The Giant Bomb Quick Look Thread 2

If you don't really have any idea what they're doing/attempting to do on the ground, of course you'll probably be bored. MMA is way safer than boxing, but still has to deal with its no holds barred history.

Honestly, that just showed how loose/bad the controls are. Especially during that ground grappling stuff, you never really feel in control, you literally have to wrestle with your controls. That might be intended to represent the struggle with the other fighter, but it just doesn't make for very compelling gameplay, imo. I don't blame Jeff for not really noticing. I thought these aren't very good fighting games or sports games once it gets to the ground.

I also agree, at least partly, with Vinny. Kicking or punching someone when he's on the ground just ain't right. I don't think the grappling stuff is particularly interesting, either. K1/Kickboxing/Boxing are more appealing to me as far as competitive fighting goes.

Playing the third one now and have never felt out of control in this or the previous 2 installments. Haven't tried amateur controls though.

This'll be interesting, I hated the DS game despite the incredible love people seem to have from it. Elite Beat Agents is massively superior.

Rhythm ______ games are very simple. Elite Beat Agents is... more involved.
sorry

Did you like the GBA games?

Yeah, it's particularly disappointing because I like the game as a pure striking game. The ground stuff is just ugh.

I always found elite beat to be massively flawed. All the cool shit is on the top screen... but all the gameplay is on the bottom screen!

Still a fun game though

I'd suggest the "pro controls".

Being able to feint/transition/block is all much better from that control scheme imo.

Sure sometimes you fight someone that's better on the ground but that doesn't mean you are out of control you just need to be better at reversals and staying in safe positions.

oh god rhythm heaven looks FUCKING AMAZING

Yeah. I bought Rhythm Paradise for the DS because of what I saw in the Happy Hour and the Quick Look makes me want to buy the Wii game as well. Rhythm Paradise is really fun, but I don't really enjoy the stylus controls very much. The Samurai minigame on the Wii version looked so awesome.

That quick look just sold me on Rhythem Heaven, hard!
The Ringside interview mini game and the Samurai mini game were god damn amazing.
Also totally lost it at Vinny's Monkey voice.

That RHF QL was awesome. I agree 100% with what Patrick said regarding Rhythm Heaven DS, a lot my mistakes in that game come from not being able to flick correctly rather than not following the rhythm.

I now like Patrick even more the way he talked about Alan Wake.
Game looks great, may you think what you want about the more-action heavy spinoff.

Oh youtube comments.

Doesn't everyone complain about how they usually misrepresent games by not learning about them beforehand?

Yeah. That's what I complain about the most.

That was related to Alan Wake? Patrick seemed to enjoy it and the idea of more combat. It felt like Ryan was basically commenting that they greatly expanded on the part of the game that the least people would want?

So how much Patrick is too much? I was under the impression that he was hired as their dedicated news guy, but now it's impossible to escape him, he's in almost every video they produce.
