I just watched a compilation of Fernando Torres' goals for Liverpool.

..and I've come to the realisation that I still haven't gotten over our breakup.

Your gorgeous knockout sweet heart got bitter, fat and doesn't love you anymore.

Some sad sucker somehow has the hots for her. Gotta cut off the ties while there's still a chance.

Heading to Valencia today providing everything goes smoothly. Don't know if we have a Valencia-GAF, but I'll be in the centre of the city.

Haha.

Actually in a similar vein the live performance that always sticks in my mind was Michael Owen against us. We drew 3-3 with Liverpool at Hillsborough years and years back and Owen was only just breaking through at Liverpool. We outplayed them and should have won the game, but the difference maker in the game was Owen. He was fucking phenomenal. Absolutely unstoppable. Just blistering pace and ability beyond an 18 year old. He tore us apart and scored his first professional hat trick. It was one of those performances where you just had to sit back and say "Yeah, this kid's going to be class".

I know Owen is pretty much a comedy character at this point but it's easy to forget just how good he was. I think he was one of the best natural finishers of his generation and if it wasn't for injuries and a general lack of interest in the game as time went on I think he'd go down in history as being regarded as such.

OK Footy-GAF, what's the single best performance by an individual player you've ever seen either live or on TV?

Messi, Jared Borghetti (live). Romario vs Madrid, CR7 strike from almost the half circle, Gio Dos Santos GC 2011 final, carlos salcido vs argentina, Ronaldo's dribbling, Ronaldinho dribbling, and Xavi's attacking plays as well as those smooth passes that led to the 1st goal vs Manc's this last years UCL final. There's tons of other great footballers with god like performance that I forget

About pay, here is last years top earners, including sponsorships:

The 10 highest-earning footballers

1) Lionel Messi (Barcelona) - £26.9 million

2) Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) - £23.9m

3) Wayne Rooney (Manchester United) - £18m

4) Kaka (Real Madrid) - £16.7m

5) David Beckham (LA Galaxy) - £16.5m

6) Ronaldinho (Flamengo) - £15.9m
*Facepalm*

7) Carlos Tevez (Manchester City) - £13.4

8) Frank Lampard (Chelsea) - £12.3m

9) Yaya Toure (Manchester City) - £11.9m

10) Thierry Henry (New York Red Bulls) - £11.5m - Just because of the legend status?

Xavi and Iniesta dont even earn half as much as Messi???

You guys really think that wage list is bad? To me that doesnt look horrible at all. At Liverpool we have at least one midfielder making 100k + per week. Pepe Reina, Dirk Kuyt, Jamie Carragher and Glen Johnson probably all make 80-100k as well. Torres was. Joe Cole was on 100k/wk before we loaned him out. We brought in some affordable players like Carroll and Henderson who are around 50 or 60 per week which is a good start. Adam and Jose Enrique probably cheap as well

If you think a list where the highest earner is 70,000 p/wk is bad, you guys would get explosive diarrhea if you saw City's (and United's would have a few shockers too)
Cecil Fucking Purslow

One thing I'll never miss about the Western world is the absolutely dreadful service thats standard in every store from a 99c store to the Dior Homme boutique. It's awful. In Japan, shop staff treat you like a god no matter what you're buying.

THIS. THIS. THIS.

The service they show you over there is absolutely amazing and it doesn't matter if it's in a big city or small town. I love that place. Hopefully I get my work visa and I'm able to move there again.

Cannavaro in WC06. He was fucking ridiculous

I can't even pick a single game!

Also:
Del Piero vs Madrid.
Roy Keane vs Juve :(

OK Footy-GAF, what's the single best performance by an individual player you've ever seen either live or on TV?

Roy Keane vs Juventus

CL Semi-Final 2nd leg 1999. He got himself booked during the game so he already knew he'd miss the final but it didn't stop him from dragging United there.

He was the best player on a pitch which included Zidane and Davids.

I would have guessed Zlatan or Torres would make the top ten...

:lol at Wayne Rooney's posistion on that list. I wonder how much of that is down to him 'questioning the ambition' of United?

On my way to train with the U17's at the Academy - I am excited to work with them and to bring my experience.
@officialvieira

Come back Scholes style is on the cards :p

Guess who's apparently back in full training, just in time for the NLD...

Funny you should talk about short term greed.

7) Carlos Tevez (Manchester City) - £13.4

Yeah, to be fair, he is overpaid, just like every footballer. But how much was he fined again? And City refused him his loyalty bonuses etc. They made a stand, United didn't they just gave him more money and that's the difference.

Seriously, if I was Danny Welbeck I'd be royally pissed off. Your strike partner is on £200k a week and your there on £15k.

His strike partner has done things in the game. Welbeck is new (more or less) to first team football for United.

Rooney's wages are silly, agreed, but the fact that there is a large discrepancy isn't in itself ridiculous or a cause for legitimate resentment.

Arent they requesting(begging) him to comeback and play for them again?? Yup quite a stand they are making!

He's better than every player underneath him there apart from maybe Yaya?

It's an exorbitant amount of money but it's hilarious to hear a City fan laughing at a player getting high wages.

I think Viera's position is quite indicative of the way Arsenal is run these days. Yes City have the money (which probably isn't even his main motivation), but having spent most of his career at Arsenal under one manager at a club renowned for developing youth talent, Viera thought "fuck that" and decided to jump ship to Manchester City. That's one thing that I can't fault City for, their investment in the academy. Have Chelsea done anything like what City are doing?

Chelsea had quite a few young players a few years back who seemed like they were going to break through any minute; Bruma, van Aanholt, Mancienne and McEachran. As it stands, Bruma never plays but isn't allowed to go on loan because they don't have any other left backs, two of them are on loan I believe and Mancienne was sold after a bunch of loan moves.

Where I think the problem lies with Chelsea and City (wouldn't praise the academy too much yet, their only homegrown player is Richards) is that if there is a problem they can throw money at it. For all Wenger's faults, especially the fact he doesn't mix experience with youth, he does a great job of blooding them.

On the subject of great individual performances, Keane's is right, and Cannavaro was indeed incredible at the World Cup. I'd probably say Ronaldo a few years ago when he scored a hat trick against us, he was phenomenal.

Tenuously linked to both that and Arsenal, and don't mistake this for hyperbole, but the first time I actually watched Jack Wilshere play was against Barcelona last year. I'd heard a bunch about him but due to the majority of PL games only viewable on MOTD, he isn't the type to be in a highlights reel. But considering it was the first time I'd ever seen him play, that was one of the last times I was extremely impressed with a player. And again, no exaggeration, but Cleverley in the Community Shield.

Not laughing at the high wages. Laughing at the way he got a pay rise.

City's academy has produced and brought on a fair few players, most of which have moved on now.

@pappe - he has been told he can play again but he has to apologise to the club, his team mates and the fans first. He is still frozen out, I'm yet to have seen him train with the first team. There is no begging, I think he realised he was on dodgy ground and City hold all the cards.

Probably better we give him 200k after years of service rather than 200k just because you need to be enticed to Man City.

I wouldn't have had any qualms if Rooney had left then because he acted like a fucking idiot, but he's our best player so if anyones going to get paid that amount it should be him.

Bruma is on loan to Hamburg right now. Do you mean Bertrand?

Given McEachran is only 16 or thereabouts i would not say he was on the verge of breaking through a few years ago; indeed the fact that he is on loan and to a premier league team is a testament to his potential. You'd be better off using Kakuta as an example.

In any case, pretty much every team will have had a few youngsters always on the cusp of breaking through only to see none or only 1 actually make any kind of impact on the first team because the standard is so high, particularly when discussing teams with Champions league ambitions.

Oh I wasn't slating it, not in the slightest, a loan move was best for him. But compared to the amount of players that'll go on loan and come back and play a few Carling Cup games for United or Arsenal, Chelsea really don't have much. It would be great to see AVB overhaul the whole club, and I'd like to see Chelsea get 4th this year purely because I don't want to see him sacked; I just think it came too quickly and he should have stayed at Porto another year at least.

Apparently Kakuta is playing quite well at Dijon. Hopefully he gets some confidence back with this loan spell.

And thats not including the likes of Denilson/Bendtner and transfer fees. pretty shocking. We pay park 40k a week to stay in the house. what the fuck?

that's outrageous, but what's the source for these numbers? i'm not seeing it in any of those tweets.

OK Footy-GAF, what's the single best performance by an individual player you've ever seen either live or on TV?

Live would either be Thierry Henry the first-last time he played at the SoL, tortured us and got a standing ovation, or Cristiano Ronaldo who topped a great performance off with one of his freekicks and similarly got applauded off by the stadium. For a Sunderland player, Lorik Cana in the infamous beach ball game. He ended up getting put to centre half coz of injuries and what not but he was immense. Won us that game single-handedly. Any time the ball got within 18 yards of the goal, he was there diving in, getting blocks in, last ditch clearances etc. Superb.

In the third qualifying round of the CL in 2001, Wisla Krakow keeper Artur Sarnat almost kept a clean sheet in Camp Nou. Wisla eventually lost 1-0 but they could have easily gone 15-0 down.

I am not making this up. His performance was so impressive that even officials began to shake their head in dazzle.
I have never ever witnessed again something that close to PES in the past 11 years.
