The Giant Bomb Quick Look Thread 2

Considering how dismissive they've been of 3DS games, just look at RE:R which is a great game, I don't expect much from their Vita previews/reviews.

I would be happy to be proven wrong, but my prediction of 99% of their Vita coverage will be: "It's a cool device by why wouldn't I just do this stuff on my TV?"

The other 1% is them saying "Sound Shapes is rad, but I wish I could play it on a surround sound setup!"

I don't fault them for being fans of the home console experience, I just wish it didn't come across so much in their portable system coverage. Although it seems the 3DS has piqued their interest lately so who knows.

I don't know how you can say they have been dismissive of the 3DS. There have been what, 2-3 quick looks of Eshop games in the last couple of weeks, all which they seemed to really enjoy

did they ever find the psp video out cables?

I guess spending the $13 for a new one was probably a bit much just for a quick look of corpse party.

they could have also recorded jeff playing lumines for a subscriber video to make there money back.

Some kind of farewell psp video might be a decent idea.

I never got that. It made his top 10, but, unless I'm remembering it wrong, they never even mentioned it in their GOTY deliberation podcast.

Maybe because none of them thought it was GOTY potential?

The game is fun, but I thought it was pretty mediocre compared to most other Mario games, handheld or not.

They discussed every other game on the podcast that was on one of their lists. Just seemed weird that the one handheld game on their lists just happened to be the one they never even discussed.

Wow, Evochron actually has seamless space -> planet transitions.

The game doesn't look super interesting or great from the QL, but fuck me if that wasn't impressive and I'll buy it just to support someone actually doing it.

Like Vinny said, "This is something I've been wanting in videogames for two decades".

Going into the planet has to be one of the coolest moments in game history. Quite mind-blowing. Is this revolutionary? Have other space sims ever tried this seamless transition?

250mb. Two Hundred and Fifty Megabytes. Yeah.

Here is a fun question: Who is least dismissive of handheld gaming? I'd have to guess Ryan.

Kessler, but he's not there atm. Keep in mind, they've seemed to be sharply ambivilant about the new handhelds' success until it's proven.

Super Stardust seems pretty good. Sounds like you have to make more split second weapon changes which is cool. I thought the mini-games would be an awesome feature for extending the life of the game but he made them sound like so-so diversions, they could serve as decent ways to test out the different control inputs of the Vita though.

I didn't realize Uncharted GA made you use the touch screen so much. 3 stars seems fair.
Yeah, it's bullshit really. I remember all the GAFfers shouting down those complaints as "it's all optional", is it fuck. It's the same crap Sony pulled when every PS3 game had bullshit waggle in it.

Reading how shoehorned the vita hardware stuff is into uncharted confirms every fear I had about them jamming in dual touch surfaces and tilt. Would rather have no tilt/no touch and a reasonable amount of on board storage instead of price gouging on the memory cards.

I believe they did find hardware for it; likely development recording kits. I wouldn't think they would QL Corpse Party anyways unfortunately.

It'll just be like the initial run of DS games where everything used all the features. Hopefully Vita developers will will calm down on utilizing all that stuff after this initial batch of games.

Ryan seems to like handheld games a fair amount - though the kinds that you can play in small chunks - Kirby Mass Attack, Pushmo etc. Otherwise "I'd rather play this on a TV"

Giant Bomb live Quick Look of the Vita in an hour.

Too bad I can only catch about 20 minutes of it before class.

Hopefully Lumines is one of the Vita games they have lined up. I pretty much have it pre-ordered on blind faith, but I know that a good chunk of them like Lumines so I am interested to see what they think of it before I put down money for it.

that thing where you can't tell what game is currently inserted is stupid as hell.

Mentioned in the other thread, but just so people know in here

Hmm... Uncharted's framerate looks really bad. :(

I hope that's just a by product of being shot off camera.

Stardust was first. I don't think they'll do Escape Plan. Isn't it out next week only via download?
Something like that, I wasn't sure I cared about it, but it's really cheap, and I knew I'd buy SSD anyway, so cool, not missed anything important.

Wipeout seems like a really rushed product.
