Ooof. If you want to restart your Vita you have to hold the power button for an ETERNITY.

Also, triple-Ooof - both times I've tried to take this thing on the road it's locked up within hours. Once because of a supposed dead battery, this time because of supposed demonic intervention.

I haven't seen this discussed much in here. How is the speaker overall? I'm thinking I'll want a set of earbuds for it...any recommendations on a good pair that isn't stupid priced?

Speakers are alright.

You can get some Sennheiser earbuds for $30ish on Amazon. I'm no audiophile but I really liked my Sennheisers.

I don't recall ever buying this many games at a launch (6). Simply awesome. Will be buying a 7th in March when MLB hits.

Same. Feels awesome (and sad for my wallet) at the same time.

I had to buy psn cards so far to purchase games as they psn store refuse to accept my CC after first purchase. Its a great system i just hope it turns out a hit and people start jumping on it and making awesome games.

You're losing now =P

I'm not surprised. I don't think Patsu has the system yet. I've been engrossed in the full Vita experience.

Just picked up Rayman and an extra USB Cable.

About a 9.

The hardware seems good, and games look and run great on it. The OS seems a little clunky though (constantly having to wait a few seconds for the thing to sign into PSN on stuff like the Friends and Group Messaging app gets annoying). I also wish I had more options with things like auto-sleep time, battery meter %, and notification visibility.

I agree with everything here.

I still haven't figured out the Group Messaging. You have only a few options as far as the app automatically retrieving messages. Off, 15 min, 30 min, or 1 hour. Why isn't there a freakin' option like my phone has with email "update as items are received" aka, if I receive a message every 5 seconds I will get it at that moment. Not 15 min later when the system feels it's time to check for new messages.

I understand it's probably to help reduce data usage, but if I can afford it let me use my network!!

Sometimes it seems messages arrive instantly, other times it seems like they arrive late as hell (like 30+ min late when I have it set to check every 15). I don't get it.

Amazon UK still haven't dispatched my Vita, 8Gb card and Rayman Origins :( guess I'm not getting it early! :( Wednesday is probably easier for me, I can nip home before dinner (may have to fake a job in the area) and hopefully play on my lunch break :)

Played Gravity Rush in my local gamestation and i just wanted to keep playing, girlfriend pulled me away :(, early story seemed interesting and the tutorial start was really good! Console is nice to hold, didn't get to try the rear touch screen, seems a quirky feature :) any of you FEB's have any issues with it or is it a good feature?

Can't wait to get my hands on it. Dat OLED. :O
I used the rear touch screen extensively throughout my first run through of Uncharted:GA (climbing ropes, turning artifacts, using the zoom on the sniper rifle and camera, etc.) and found it to be easy and natural to use... In Escape Plan, I'm still fighting with accuracy issues (the number of taps you use to complete a room in that game affects your ranking, so if you miss with a back-tap and have to do it again, it's a bit frustrating), but I generally like it so far and think I can see the potential... I'm glad Sony included it on the system.

9

It's the Trojan Horse for Sony : the word of mouth will be spectacular, I can guarantee it.
I'm thinking this myself... I really don't think launch numbers will define this system; it's going to be a slow-burn... but people will want one when they see one...

Insane is right lol, but I've been reading this thread since it was made. I was/am pretty hyped for the Vita. I read it on my breaks at work, before bed would read a couple pages, a couple more when I woke up ect.
But I now have so much knowledge on everything Vita haha, so many repeated questions in this thread.

So March is looking like a mighty fine month for Vita pick ups, we have what? MLB,Disgaea,Mortal Kombat?!?,Unit 13 pretty much, seems fairly soild.
I wonder when we will hear anything on SFxT's release date

I thought a lot of us were reading every post here. Are we the only ones :|

Who else has ordered vita stuff from Lockerz? Have you received it. I cannot find anywhere on their site to show purchase status.

Yep.

For Lockerz shoppers:

It shipped on the 15th and was delivered this morning.

They sent me an email with a USPS tracking number as soon as it shipped. There's no way of knowing the purchase status before that though.

Only Group Messaging ? Man, you're pretty good. Vita has so many small things to explore, I'm not even done exploring after one week. ^_^

It helped having 3 days off starting the day of the FEB launch. :D

I'd imagine the whole PSN sign-in issue is related to battery life. They sign you in and out fairly often (plus they have to deal with sleep mode) and I suspect it's all done in order to maximize battery life.

Same deal with 3G/wifi. Both of them seem to change behavior when the system is asleep (though some data still comes through). With the 3DS, at least, leaving the wifi switch on while in sleep mode destroys battery life so I'm sure they're trying to avoid this. The Vita lasts so much longer in sleep mode even with everything enabled.

If I leave the Vita on my night stand I find that the battery loses very little over night. With the 3DS I would wake up to find the red light flashing rapidly even if I only put 20 minutes of playtime into it.

Ah that's a good point. PSP was the same way. Using wi-fi always reduced battery life quicker. I guess that's just a limitation that has to be accepted on a wireless device.

I've been traveling all week since I got my Vita, and I've also had big problems with leaving the thing in sleep mode on full charge and it either being completely drained of battery a few hours later, or the blue light is on and it's frozen and can't be turned on. I could leave my psp in sleep mode and rest easy, should I be turning it off completely every time?

I haven't heard anyone trustworthy say it's either 30 or 60. I find it really hard to believe it wouldn't be 60-- NG is an old game that ran on the Xbox. NGS is a marginally upgraded port.

For those who've played both, which is the more replayable sports game: FIFA or Virtua Tennis 4. I love the idea of a deep sports sim like FIFA, but some say it's missing a couple of the latest features (impact engine?) from the console versions, while Virtua tennis seems a bit more arcadey (or at least it always did vs. top spin?). There aren't demos for either, unfortunately, but I'm curious what peoples' impressions are. Also, how is the career mode in VT4?

Even so, I wouldn't mind having a set of options that can be enabled automatically if I'm plugged in to a power supply.

Going from app to app, and app to home screen seems so seamless, but that feeling of fluidity is broken when I want to check my friends list and get greeted by a 5 second "Please wait..." dialogue box.

That's weird. I usually leave it by my bed overnight without putting it on the charger, and the battery doesn't go down at all.

I think I might start doing that. It doesn't take that long to turn on. This is my first day at work since the 13th and the first time its happened. I had 5 days at home with the system and no issues.

OK I have a major concern regarding the Vita launch.

Where are the games at retail!?

Many stores in my area, and from the way it sounds everywhere, don't have games available and the ones they do have they have very limited quantities. Best Buy in particular has no stores in my area with Rayman Origins, Virtua Tennis, Shinibodo 2, Ninja Gaiden, or BlazBlue. Worse yet no stores have them on order, so it is very likely they won't even carry these titles and more.

Is everyone supposed to buy Uncharted and Hot Shots or Wipeout? Well too bad because stores are only got a handful of each and can't even attach these games to but a third of the systems they are selling.

This is a disaster. I know I know it's a launch but at least have all the game titles available.

Like the other guy said, the speakers are just alright. I went ahead and picked up the official earbuds and am pleasantly surprised at their quality, especially for only $20.

For those of you having freezing problems on stand-by....

What do you have running on the system when you put it on stand-by?

I only used stand-by maybe 5-10 times so far, and it hasn't frozen (it froze doing other things like the initial start up process). Every time I use stand-by I always close all apps so that nothing is running. Not sure if that helps or not.

Edit: I also only use stand-by if I'm going to put the system down for 30 min or so. If I'm going to leave it off for any extended time I always turn it off.

I think we should wait until it officially launches for everyone this week. A couple stores I visited this week aren't going to display any Vita games until this Wednesday despite the first edition bundle. It's a very strange launch and I'm not sure most stores are quite sure how to handle it.

When I picked up my system at Best Buy I also found that they only had one or two copies of each game and certainly not ALL of the games either.

Mobile speakers. Not really amazing, but compared to other devices, they're above average.

They max out at about the same volume as 3DS but do sound a bit better. The iPhone 4S has a MUCH louder speaker than either of those devices but it produces fairly poor sound quality. It works well enough for normal play, but I'd recommend headphones.

The weekend before the FEB released, I recall people saying that Sony allowed retailers to break street date on first party titles. That might be why you can only pick up UC, HSG, and WipEout at the moment?

Talking to employees suggest a lot of stores are either selling through stock or have some games held back for the official launch so shelves aren't barren.

For those in Toronto, I saw some Ultimate Marvel at the Downtown Futureshop. It's apparently hard to find.

Do you like waffles?

Yeah I like waffles.

Do you like pancakes?

Yeah I like pancakes.

Do you like French toast?

Yeah I like French toast.

Do-do-do-do-do you should get a mouthful

Is there an easy way to enable/disable 3G? (Don't have a vita yet)

Yes in settings -> network you can turn on and off Bluetooth, 3G and wifi.

One thing I found out a day or so ago that no one else may have mentioned. Group messaging, if you respond to one using a PS3, it responds only to the sender of the last message and not to the group.

I thought this as well, but when I asked, they just had them behind the counter until Wednesday.

Gamestop is actually selling everything at the moment, however, but they seem to be in the minority. Most stores are either selling just a handful of games (mostly first party) or are waiting until Wednesday.

The games I listed (Rayman Origins, Shinibodo, Virtua Tennis, Ninja Gaiden, and BlazBlue) are confirmed not to be at the Best Buys in my area and aren't on order. Friend of mine looked it up. Unless they are rush shipped not a single store in the area will get any of those games, and who knows what else.

I haven't been in a Gamestop in many months. :x

I do most of my game purchases on Amazon so I have no idea what retail looks like at the moment. Sorry.

Yep, my friend who works in BB's game dept pulled up the list last week and showed that quite a few games were going to be BB.com only, so they will not be in store at all.

Sony really needs to shove all these bubbles into better groups. Messaging should be in with Friends. Videos, Music, and Photos should all be in one called Media. Et. Cet. Era.

That's cool but with buy 2 get 1 it is nice to go to the store and take advantage.

The funny thing about that is Ninja Gaiden, Virtua Tennis, and BlazBlue aren't listed on BB.com either. lol

You don't have to be friends with someone to message them!

Not only that, but the Music app needs to be separate so it can run in the background while you play a game. The Video app makes you shut down any game before playing vids. So you wouldn't be able to mush those together either.
