Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 confirmed for Nintendo DS

What are the odds this one will actually include multiple save files? That's one thing that always bugged me. Was there ever any good reason they only allowed one save file? it sucks when me and my sister can't play and have to buy two separate games.

Sure but that doesn't make BW2 unplayable. Who cares when they come out? Judge them as their own games.
Sure, and I'm necessarily going to judge the 4th major same-platform entry in six years more harshly than something that tries to keep up with the present. With this, there will be as many major Pokémon sets for DS as there were for GB, GBC, and GBA combined.

3DS versions would have 30% less play time per charge.
Fair enough. :)

3ds versions of pokemon will probably use 3d models, though. sprites make the ds the superior choice. ;(
I've been all set for some nice sprite-based Pokémon with depth.

zero. since this is ds, just invest in a flash cart and give yourself infinite save files.

The save files for Pokémon games are massive. The cartridges probably don't have enough room.

Do we know when more info will come? The game releases in 4 months so they can't hold out info for too long...

CoroCoro magazine will be out around March 15 I believe. So sometimes around then we will get more info. Unless of course Pokemon Smash or some other magazine reveals more stuff before

Doesn't make sense. Even if that's true (and I'm not sue it is--I want to say there's typically a lot of extra room in Pokemon cartridges lately), it would be a simple matter to bump the cartridge size up a notch to take care of that, and this late into the DS's life that could be done at minimal cost, especially for someone like Game Freak. I'm not sure what GF's actual reasoning is for not allowing multiple saves on one cart, but I'm pretty sure this isn't it.

Because how easy would it be to catch them all if we were allowed multiple save slots? The whole shtick of Pokemon games is trading with others to obtain all the monsters and then battle them.

Wouldn't be any easier since Pokemon likely wouldn't be transferrable across saves.

Asking why Pokémon doesn't have multiple save files is as crazy as asking why Animal Crossing doesn't. There's soooo much info to keep track of the saves gotta be huge. Plus it makes legendaries, master balls, etc more rare.

You'd still be able to have multiple games each with a different starter, etc, on one cart, and it would devalue the importance of trading.

Maybe but they wouldn't be in a single save file so Pokedex-wise it wouldn't matter.

why are we even having this conversation, it's just to get extra sales and foster the social environment. Same as DQIX.

I am 99% sure there was only one save on the original games for technical reasons. And Pokémon save files are so massive compared to any other game on their respective systems it's probably still the same reason.

Besides, since 3rd gen the system saves the game twice to minimize data loss to a minimum in case of corruption due to glitching or getting out of battery while saving, so that's twice the size of an already big file.

There's already two files, technically, all games since Gen III save a backup every time you save the game just in case something gets corrupted. But that's unlikely to go anywhere either.

edit: beat, again.

Replaying Pokemon White, and guys? Some of the sprites look as low res as fuck. Look me in the eyes and tell me simplistic 3D models on the 3DS wouldn't look better.

There was some site that had an interview with Gamefreak, and they explained that the games only have one save file because it makes the experience more "personal." That isn't exactly what they said, but the excuse was in that area.

Just checking GameFAQs, saves are 2 MB max or less.

You're probably looking at the dst files, which are effectively save states. The duc files are meant to be closer to the actual save files.

Doing a quick Google search on DS save file sizes, it sounds like the normal maximum is 512kilobytes (4mbit) (I use the term "normal" because there have been some special exceptions like Daigasso Band Brothers DX and Warioware DIY). The Pokemon games have used 256KB (2mbit) flash for saves.

You're comparing apples and oranges. 3D models on the 3DS might look better than sprites on the DS, but sprites on the 3DS would look even better than either.

Simplistic 3D models on the 3DS wouldn't look better.

When the Pokemon finally do go 3D I hope GF goes all out with the animations. Attack animations, defense animations, status and item animations, etc... But also make them fast and short and sweet. I don't want to spend minutes on each turn waiting for a surf animation to finish.

and less like pokedex 3d.

So, right now we're all pretty much expecting for the story to take place in a different region (N was seen in a faraway region sequel hook, yadayada), right? So let's just assume that the region this'll take place in is completely new rather than an already existing one (For the record, I'm in the Hoenn camp. But this is more interesting.)

What would the starters be? I guess it'd make sense for us to get the same ones from B/W, but I can't help but think that'd be kind of boring. Maybe they'd somehow switch it up a little. I hope for that, but it's probably most likely that we'll just be using the gen 5 starters again.

Would we just be running into B/W pokemon again? I'd be down with that, but maybe they'll get some older guys in there somehow. I guess I don't really care either way.

Would we play as the same characters from B/W? They could set up some plot so that we lost all our Pokemon from the first game and have to start all over. Maybe pull an Ash and decide to leave them all in Unova. Or we'll just be somebody different, and run into the B/W main characters in the game. How weird would it be to find them and actually have a conversation with them? Think Golden Sun 1/2 main character swap.

How would legendaries work? Obviously we'll be seeing Black and White Kyurem, but what else? There won't be any new ones to fit in there, so maybe there'll just be older legendaries placed around the region? Or maybe they'd just not have any. I doubt that, though.

This is all so unprecedented. I don't even know what to think. I can't wait to get some actual information about this.

I don't think there will be a Gray. The next games will be the initial Gen 6 pair, then maybe the remakes, then maybe the third version for Gen 6.

You know what I really want?

Pokewalker 2.

Make it happen!

That reminds me that my Pokewalker died and I need to get a new battery. My Spiky Pichu better still be there when I get a new one :>:(

Anywyz: This was deffiantly a shock. Its sequels? That I can get behind.but its on DS??? WTF? I don't care if they go (Polygonal) 3D or not but I wanted widescreen! i wanted streetpass and spotpass! I wanted steroscopic 3D! :/ Oh well...will probably buy both versions(Defiantly one) day one and play them on my 3Ds (I have to play all DS games on my 3DS since it tracks playtime lolz)

it's a sequel. that's all we know. it's not a normal third version.

Technically we don't even know that.
We just know their names and the names of the 2 Kyurems.

Unless you're saying "sequel" in the all encompassing term (which would include the typical 3rd versions as a "sequel").

i think it's safe to say these are a continuation of the bw story. third versions are... re-tellings.
