSP 1000. It does have a very premium feel to it though.

So is the screen as good? I have a samoled phone as well, love the clarity and brightness in it so it would be awesome if the vita was comparable

Finally put in my order. I'm ready.

The benefit of the Vita screen will show itself to you in the dark, however, as OLED produces an infinitely superior black level to any LCD. A dark image on an iPhone will appear slightly gray in the darker areas while an OLED will display a perfect (near perfect, anyways) black.

A lot of OLED screens used in phones use a Pentile matrix as well while the Vita does not so users of such phones should also see an improvement in clarity. It IS, however, a massive step up from the dated 3DS screens.
Not just black levels, I feel like for gaming the perfect response times are an even more important factor. I know I keep mentioning this every time the screen is discussed, but I believe it's a huge advantage for OLED when it comes to gaming, and one that isn't as well known (and valued) as it should be.

For gaming, the iphone screen and any other LCD just isn't remotely as well-suited as OLED. (well, OLED is pretty much better at everything except pixel density, it's just even further ahead when it comes to gaming :P)

The PSP is built like a rock. It's used for holding tech manual and training material in the military. I read that during evaluation, a Sony guy flung his PSP at the wall, and it held up. ^_^

That's a good way of thinking about it.

Light, but not cheap at all. It feels "appropriately light", not shitty like the SIXAXIS felt. Take that for what it's worth

Yeah, no more screen latency/blur issues like were problematic at times on the PSP. That's a big plus.

Eh the iPhone screen has already been totally dwarfed by OLED several years ago.

Samsung and Sony are producing screens for phones that destroy Retina tech.
I don't see your point at all. I didn't say the iPhone screen was unsurpassed.

Is this thread really this childish that anything that isn't sucking off the PSV is irrationally deconstructed? Maybe I'll just avoid it for a few months till the rational people surface.

Vita is the last stand for gaming handheld. You surprised?

The screen looks better to me. I don't know how much better or worse it is compared to things like SAMOLED+ though.

Screw you man, just screw you!

In his defense, he didnt mention the Vita at all in the post you quoted and that other guy apologized.

I don't know why everyone is complaining about the 3G marketing push in those ads.

The 3G talk appeals to the 90% of those who are technologically illiterate, but understand that '3G' denotes online connectivity anywhere, all the time... which has never been achieved by any gaming dedicated console ever. Who cares if it' s only real capability is to connect to leaderboards and other passive functionality?

Those who are interested in having their gaming console function with 4G connectivity will be playing games on their smartphones anyway.

There are a few issues:

(1) Selling 3G gaming explicitly alienate the other WiFi-only users. They should have pitched something like "Anywhere gaming". By doing so, they will also be compatible with 4G gaming via MiFi, and regular WiFi Hotspot gaming.

(2) Selling 3G gaming is selling a low level hardware feature. It is the most primitive form (least effective) of marketing. It doesn't tell the end users the benefits of "anywhere gaming". Leaderboard anywhere is an end user concept, but it still doesn't convey the value or fun of leaderboard too. They need to convey that kind of feeling/emotion in the ad.

It's between this and Virtua Tennis for me.

Listen to Destructoid:

The way I see it, everyone already loves Lumines, so this review serves no one, especially when you consider that Electronic Symphony is the best one yet with its gorgeous high-resolution visuals, rocking soundtrack, new gameplay mechanics, and awesome connectivity features. No Vita should be sold without a copy of this game.

Just cancelled Wipeout and got Rayman Origins instead, good choice? Validate my decision!

Wipeout loadtimes are horrible, and Rayman looks supersweet on Vita. If you never played Rayman, validated.

I was more wowed by my iPhone 4 screen then the OLED Vita screen, actually came away slightly disappointed after reading all the hype
I don't know, the only thing the iPhone screen has going for it is resolution, which wouldn't really help gaming at all.

OLED, on the other hand, has infinitely better contrast and response times. Especially the latter is very important for games.

I think the iPhone screen is much nicer personally. I too had no 'wow' moment seeing the PSV. It's not even glass.
Yeah, I guess I didn't really have a wow moment in comparison to the screen of my iPhone 4S either... but when I turned on my PSP and 3DS for comparison, that's when the wow kicked in.

If you have a MiFi device, wouldn't you get a 4G connection (which is still mostly useless)?

Why is a 4G connection still "mostly useless?"

I have a 4G WiFi hotspot, which is why I'm not getting a 3G version of the Vita, and I find it fantastic for when I need mobile Internet. I've played games on it on several different devices, and it even streams movies and television shows from Netflix and Hulu just fine.

I'm jealous anytime I see somebody with a Galaxy phone. Those screens are amazing. If the Vita's screen is comparable, I will be one happy camper.

I'll probably go physical route with FIFA since those have much better resale value down the line and digital for Rayman origins or virtue tennis, decisions decisions mmmm

I'm not wowed by the iPhone 4S or Vita screen. They all work as expected: No &%*$(&%$* ghosting, vivid colors, high DPI, bright, and such.

I need to be wowed by the game visuals and gameplay though. Those should be the focus.

EDIT:
I'm jealous anytime I see somebody with a Galaxy phone. Those screens are amazing. If the Vita's screen is comparable, I will be one happy camper.

Beyond a certain level, it's good enough. Personally, I would also give more weight to scratch-proof and anti-glare. In the scratch-proof department, the iPhone 4* screens are indeed worthy.

I pre ordered the feb bundle with futureshop and my games were shipped yesterday but no updates on my future shop order, will I get this tomorrow or is it going to be late never pre ordered with future shop before...

I have a Galaxy S2 and I hate looking at my monitors now.

Some Gaf'ers that own both Vita and an S2 said that the screens are very comparable, so we should be in for a treat.

Fuck. I've told myself not at $39.99 but the reviews are getting me hyped.

Going digitally for 35$ to play it in short bursts between another game seems to be the better idea anyway. And I definitely oppose the idea of 35$ being a ripoff for this game. It has a large amount of content, unlockables, replay value, well integrated community features and awesome presentation.

If that doesnt qualify for 35$ then I dont quite know what does.

TBH these days isnt it difficult to get wowed by display tech? As long as it compares favourably to good smartphones thats a win really.

Yeah. I'm going to definitely think about it after these reviews.

The thing that wows me about display tech right now is how utterly shitty basically all TVs, PC monitors and laptop displays (especially those) are compared to the Vita or high-end smartphones.

Thanks! Yeah I've played a minute of rayman on PS3, rented it, and loved it. Been dying to get more time with it. Going to look sweet on that OLED.

your eyes are broken, you should go get them checked out ASAP

The 4S has higher DPI and brightness. It's quite easy to tell at first glance. But the larger Vita screen is close. I could read the small words on it just fine. I wouldn't be bothered about the differences. Gorilla Glass is nice though.

I was more wow'ed by the first PSP Sharp screen years ago. It was rare to have such a big and colorful screen at that price.

The last time I was wowed by a display tech was the 3D visual from HMZ-T1. The effect was stunning (The way 3D *should* be presented) even though the harness took time to get used to in the demo room.

My next display tech wow moment will probably be the transparent, flexible (roll-up, foldable) color screens.

Fuck. I've told myself not at $39.99 but the reviews are getting me hyped. I love live leader boards.

Yeah, I was trying to stay on the fence but the reviews are pushing me over. If Ubisoft somehow decides to be pro-consumer for once and sells on PSN at the discounted price, I'll buy it when it goes up.
