Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 confirmed for Nintendo DS

Yeah, it's much easier to develop a potentially proper sequel to a game for the first time in the franchise's history, rather than add a battle frontier and a few other elements to an existing game and call it a day.

This is a much better option than the traditional "Grey", and they were never going to update the graphics for the 3DS for the 3rd version, anyway.

Jeez, I can't stand the self-righteous, fan-wank entitlement going on.

Pokemon has never pushed the graphics of the system it's on. While I expect a reasonably big bump from BW2 to Gen 6, it likely won't be anywhere near the level of RE:E or KH3D.

And I can't stand your apologetic attitude, that makes no sense unless you own Nintendo stock.
Pokemon has been relatively the same since Red and Blue. I don't see why I should be happy about it. Like I said earlier, going by this reasoning, Mario and Dragon Quest should have stayed 2D indefinitely.

It's entirely reasonable to demand effort and ingenuity when you pay good money for entertainment. And before you ask, no, I am not planning on buying these games, and I am going to buy a 3DS for Pokemon when it eventually hits.

How condescending of you.

Even if you assume you're talking about graphics you're wrong.

I didn't say you should. But I'd take a sequel over a traditional 3rd version any day. A potentially proper sequel is anything but "lazy".

Like I said earlier, going by this reasoning, Mario and Dragon Quest should have stayed 2D indefinitely.

2D Mario outsells 3D Mario. I don't know about Dragon Quest.
Going by what reasoning? Not putting a third version that wouldn't be able to communicate with the DS games of the same generation with no graphical update on the 3DS would have been a good idea?

You have no idea how much "effort" has been put into this game, nor what the asking price will be. Basically you're assuming that because it's a DS game it's less worthy of your time, which is odd.

Go ahead and not buy these games - based, seemingly, solely on the platform they've been released on. It makes no difference to anyone, especially the people that matter.

Certainly, it's a sign of bad planning/lack of foresight, but I don't see how it's so offensive or lazy.

I wish one day they would actually make a truly different and evolved sequel to red/blue. I guess they don't have to, though. I figured Animal Crossing was the laziest franchise Nintendo ever had, but this certainly makes me remember how little distance they've travelled in 15 years.

Pokemon Black & White 2?

Not sure if I like the new Kyurem forms. I love the concept, but Kyurem is too ugly to love.

Anyway, I would have hoped 'Pokemon Black 2 and White 2' would have been 3DS direct sequels. Same region, but new plot and graphics and such. Ah well. :/

The one thing I want from B/W2 is for them to un-neuter the online battling. Taking out Auto-100 for 6v6 single battles is probably one of the worst changes they made in B/W. I cannot fathom why they did that whatsoever, and its pretty much the only reason I barely touched my copy of white after beating it. I used to play competitively a ton, but this gen I haven't even bothered to EV train a single pokemon.

THIS. THIS. THIS.

It killed the endgame for me since my friends/family who aren't insane like me can't battle me on an even footing so we don't even bother.

You're the reason Black/White was a straight line.
Now, Wise, that is simply untrue. There were at least two bends in the line.

Sigh...I loved Pokémon Black and I will surely buy the sequel...but it saddens me that I perfectly know I'll never be able to catch all of the Pokémon.
In one game? No. But you can do maybe 95% in two games, getting the rest via trades and wifi events.

that's pretty cool.
i don't mind them being for the ds honestly, not that switching to the 3ds would've done that many benefits to the pokemon series.

hope they're out this year in the west!

I really want to slap people's face when they say "Pokemon has been the same since Red and Blue". That's as blanket as saying "Street Fighter has been the same since II".

Don't get some of the anger that's been directed at these. We know very little about them. They could even be RSE-remake equivalents but with a new story because of the large chronological gap between Gen III and Gen V (and perhaps because there's been no break in compatibility since Gen III, so less need for a 1:1 remake).

My guess is they're waiting a little while longer before announcing the next generation because they don't want to rush another hundred pokemon, or they liked the story a lot so they wanted to continue it. I actually started playing Pokemon White this week since I didn't have the time to play it when it first got released. Can't wait to play this as soon as it releases.

Holy shit

Thanks for the "Greatest Hits" EmCeeGramr, I wouldn't have done it better ;D (I'm very fond of Charlequin's post tbh).

Anyway I just wanted to say that there won't be any more "rumours" by me. I don't want a "worst GAF rumour ever" tag, recognition... etc. and telling this things and breaking ndas brings a lot of risks that are not worthy. So now I'll be keeping the info just for me, sorry ;P (I left with a bang at least!)

Thanks to anyone who believed me (was there anyone?) and remember... this is NeoGaf, so you should believe!

See you in the MC Threads! :)

:( see what you people have done!

Since it's still on the DS, they might finally shake up the formular? Oh wait, its Gamefreak. :(
Wouldn't be surprised if it's just the ,,version 3'', but split into two games for maximum profit.

How much is it being on the DS gonna hurt sales do you think?

Or will it not?

Seems weird either way...

Kids will now that their 3DS is backwards compatible. So do we. I don't think it will hinder sales.

The legend is here

You should totally *not* drop any hints about Pokemon 3DS games

Hm looks like Nintendo has less control over Game Freak than we thought

There's no way they'd let them move onto Gen 5 a month before the 3DS comes out, then make a DS sequel the year the Vita is released globally. Then again, the 3DS is doing perfectly well without Pokemon. Maybe we'll see Pok3Dmon when it dips in sales in a year or two.

No idea what this is, but of course I'll buy it. I am Game Freak's bitch. Just put in Pokemon following you and we'll have a dealski.

It does seem weird, but his is how I look at it:

I own a 3DS and will be buying this game regardless. Had I not owned a 3DS yet, I would have purchased the game for my DS. Alternatively, if the game had released

exclusively for the 3DS and I had not already owned a 3DS, it would have likely been the tipping point me to once and for all jump on the 3DS train.

Although, I am also a long time pokemon fan, so take it for what it's worth.

There's a 32 million install base already for that in Japan, plus 5 million+ conscientious 3DS gamers currently

We know Pokemon is a huge franchise in Japan, the largest there arguably, so sales will happen one way on another.

Also keep in mind, Nintendo probably realizes the 3DS is more popular with an older crowd currently, perhaps not as many children have 3DS's yet. So they want to keep it on the DS to expose as many people as possible, and really, it doesn't matter in the end...because the 3DS is backwards compatible.

I thought it was pretty well known that Gamefreak/Pokemon games basically run themselves...

Also consider the majority of the sales come worldwide; the DS is still selling respectably around the globe even if it is dead in Japan

I think this is a smarter move, to be honest.

The next game will be on the 3DS anyways.

People with a 3DS can still buy and play it, and Nintendo will certainly be adamant about letting people know that, so it's really no biggie.

That and it's Pokemon, so that always helps

For the last three portables, the first Pokémon releases in Japan were 11 months, 20 months, and 22 months. If 3DS isn't getting one this year, it will be the longest a Nintendo portable has gone without Pokémon since the original Game Boy (82 months).

Does the '2' in the titles not mean anything to you?
Considering it's a Pokémon first, no, it doesn't tell us much about what will be the same and what will be different.

1. If it was a 3DS games, it would be just a port of B/W technically speaking, with just 3D attached and maybe StreetPass (no AR, no 3D battles).
Also larger viewing area thanks to increased resolution and SpotPass.

From a perspective of selling software, wouldn't a DS game sell more, potentially? From a consumer perspective of people who have a DS but don't own a 3DS, is there a downside to this I'm not seeing?
Franchise fatigue.

While the choice of DS over 3DS is somewhat bizarre, I think the idea of making a sequel to the best pokémon games in generations is great.

I was asking for more pokémon story and this will be it. Black/White had the most amazing ending of any pokemon game up until now.

I was thinking, unless they have plans for Pokemon Grey, why not just rename these new games Pokemon Black Grey and Pokemon White Grey? It would fit and sound better than just adding a two at the end. Though I think Grey Black and Grey White sound a bit better, but either one.
Cannot wait to grow berries, totally psyched.
I kind of prefer growing berries in the dream world. However, I think they should bring back berry growing in these games.

We've never seen so many on a single platform before. I'd be more likely to get tired of Mario Kart, too, if 8, 9, and 10 were 3DS games.

It's more like if they did Mario Kart 8, remade Mario Kart 64, and then Mario Kart 9.

I agree though, the DS is swelling with Pokemon games. I still maintain that Black should have been Diamond, and they should have damn waited till the next for Gen 5.

I wouldn't be so disappointed about it being a DS game if it wasn't for a couple of things:

- Pokémon is the perfect game for StreetPass and SpotPass features (and the C-Gear itself is the best example, along with Mistery Gifts) so it feels underwhelming and wasted not to use them.

- 3DS communication features like StreetPass don't work while playing DS games.

So unless they manage to make a dual-cart of some sort or they make an eShop app that manages 3DS features for the game or some strange shit like that, it feels lazy.

Fake edit: playing Pokémon Black at 30FPS feels strange right after playing Emerald at 60FPS :\

Perhaps, they want to stress the fact this will be a full sequel and not just a simple expansion.

I don't think anyone here fails the understand the reasoning behind this (greed), but that doesn't mean we should be happy about this.

I think the way they are handling the franchise is disappointing and lazy. I get why they are doing this, but I don't like it nonetheless.
i didnt say you should be happy bout it. i dont even buy or play the new pokemon games but yeah id rather them stick to the cycle too. it was its own little original thing it had going on. just posted that because out the countless WHYS and wtfs

Instead of GenIII what if these are sequels to GenIV?

Pokémon Black Diamond
Pokémon White Pearl

And Platinum is kind of a Grey-ish color... o.o

Yeah, I wanted a Pokémon game with Streetpass now that I'm starting to have three streetpasses a day.

Then is the second thing you say. I don't play DS games while I'm outside home because I fear to lose streetpasses.

Some of you are talking as if this means that we won't ever have a 3DS Pokemon game. Lol.

If anything this means that they will take all the time they want to do a proper game for the 3DS and that's a good thing.

Where is there to go for Gen IV sequels? Everything's apparently fine in Sinnoh since Cynthia sees fit to travel all over the place.

I wanted one sooner than later, that's all. But the Meloetta announcement has made me think that they will end this generation soon so they can begin the sixth generation in 3DS. In other words, they don't want to split the fifth generation between DS and 3DS.

Cynthia abandoning her post to go on vacations easily allows Cyrus to return or Ghetsis to set up shop in Sinnoh. Gotta re-use them DS GenIV assets!

These are my hopes and dreams:

It's called Black 2 and White 2 because we will be revisiting a more jam-packed version of Black and White than ever before, hopefully with Pokemon following you around again.

The reason there are two versions and they're called Black 2 and White 2 is because an extra region will be available to play after you beat Unova....Hoenn! So like Gold/Silver/Crystal let you play through an updated Kanto, these will let you play through an updated Hoenn. That's why it's neither a RSE remake or Pokemon Grey. It's both. Hence the Ruby/Sapphire colors/patterns on the Black 2/White 2 logo.

Don't crush them, Nintendo!

That's a bad excuse. If they didn't spend their time on this game they could have done a proper game on the 3DS by now.
