The Player 1 Podcast Topic

Haha, Phil's Leno impression made this all worth it.

And people quitting CAGcast for Vita hate? Shipwreck bought one this past weekend so maybe you guys should come back for more impressions/hate, hohoho

At least in my case I don't listen to the CAGcast, I just downloaded the ep to hear about launch games and recommendations and such. Also CheapD was on 8-4 for the Japan Vita Launch and wanted to hear further impressions.

Between them and Garnett I don't know who has the most nitpiky hatred towards the vita.

What about the audio from the ustream?

Well, I don't save the audio from the ustream and don't set that up to record itself. Maybe I will start doing that. :)

Usually when we record I have a backup track of the skype call. It was unusable this time because I'd put it on Double Gain so everyone but me was busting levels, and then it only had half the show 'cuz my Internet connection went out/was slowed to a trickle. Luckily Mike also recorded a backup track, which is what we used. But then he lost his internet in the last 10-15 of the show. So you guys missed the original outro devolving into Galaxy Quest references - I'm sure we'll do that again though.

I think this was the most technical problems we had in one show, except maybe the one we had to record the first 15-20 minutes 3 times. That was fun (but also a looong time ago).

CJ, audio was very listenable. It wasn't hard on my ears or anything. You did a commendable job. Sounds better than those crap live shows from other podcasts.

At least one of you guys is on Windows, right? There's a program called MP3 Skype Recorder that you might want to get. It backs up the entire Skype call, in surprisingly good quality for the filesize it spits out. Might help out in situations like this, although the quality is dependent on the actual quality of the call on that persons end too.

I hope not, CAGcast is still a must-listen as soon as it comes out for me.

CAG on Vita: I have to take Cheapy's Vita criticism with a grain of salt, for reasons he himself has mentioned: the product really isn't what he wants for gaming right now (insert Apple joke here). I'm curious to hear Shipwreck's thoughts after seeing his tweets concerning picking one up, he seemed pretty excited.

Personally when I'm not traveling I don't play handhelds, so it has been a bit easy to hold off on the Vita right now, I have to agree with Cheapy that when I'm at home I have a HT with consoles to play. The sale week special with the 8gb mem card and b2g1 almost broke me, I have $150 at Best Buy from Christmas burning a hole in my pocket, but ME3 CE next week kept me from pulling the trigger (not kidding on that, I'd probably have broke down if I didn't have a day one buy next week).

But this is a P1P thread so slightly tangential: mik was 100% spot on about the 1000 hours versus $5k. Hell I'd pay $5k right now to get 1000 back from work this year. Maybe with that time I could justify playing Vita at home!

Regarding Mass Effect 3 - Mike can say what he wants about those asswipes not playing ME3 but man is Player One going to be a much needed break in a freaking ocean of ME3 impressions

Nothing against the game but Mass Effect is going to ravage my podcast feed for like two weeks straight, already dreading it

I'm all for it just for more Dana.

That's the program I use. It automatically launches and records any incoming/outgoing call. So, I wasn't planning on recording a back-up track, but fortunately it did so automatically.

By the way, I finished Mutant Blobs Attack last night and the final levels are such a terrific reward for making through the game that I somehow love it even more now. Great game.

While I would have liked to hear that... a forced recreation would lose the magic.

@Greg: Uncharted: GA final battles spoilers:

Are you talking about the quicktime events when fighting Dante and Guerrero? Not to downplay it, but i thought they were just ok. Even though i would rather have that than fighting them in bullet sponge mode and they having a health bar. I actually had to retry the guerrero one like 5-6 times, I don't know if it was harder because i was playing on hard. It only gave 2 strikes for the first 3 sections until drake is hanging from the bridge. after that any mistake is a game over. Maybe is more bearable on normal or I just suck at touchscreen QTE's

@Audie - yeah, that's what I was talking about. I'm still not sure how I feel about it yet. Hoping Mike and I can discuss it next week.

Did you have any problems with the responsiveness of the touch on those green platforms? That's my one, tiny knock on the game so far. It's touch to move those things with any sort of accuracy.

At first I did. But then I realized that I was just moving my finger too fast across the screen. As long as I took it slow, I could always maintain connection to them and still have enough velocity to launch the blob when I needed to. I actually had more difficulty with some of the wall jumping in the late levels. It got pretty tricky--and I'm not sure I ever really understood how the wall jump worked. Seems like you push into the wall, rather than away from it like most games.

Yeah, I kind of figured it out eventually but the way you had to do it kind of made it feel unresponsive to me.

I just got to the army base. Those fucking magnetized rotating saw blades are a bitch!

Zipper is in a such a bad place. People who didn't love them dismiss their games straight up for looking too much like the old stuff, and their old fanbase rejects them for not being exactly like SOCOM 1-2. They also manage to make the ugliest games of any system somehow.

The community around their games is something else too. Playing MAG online I've met both incredibly nice people and some really obnoxious pricks.

I like what I played of their games on the PS3. They're very unique and different from the jungle of shooters out there, but sadly neither really got their hooks on me.

Only problem I have with Mutant Blobs so far is the gyroscope levels, it almost feels like an input delay? Like, I start sliding my blob really slowly, then he accelerates faster than I was expecting.

Judging from what I played in the demo, Unit 13 is the best Zipper game I've played since SOCOM II. Its shooting controls are also infinitely superior to Uncharted's. I think it has some real potential on Vita.

It doesn't help that they put out a demo that locks up the Vita. After that demo crashed on me I had to hard reset my system twice before it worked.

Screw zipper.

definitely Finn, unless Dana wills him to become a girl.
Actually, it's Phynne. We want him to be the hippest kid in town!

No, no, it's Finn. And no news yet, sadly. The "call us at 7:00" instructions that the hospital gave us turned into "call us at 10:00" and then "call us at noon." They must be birthing a lot of babies today, so inductions keep getting pushed back. Let's hope they can fit us in sometime today.

It must be driving you guys insane.

Just try not to forget the hot water and the towels.

You should have applied for "A Baby's Story" on TLC (i think). Just so you can share the baby's room and the kiki's poster in all it's glory.

Oh god that's frustrating. I thought they scheduled those better. Well, maybe Finn will decide he's coming on his own and then they'll have to take you, eh?

Time traveler BLEW MY MIND as a kid when I saw it in an arcade during a vacation. Despite my pleading my parents wouldn't give me quarters to play it. It looked so cool with the holograms and everything so I just watched it cycle through the gameplay clips

Not being able to play it is the source of my desire as an adult to buy games I know I will never play. I'm still trying to fill that hole in my heart left by time travelers that summer

It's pretty crazy how Zipper nailed 3rd person controls in Unit 13 and blew it so hard on Socom4.
