Yes, but not for every race on the calendar. There are also two races, the feature and the sprint races (I think those are the names). Guaranteed drama in every race.

"He added: "I suspect the big boys at this end (of the pit lane) could probably go two or three seconds a lap quicker if they really tried, but that's not the name of the game."

I wonder if that was an underhand way of saying to Red Bull "we're quick, very quick... be ready".

I could see a Red Bull engineer reading that and saying "wait, three seconds, what the fuck?". :D

Then I can see Webber saying to Newey "So, you want me to start giving it a bit of a crack then, tiger?".

Cool, I've never watched a GP2 race due the lack of cable TV at home. Now that's not a problem (thank God! The brazilian open TV is AWFUL). GP2 and F1 in HD will fill my heart with happyness, just like the brazilian drivers in the last season! Massa is so great!

How the hell can Williams and Sauber afford to test run all those laps Fuel is expensive!
I want a Williams shareholder to complain about inefficient use of testing funds :P All that money coulda gone to pay for Kimi :P

*is joke maker*

I watched the highlights of Budapest '11 last night in bed. What a great race that was.

I'm slowly making my way through the highlights of last year to hype myself up.
Know what I'm doing to hype myself up? Going.

Where are the beeb 60 mins race reviews? Just the usual places? Wouldn't mind watching them in the leadup.

HRT reminds me of Andrea Moda. Wasn't there even a rule implemented because of Moda that allows to ban F1 unworthy teams?
It's their third season and they are still as unprofessional as in their first year. I would say it's about time to give another team a chance to participate in F1. It can't get any worse then this.

Finally got around to watching the season review blu ray. There's a really well put together feature on the Chinese Grand Prix done entirely using team radio. A quote from Mark on the final lap: “I've got it covered mate. We're on the fucking podium. Come on!” <3

I think the team that wins the championship should be assigned the team that finished last and give them support by means of a driver swap.

If nothing else it would be funny.

They're doing the best they can with the money they have (which is relatively fuck all), there's nothing remotely unprofessional about that.

And if another team wanted in to F1, they'd buy their way in through an existing team (how long have Torro Rosso been up for sale now?).

And funnily enough, that team has never been HRT.

Damn, if that happened to me I would rage so hard. Whoever was driving that FI was button-like smooth, as well.

:D Thanks!

That was from one of our many practice races where we sometimes just act like bastards for a laugh. If someone had done that in our actual league race there would've been loads of rage.

Is this the water pump?

I completely agree with this. Just making it to the grid at all is an achievement in itself, and to have few race ending reliability issues and be within a few percent of the leaders is commendable given the shoe string budget they must run on.

Slow and impeding others? Maybe, but not unprofessional. Unprofessional teams won't even make it into F1, never mind last 2 full seasons with clearly very few sponsors.

I've just been watching the first part of the 2002 season review, and only just realised:

10 years. Good show, old chap!
Looks like he's had chin surgery, though.

Also surprising is the fall from grace of Williams in the last decade. Challenging Ferrari for race wins and now struggling to even keep their head above water :(

Anyone who has watched F1 pre-2000 should be acutely aware of the fall of Williams. Each season they seem to get worse and worse, maybe this season will be their return.

He looks much better now than 10 years ago

I dunno participating in F1 and producing a car thats barely faster then a GP2 car even tho they have F1 rules at their disposal, showing up season after season at the first race with an untested car, not trying any innovations, employing paid drivers or has beens; its just such an half arsed attempt at F1. Maybe not unprofessional by the individuals who work there and have to deal with the bad ressource situation but by the people responsible. I really can't think of a backmarker team that bad since Andrea Moda. HRT is just an embarrasement.

I work in the video game industry and to me what they do is the equivalent of a small inexperienced indie team trying to make a game like Crysis 2.

I'd hardly call a three second difference between HRT and GP2 pole being barely faster.

Everything you mentioned come down to a lack of money, they simply can't afford to do those things. This comes down to their inability to attract sponsors is because of their poor performance, but they can't make any performance upgrades because they can't afford it.

The underlying problem is the FIA's prize money system where they have to finish 10th two seasons in a row to get ANY of it. Last year Lotus (now Caterham) got around £30million where HRT and Virgin got zero. If all teams got a share of the prize money (albeit staggered for championship placing) then I expect HRT and Marussia would be in a similar situation to where Caterham are now.

You don't understand the inner workings of F1, do you?

If anything Virgin/Marrusia are more of a joke. They have much more money & more experienced/better drivers but each year they finish below HRT.

That's what I was thinking too. For all the flack HRT gets, its funny how they still manage to outperform 2 other teams with better budgets/experience :lol

I think given a straight head to head between HRT and Virgin, then Virgin would have come out on top. The problem is when a team scores no points then for the standings they take their best result rather than an average of their season. Essentially it means that one fluke result could give them 10th place even if they DNF every other race. I would be interested to see the average finishing position for the two teams over the course of last season.

True for 2011. Virgin had a few 14th & 15th position finishes, but HRTs 13th came out of no where!

But in 2010 there was no much between them, infact HRT probably deserved to finish above them
