Final Fantasy Versus XIII was announced in 2006. It is now 2012. These are facts.

FFXIII-2 just got released.... so it's VersusXIII time, and in the upcoming months SE will focus on it as the main big game for them.

So.... you waited all these years, just wait a little longer, we can do it.

I've never heard this.

He's not. The ones doing the story are Nojima and Nomura (KH) and the event director is Jun Akiyama (KH, Vagrant Story, and FFXII event planner/director).

I'm not sure but probably the one who directs the execution of the story flow and cutscenes?

That is what people said after XIII was released, then we got a sequel to a game 3 people liked, and now its XIII-3 turn, a sequel to a sequel nobody wanted.

Actually, after XIII was XIV.

XIII - December '09
XIV - September '10
Type-0 - October '11
XIII-2 - December '11

Maybe we'll see a XIII-3, December '13, but something should be this Xmas in Japan, it should be Versus XIII.

But when XIII was released we knew XIV and Agito/Type-0 were coming out, next in line would have been Versus, but then they announced XIII-2, whats to stop SE from announcing XIII-3 at this point.

What do you mean? When XIII was released we knew the release dates of Type-0 and XIV? I don't think we did.

It would be so funny and so pathetic if SE announced FFXIII-3 release date before versus.

Not the release dates, but were in development. Then XIII-2 out of nowhere gets announced and release with a TBC at the end. The planned DLCs aren't going to be enough to resolve whatever those hacks at SE (Toriyama) have cooking, so an incoming announcement of XIII-3 seems very likely.

I'm not saying a XIII-3 isn't coming, I was just saying if it is, it'll be around December '13 at best in Japan, which leaves this December open to a Final Fantasy, and SE have one in the pipeline that should be ready, hopefully.

I was hopeful too until they announced XIII-2, and then found out about the TBC in it. Oh well, we will play Versus whenever it come out. Maybe Spring 2013 to Winter 2014.

Well Nojima is writing the story so it could go either way.

He wrote VII and X which were in retrospect actually pretty good.

But he also wrote VIII.

So who knows.

VIII was a great story, and there was no disc 4. It ended with the defeat of Adel, the sorceress that plagued Laguna in the past, tying up the story nicely.

There was no disc 4.

Lots of people suspected a XIII-2 was going to happen. Personally I expected Versus '11/XIII-2 '12, but that was just my wishful thinking I guess.

eh, after XIII-3 is released, they will probably announce XIII-4!

But it's all good, Vs XIII is still in development and they are coming along nicely, by that time they might even have a couple additional costumes for the main characters completed! we might even get screenshots of the game running on a console *fingers crossed*

lol, hours of turtle grinding would put anyone off. Getting that plat feels like a damn endurance run.

I don't hate it, though; I've played and beaten much worse, and I think people who say it's the worst game they've played this gen are super-lucky. I think the game is just mediocre, despite a lot of the more difficult late-postgame battles being more fun than anything in the main game (Bart battles excluded because those were actually good).

I wasn't expecting that calibre, as nice and interesting it would be if it were intended to be a high-class party-oriented action game; yet I do wonder why SE doesn't ask others who are more experienced with action combat for input. Collaboration isn't necessarily a bad thing, imo... but I guess they'd rather do this entire thing internally and make it a full-fledged SE game as opposed from getting help from anything else.

I'd also like to say that I didn't like the combat HUD in that January trailer either.

I'm really impressed you managed to play through Hoshi wo Miru Hito, I've seen videos of that game and it sounds truly abhorrent... it amazes me how people can claim that 13 is "the worst RPG ever", having not played some of the true stinkers that are out there (like some of the games you mentioned, even though I have yet to experience Beyond the Beyond and Secret of the Stars). It's not even the worst RPG I've played this gen :P

Also am I the only one who thinks 13-2 is really good? Probably my favorite FF game since 9 or 10, not that it's saying much... I'm still waiting for Versus but I never liked the combat in the KH games. Part of me wishes they'd scrap the battle engine in favor of something like FF10's, then rename the game to FF15.

I don't understand why it is taking them so long. TF2 was started when Valve was still small and on a tighter budget, and went through some drastic redesigns and came out awesome. They were being careful. Square has so many resources it seems like they are just focused on all their shovel-ware these days.

I'm hoping for a VersusXIII re-reveal at E3 this year - Nomura said that the next time the game will be shown it will be running on actual hardware so hopefully it'll appear in playable form like when FFXIII-2 appeared at whichever game show it debuted at.

Hopefully a Dec 2012 release in Japan and March/April 2013 in Europe and America - that would fit the pattern of the previous FF games on PS3.

Because they suck at making games.

you don't just paint the Sistine Chapel in a few years, bubs.
This game is the Sistine of the vidja game world! *trollface*

the majority of the chapel only took Michelangelo 4 years, with the Last Judgment over the altar taking about 6 years :D

As much as Square Enix is joke this game will be an interesting experiment.
FFXIII-2 is the kind of game that the current Square Enix feels comfortable to make these days, a turd basically, Versus XIII looks more like the game they would make given unlimited resources with their current know how. It's not something that they can afford to do with many titles, a project that goes beyond their capabilities.
So it will be interesting to see how it turns out in 2013......... :/ considering that Nomura has already denied the possibility of a 2012 release.

This is good news to me. Toriyama needs to be forbidden from ever writing a story ever again. I am willing to blame him for every bad story to come out of SE in the last 10 years minimum. Mostly because I am still bitter about The Third Birthday, but also because the man truly is a terrible, horrible writer. Like, my thirteen year old cousin could outwrite him.

Its probably going to be better than Toriyama's story I assume

Absolutely. Nomura's stuff for KH might be crazy, but at least his characters are consistent. You cannot, in good conscience, say the same of Toriyama.

Now see, I know Square has lost a lot of rep this gen, and frankly they deserve the flak they're getting, but sometimes I wonder if we're not too hasty in writing the whole company off these days, and even the whole franchise. I just finished Four Heroes of Light, and, in spite of a few grievances I had (not being able to target, namely), it was a very good game, and every bit as solid an FF as early installments in the series were. Indeed, it felt a lot like FFIII DS. And Type-0, from what I've seen and played, is a great FF game. Maybe console FFs are taking a huge hit, but as far as handhelds go, I think the series is still strong.

It would be funny if XIII-3 and Type-1 were both announced and released before Versus XIII.

XIII-3? Is this a joke? The fans do not want that game, I think that the message considering FFXIII-2 sales is pretty clear. As for the ending in FFXIII-2 thy have already explained that they want to milk people's wallets with DLCs.
Just let the FFXIII project rest in peace, it didn't work out well.

Yeah, it has hit a few snags but its not dead by any means.

I actually want a XIII-3 if it's going in the crazy-as-fuck direction I think it is. :D
I also had a blast playing XIII-2, sales be damned. Fun game.

That said, I hope none of you (Stu) are honestly expecting Versus this year.

My understanding is XIV v2.0 (relaunch) is S-E's massive release for Q4 2012, right?

It's only March and the game isn't as unfinished as you think.

Versus won't be released this year sadly, Nomura has already confirmed it. They are planning new events, demos, footage though.
FFXIV should be relaunched in Q4 2012 for PC and Q1 2013 on PS3 but really, they're just trying to resurrect a dead body into a zombie. It's an other failed project.

If the concept work shown recently for version 2.0 is to be believed, FFXIV is looking to be completely redesigned... and will look phenomenal. Again, this is S-E circa 2012 we are talking about here, so it will have to be seen/played to be believed, but this relaunch seems like a pretty massive deal.

I also honestly wouldn't be surprised if S-E has redesigned Versus' overall gameplay over the last 'demo' and will rebrand it with a new name, possibly even FFXV as to not break the "3 Main FF's Per Console" cycle. As many others have pointed out, with the reactions to XIII & XIII-2, an already confusing name has the potential to be a nightmare to consumers that don't spend as much time as we do on forums.

FFXIV (relaunch) in 2012
FFXV (formerly VersusXIII) in 2013
*new video game generation begins late '13 or sometime in '14*
FFXVI in 2015/16?

S-E is crazy these days. I wouldn't put anything past Wada.

FF13-2 is not a turd. It's a really fun FF title and very dark one to be honest.

I saw that somebody bumped the thread.. I hoped it was some kind of Junior who can't make a thread and used this one to post news.

Now, I'm just a little more desperate than before.
