Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 confirmed for Nintendo DS

Oh what seriously? That was a GB game. Mindblown. That game had so much depth and my 10 year old self just loved it.

Sigh. so many good games left unlocalised. Not to mention 3DS is region locked. ;_;

Before Medabots was an anime series, it was a series of games. The first was released in 1997 on GameBoy, and spawned a tonne of sequels, and spinoffs. The series always did the Pokemon thing by releasing two versions of the same games - the Kabuto (known in the west as Metabee), and Kuwagata versions (known in the west as Rokusho). They even did the all encompassing third games in the Parts Collection titles, which were focused on challenge tower type events to get the best parts quickly. There are 6 titles (7 is in development on 3DS) in the main series, as well as 3 remakes/ports. Of those 9 in the main franchise, only a single one has been localized into English. It is the remake based on the second game in the main series. The second game is what the anime is based on. I was certain that the remake of the first game on GBA (which was released after 2's remake) would've been localized, but it wasn't...

The franchise was dead in Japan for a few years due to the insane milking it went through, but had a nice resurrection after the DS title came out. The DS title is a quasi-sequel to Medarot 2.

That was a whole new generation that gave them the opportunity to introduce the missing link, they probably won't get that chance here.

It is pretty stupid though, that's for sure.

Well they don't even have to invent a new Pokemon in this case, just do some technical modifications, insert an "Afro Stone" item or something.

There are plenty of technical holes to fill. They could bring back the Contests, then there would be a method of evolving Feebas again.

(edit:)
Sequel. SEQUEL.

I dunno, effectively calling it Gen V 2.0 leads me to believe it will have vastly expanded world and story elements, but not an entirely new game.

At least that's my wishful thinking, so I can fully enjoy these without having played the first ones.

Yup. Sounds about right. And here I thought the announcment was going to be groundbreaking. Perhaps an innovative pokemon game, but that's asking way too much.

Pokemon hasn't been about innovation since Red and Blue came out. It's been about refining and refreshing a tried and true formula that the fans still eat up after 15+ years.

Everyone was expecting this to be Pokemon Grey, a complete rehash of BW and a stop-gap to hold us over while the next gen is still in development for 3DS. Instead we're getting the first numbered sequel in the main Pokemon series and it will probably be far more substantial than Grey would have been, while still serving as a stop-gap for the next gen.

If that's lazy then so be it, I'll be there day one.

Oh wow. Never knew that much. Big fan, huh?

From what you've posted, the DS one is a quasi-sequel so is the 3DS going to a reboot of the franchise or continuing what the DS one was about?

They did introduce an item to evolve Feebas with, actually. I wouldn't object to linking some of the evolutionary lines, but I did actually like that so many were parallels to ones that already existed. It gave the idea that you were in a whole new world, far far away, until the postgame areas trounced all over that.

I am hoping that this is a legit sequel though, since I've been longing for a Pokémon game set in a whole new region without introducing any new Pokemon, and just letting what they had shine for a bit. Being a story sequel lets them finally break the gym/evil group/elite 4 structure once and for all too. I know that none of this is going to happen, but it's nice to dream.

Holy crap, I don't check my news sites for ONE day and NUMBERED POKEMON SEQUELS are announced? I wonder how the version crossovers are going to work? Should people with black get white?

I'm actually really happy it's on the DS, this means I get one more main pokemon game in Japanese before I have to shell out for an import system... Not looking forward to that...

Well... didn't expect this...

some quick thoughts-

>squenix collabiration?

>So, pokemon has fusions now?

>Black+White dragon fusion edition coming out december for 3DS?

>ninty knew no-one liked R/S, so no remakes for them. just skip all the way to remake black and white :lol

>weren't gold/silver sequels of red/blue.

Yes, I am a pretty large fan. So much so I run the only Medabots fansite interest in keeping up with news on the franchise. It's very difficult for me to follow though, since I do not read Japanese, and there's a lot of small things that fall through the cracks (mainly model kits and trading card information).

We really do not know much about Medabots on 3DS. It was announced in October 2010, and since then we've only received confirmation that the game still exists, as well as a failed design for a robot. Rocket Company (the company behind Medabots) is hiring new employees specifically for the franchise.

I hope we get some information about 3D soon.

Maybe they'll end up doing a Gray anyway. B/W and B2/W2 plus new content.

I like this idea, though could a DS cart hold both?

I'm happy to see these games come to the DS. It will take a while to create a main series Pokemon game designed specifically for the 3DS. This way they can re-use graphics, make a "little" money and pay for all those artists who are, right this moment, rendering all those Pokemon (including the 112 new Pokemon) in 3D.

Seriously, Pokemon battles in 3D! The Metapods are going to practically leap from the screen!

The current Kyurem is the leftovers after Reshiram and Zekrom split off from it, so it makes sense for it to be a fusion...

...But is there one where they all get recombined coming, too? The original Kyurem?

However, since both Zekrom and Reshirem get reincarnated from orbs, it could be that we just get another of those to equip on Kyurem.

Look at the left side of Black Kyurem and the right side of White Kyurem, compared to their opposite sides.

How very strange! Wasn't expecting this at all lol.

Having said that, I was never going to play a Grey but will play this assuming it is actually a 'new' game so I guess it makes sense!

Great site! Hope for all the best about Medabots on the 3DS. The fact that Medabots DS sold more than Natsume's expectations means they will continue the franchise, although localisation will be the tricky part...

As a huge Pokemon fan I can say that I like this idea better than a Grey version and can't wait learn more about it so I can import the game in June(one of the reasons I'm happy its on the DS).

All the people who are like "lol DS" confuse me. Do you guys sell your old consoles as soon as a new one comes out? I still have my 1994 SNES and I still play Super Mario World on it.

It just seems silly that they wouldn't put one of their biggest franchises on the device that could potentially expand from this. Their reasoning has something to do with backwards compatability and the cost of developing a new engine I'm sure, but it's still kind of ridiculous.

well the system is actually dead right now. it's surprising to see first party games come out for it, especially given the troubles early in the 3ds's life.

Some people do, even if I think they're crazy. That the 3DS is backwards compatible is helpful.

However. some people will be talking from a sales perspective - a Pokemon game is a guranteed multimillion dollar seller. Not having it on 3DS might seem odd, even if it makes sense in other ways.

These are also releasing about 3-4 months earlier than "Grey" was expected, likely a worldwide release, too.
Given that Meloetta is set to be revealed before the movie, it's possible that Gen 6 could come next year, especially if Hoenn is included in this sequel.

lmao saw this on kotaku...

Yeah, but on the other hand, it's not gonna have that fucking 3DS tax!

Priorities, people.

Ya it seemed like Kirby Mass Attack would be the last Nintendo made DS game. Then came Pokémon X Nobunaga and now these! Poor Kirby. He was to be one of the systems swansongs an yet fate decided differently. ;.;

MORE POKEMON MORE WIFI STUFF MORE EVOLUTIONS MORE POKE BALLS MORE GAME FREAK MORE DS

Can we do something interesting with this milked-beyond-belief series or just retire it for a while?

You mean like... making a numbered sequel for the first time ever? Maybe they should try that.
