The Giant Bomb Quick Look Thread 2

I want to avoid Sony fanboys so I'll just post it in here that everything in the Vita QL of Uncharted Jeff did looked terribly mediocre, ranging to bad (the gesture stuff on screen to cut/climb) and it seems a shame to me that they ruined a chance to go back to basics and tell an UC1-esque story with all of that gimmicky shit.

I mean, it's one less temptation to get the system which is good, but having an underwhelming Uncharted game is never nice. Shame.

So like. Some stuff came out, but I'm not seeing a lot of upcoming quick looks here. Kinda disappointing. Specifically, I want to see Ultimate Fighter Jeff and Game Face Davis tennis

The comment that made me realize I would get likely get bored with GA was that it lacks the massive, impressive setpieces from the console games.

When I look back on Uncharted 2, it's the crazy stuff like the collapsing building and the train ride that I remember fondly. I don't remember much about the stuff in between. With those big moments gone, the Uncharted games lose a lot of their appeal to me. Neither the shooting or the traversal is interesting enough on their own to get excited about.

The Vita stuff is up.

Kind of agree.

I found that hard to watch.

Also, it seems nobody at Giant Bomb even came close to beating the Xbox game.
If you watch their TNTs, this would be no surprise.

Jeff was also playing Shinobido wrong, but not really his fault since the original game, which this looks more like a semi-remake than a sequel, never came out in the US. The best way to kill guys is actually run up from behind. There's also a death from above stealth kill, but that one is tricky to pull off.

This will be fun. I'm Marta. This will be fun. I'm Marta. I'm a caddy. I'm a caddy

THIS WILL BE-- THIS WILL BE-- THIS WILL BE--

This will be.... I - I - I - I - I - I - I - I - I - I - I - I - I - I - I - I - I - I -

LET'S PLAY!!

God, Jeff was firing on all cylinders on the Vita stuff.

Patrick: "If you told me this was a PSP game, I'd believe you."
Jeff: "If you told me this was an iPhone game, I would believe you."
Patrick: "Jeff, it IS an iPhone game."
Jeff: "Ooaaah...I believe you."

:D

If you want a UC1-like game I think you'll like GA. Jeff and the rest of the GB crew don't seem like big fans of the original Uncharted so their disappointment over GA has a lot to do with it not following the UC2/3 formula.

It's all the touch bollocks that makes UC look crap to me. Rubbing dirt off a shovel? This is a franchise aimed at adult males, none of whom will find that compelling, or at the very least, more will be irritated by it than would be pleased by it.

It's the same thing they did with PS3's waggle at the start, but it's like they forgot how stupid it was. If they'd have done all that stuff as separate mini games, that's fine, but putting them in the campaign is really lame. It'd be less stupid if Sony didn't also have two launch games, specifically for showing off all the interface stuff on the system. I don't know why it's polluting other games.

Yeah, the touch stuff in Uncharted looked like a really, really cynical attempt to appeal to people who don't play many games outside of their phones.

They had a Twisted Metal quick look scheduled to upload at 8am this morning, but it's been two hours past that and still nothing :(
Maybe they weren't able to get it done.

It reminds me most of early Wii games, where people were throwing in motion stuff for no good reason just because they could.

The touch gimmicks alone are enough to convince me I won't like it.

Twisted metal looks awful to be honest I don't understand how anyone outside of platform fanboys could be excited for it /shrug.

Yeah, that looks like they botched it there. I'll still buy it because I love Uncharted (first one is my favorite) and the Bend games I played on the PSP were also among my favorites on the system. Some people even argue they made the best Resistance game
but those people are wrong :p
.

I think the lesson to be learned here is not "don't use touch controls in my traditional game" like a lot of reviews are saying, but instead they should use it intelligently. Stuff like swiping the screen instead of pressing a button is completely worthless, but touch controls could have made certain aspects of the game better. For a game with puzzles like Uncharted it almost seems like a no-brainer to do it right.

Chinatown Wars on DS is a great example; the touch mini games are fun and they never pop up unexpectedly. They take advantage of the system to enhance the game instead of feeling like they're getting in the way.

It looks pretty fun. I was kind of shocked to find out that the game was a full retail game rather than a PSN game.

Watching that made me want to go play Twisted Metal 2 again.

You don't understand why someone might want to drive around in a heavily armed car? Maybe with a flamethrower on it? Have you ever been stuck in rush hour traffic?

Ryan should have used more filters too. You can search for only rooms in game room or just non-ranked. Gets rid of all the games you don't want.

He's also just not very good. He used the shotgun from an impossible distance like 5 times (despite knowing it's really good close up), didn't charge any of the chargeable weapons, didn't rear-fire any missiles while he was being chased, didn't use any shields or freezes, didn't use any alt-specials, didn't jump... lol

I like that Jeff never copped to not wanting to watch two men beat each other to death, just that a line should probably be drawn somewhere.

Jeff not realizing that he wasn't controlling either fighter was pretty funny.

"Yes, that was intentional."
Honestly, that just showed how loose/bad the controls are. Especially during that ground grappling stuff, you never really feel in control, you literally have to wrestle with your controls. That might be intended to represent the struggle with the other fighter, but it just doesn't make for very compelling gameplay, imo. I don't blame Jeff for not really noticing. I thought these aren't very good fighting games or sports games once it gets to the ground.

I also agree, at least partly, with Vinny. Kicking or punching someone when he's on the ground just ain't right. I don't think the grappling stuff is particularly interesting, either. K1/Kickboxing/Boxing are more appealing to me as far as competitive fighting goes.
