GAF Plays: Mass Effect series (unmarked spoilers)

Finally beat ME1 again. Will start another ME2 playthrough soon.

I saved the council this time simply because I want to see their face when the invasion will begin. If you save them at the end of 1 they clearly believe in Reapers because of the Sovereign incident. Please tell me they won't change their mind in ME2. It's the first time I'm saving them too.

I found adepts to be quite strong in ME1. All of your skills work even when enemies have a shield. Biotics also work on the final boss >.>

2.

I can't stand 1.

It's all about Incinerate. Go Heavy, and watch any common mob go down in a shot.

AI Hacking only needs a single point to be effective, honestly. More than that is a waste.

I'd also go Explosive Drone over Attack Drone.

And personally I also like taking either Geth Shield or Barrier as my bonus power to act as my panic button. Really useful if you're in an Oh Shit! moment.

Some of those are hilarious, and it fills you in so much on character backgrounds. Miranda's IMs with her sister are great, Jack's info is as crappy and useless as her character. Mordin's were pretty good.
Garrus' kill list is pretty awesome, too. Quite the creative turian you have there. Killing a batarian drug dealer by showing his face into the drugs is one thing, but killing a quarian with a cough? That's just showboating at that point. His visor specs are also pretty neat.

I'm assuming I'll need a shield later on.

But yeah. Incinerate is fucking amazing. Paired with Mordin's Cryo Blast?

btw, only allowing Mordin and Zaeed to live. I'm going full Mass Genocide run.

You realize Engineers get Cryo Blast, right?

Engineers are basically Mordin + Tali put together.

Loved engineers in ME1, but universal cooldown kind of killed the class IMO. I just can't play ME2 without a "fun", active power as a result. Vanguard/Infiltrator all the way.

In my current playthrough at level 58 I am using kaiden and garrus as my mains, I only ever used kaiden at low levels but man he is really good IMO, lift is over powered in mass effect 1 :P

Yeah I used him too and his powers are super useful. On the other hand, he dies rather easily. The good thing to do with Kaidan is to have him spam all of his electronics and biotics skills. Powers in ME1 are really really strong. Biotics work even on shielded enemies and high level electronic skills can easily kill an enemy in one hit.

As long as he has some powers not in cooldown mode, he's useful. In my run I used Adept Shepard, Wrex and Kaidan and bosses are super easy. You spam biotics and powers will all three and they all die in no time. They even work on Saren/Sovereign.

Just got the IFF. It annoys me I've been hauling around Jack/miranda/Jacob for God knows how long, and Legion is the character i spend the least amount of time with. Shame.

Also, fuck the husk hordes on the derelict reaper, and the Scion's shockwave that can hit you 100yds away when your out of sight. Boo!

Kaidan and Garrus was my Vanguard's main team as well. I loved those little bars that tells you how balance your team is in ME1. Removing it in Me2 was fucking stupid.

I *kind of* agree. I mean, you had a lot more squad mates in ME2. And a lot of them were repetitive in terms of skill.

So.
I've plotted my run of ME2 up to ME3's launch.
If I keep to schedule, then I will be finishing up ME2 around 12:20am on March 6th, for an easy transition to ME3.

Seeing as I wrote that, it would be redundant for me to recommend it. If you have any further questions on planet scanning, though, I'll answer those.

After playing, I now remember this was my strategy when I played at launch, works pretty good, thanks. What I didn't do before though is only scanning Rich planets then leaving at moderate. Is this just because Rich planets are faster to mine and you can move on quickly? This is what I am doing thus far and it seems to work well.

Playing as Infiltrator has been fun. Lining up headshots and taking enemies down feels really good.

If you do play Infiltrator you can get a godlike sniper rifle on that collector ship. But yeah, other classes are able to use them partway through.

That rifle is so awesome. If it has a head, it's dead. That includes the big mechs. They explode so nicely when you headshot them.

I hope I get to keep that rifle for ME3.

You know, replaying through ME1, the Council is actually rather reasonable most of the time.

Turian Counselor is still a massive dick, though.

Caved and bought Bring Down the Sky and Cerberus Network, I now have all story DLC and will be starting up my final ME1/ME2 playthroughs before ME3. Can't wait!

Gaf, I need your advice.

Should I do Shadow Broker before or after the suicide mission?
Personally, I do it just before the IFF mission.

Everyone gets a loyalty mission, after all, where they or someone they know needs help. This one is for Shepard. Old friend is in trouble with the Shadow Broker, go help her.

At least that's how I see it.

Last night, a wrench was thrown into my plans.

Since all powers import into your ME3 character build, I now have a choice.

a) do everything to get to level 30, thus maxing my powers and doing my Mass Genocide run in New Game +

b) saying screw it and stick to the plan

Just completed Bring Down the Sky, well worth the 80 points. Feel a little bad about letting Balak flee though. Also never knew you got to speak with your mom if you picked spacer at the beginning. Pretty cool. It's amazing I'm still finding stuff I somehow missed while replaying.

Wooh, ME2 runthrough finished, and this time I got the 'no one left behind' achievement. Not sure why didn't get it first time around, I chose all the right people, I guess that someone must've become disloyal without my knowledge (possibly jack when I chose tali over her).

The End Run/Suicide Mission tracks in the soundtrack are fucking awesome, but I do miss Faunts playing over the credits.

Quite surprised at some of the names under 'additional voices'; Michael Dorn, Dwight Schultz, Phil LaMarr.... Wonder which TNG actor will complete the trifecta in ME3?

Just finished up on Horizon. How come Ashley shows up from nowhere and nobody asks about it. Why didn't she come to help, seemed kinda silly for her to just appear out of nowhere.

You didn't pick out Dorn in Grunt's loyalty mission? I'm actually pissed I had to kill him because having a Worf-sounding Krogan in my party would be fucking awesome. ;_;

I was convinced it was Dorn, but part of me thought "Surely the great Michael Dorn wouldn't be relegated to a minor character who I get to kill".

Guess I was wrong.

(But yeah, a Michael Dorn Krogan in my team would've been awesome).

Did you skip the cutscene beforehand?

Heh, I meant after the final battle. I know why she was on the planet, but after the final battle is over with the Collector boss, Ashley just strolls out from wherever she was hiding.

How come they don't question where she was during all of that.

I wanna see Shepard's ma in ME3 damn it. No fucking emails please. Just straight up "let's go shoot something" at least

Did you skip the cutscene beforehand?

No, it's a plot hole, just like the Normandy not shooting the ship. She was the first one in stasis, yet the collectors suddenly happen to "miss" her.

Definitely agree with you, especially if you were playing a new character for the first time.

So I've come to the conclusion that I'm just going to do the comic when ME3 comes out. I've replayed 1 and 2 so many times that I can't even keep track of decisions. Anyone else doing this?
