They should make every Daytona 500 a night race, just saying. Also didn't realize Bristol was so soon in the schedule (only 3 weeks away)

And I'll be surprised if NascarGaf has even 1/4 as many members over the course of the season as there were tonight. There were only a few of us posting in the thread last year.

I try to keep up but once baseball gets going and Kenseth starts being all boring and Kensethy it gets tough.

I know. I know the Daytona 500 is the big draw (like the Indy 500 is for Indycar) but it would be nice to see more people posting, even if it was after the race.

I'll try and stick around, but with school and everything it's difficult to set aside a few hours to watch the race.

Seems like most of the posters on here know there NASCAR so hopefully they stick around and we can get a little community going!

My dream would be enough of us to do some fantasy NASCAR! That shit would be fun.

I wonder if it was the rain or the aero package NASCAR had that ruined the race tonight. If it's the aero, I hope they get that fixed before Talladega. I don't want another race like tonight.

Aero played a big part in it. All Speedweeks, it's been "Tap rear left corner, cause 10 car wreck."

Looks like I missed a good end to the race. I watched up until probably about half way through the red flag, but that was 4:30am here... had to leave to get some sleep before being up again this morning.

I don't mean to be rude, but wasn't there a dedicated NASCAR thread previous years? I just think 600 posts about one race is a bit too much for this this thread.

Well, I can only speak for myself but as far as NASCAR goes I only ever watch the Superspeedway races. The oval and shorttrack races just go on too long and aren't as exciting for me to watch them all week in, week out. And I'm in the UK, which messes things up too.

I don't think there's any problem with a couple of pages for a nascar race in here. This thread sits idle for months at a time usually, since the good old sub zero days!

I think it is better here than in a dedicated NASCAR thread which would be dead most of the year.

RIP. Silly bugger.

There wasn't a catch-all Motorsports thread last year.

We just used the 2010 thread for 2 years.

Not really. Other than Montoya hitting the jet dryer, it was a pretty boring race.

There was some really good racing right before that, when teams thought the rain was going to hit and they all made a push with like 45 laps left.

If it hadn't been for some F1 refugee it probably would have been a fantastic last 40.

Sounds like me trying to follow F1 as an american. Oh hey the f1 race is on tonight at 4am PERFECT.

They aren't ALL on at 4am :p The Asian/Australian races are on at decent times (for the west coast that is).

And there was a Nascar thread last year, it had under 1000 posts for the entire season I think, with several races only getting one or two mentions.

Not any F1 refugee, ez, but a Latin one. :O

Is it weird that I always pull for Junior? I really want him to have some success just because I can't imagine what it's like to have to hear the same stories about his father (as great as he was) and be constantly reminded that he is Dale's son. DW must have referenced Dale Sr. multiple times at every slight move Jr. made.

I'm really gonna try to watch more Nascar this year, I'm more of an F1/WRC guy, but I've started following the on goings more closely since the CoT change. I like the new cars better than the previous amorphous blobs they used to run.

Dont feel bad for him. He's the most popular driver out there.

I feel bad for him, because it honestly seems like he'd be happier racing on dirt ovals in some backwater town.

I hope Dale Jr steals a championship at some point and immediately retires to go do whatever it is he actually wants to do.

I think Kanhe will be a positive influence on Jr, hopefully reminding him of his younger self (even if only by 6 years). Add to that the general reliability of Hendricks stuff and I think this might be Jr's year.

re: Sticking around this year...

I will post during the following races:

Richmond
Martinsville
Daytona
Talladega
Darlington
Watkins Glen
Sears Point

The rest of the tracks suck, and Bristol is too painful. Like seeing a model/actress after her 50 cosmetic surgeries. "Why would you do that to yourself???"

I will also (naturally) be here during the true greatest automotive event in the world... the 24 Hours of Audi lapping the field Le Mans.

Feel bad for Kenseth, who broke in at the same time, is 100 times the driver Jr is and has 1/100th the fans. Thats the real travesty.
Sure, but I doubt Kenseth gives a crap. That's why I like him!

The V8 Supercar Season gets under way in Adelaide this weekend, 2 races of 250km each, on one of the finest street circuits around (I am not biased, not at all).

Race start time is 1400 Sat and Sunday, Adelaide (GMT +9.5) time. According to some quick and probably wrong calculations that makes it 0330 GMT, 2230 (fri) EST and 1930 (fri) PST.

What to expect.

Rubens Barrichello's deal to run in the IndyCar series expected to be announced tomorrow in Brazil

http://auto-racing.speedtv.com/article/indycar-barrichello-to-join-indycar-series/

The most experienced driver in Formula One history is starting over again in North America.

SPEED can confirm that Rubens Barrichello will be named to drive for KV Racing in the 2012 IZOD IndyCar Series in a Thursday press conference in Brazil.

It's believed the 39-year-old veteran will be sponsored by a Brazilian construction company, Brasil Maquinas.

Co-owner Jimmy Vasser didn't not return phone calls and is thought to be flying to Barrichello's homeland for the announcement. Tony Kanaan, who convinced his good friend and countryman to come test an Indy car twice over the past month, did not return a text message inquiring about the sponsorship.

But Barrichello is not having a press conference surrounded by IndyCar people to announce he's not going to race in the IndyCar Series.

An 11-time winner in F1 with 322 starts, the two-time world championship runner-up (2002 and 2004) with Ferrari was not retained by Williams for 2012.

With the chances of competing in his 20th F1 season looking slim, Barrichello flew to KV's shop in Indianapolis last month for a seat fitting and then tested alongside Kanaan at Sebring, Fla.

He also ran last weekend at Sonoma, Calif. where he told SPEED's Marshall Pruett: "I can feel a sense of people wanting me to be here. Altogether, I have a lot of respect for the [IndyCar Series] and want to be a part of it. Hopefully we'll get a final conclusion, but I hope we are in it."

And now he's in it.

Rubens is the biggest name to come to Indy car racing since Nigel Mansell made the move in 1993 after winning the F1 title.

I'm pretty excited for this. I hope it draws in some F1 fans, especially now that its mostly road courses on the calendar. Rubens has been on-the-pace in testing, too. Its not unthinkable that he'll be challenging for wins in his first season.

Here's some fantastic onboard video of him testing at Infineon. The new cars sound awesome, too:

I miss the golden days of CART/Indy Car. NASCAR is just...not good. Hopefully this year we will see some good fortune for Indy Car.

I'll do a big post when we get closer to the opener, but it should be a good season. New car, V6 turbos and Honda/Chevy/Lotus all as engine manufacturers. A lot of good rule changes coming as well.

The field is also probably the strongest it's been in a long time with Rubens coming in and Bourdais back full-time this year.

And no Milka Duno. :p

I've been to the last six Indy 500's. My first was Sam Hornish's last lap, final stretch pass of Marco Andretti for the win! Last year's insane ending was spectacular, with Hildebrand coming to a stop right in front of my grandstand seats. There is nothing like Indy.

Finances willing, this year will be my seventh. I'm as excited as I was the first time I made it there thanks to the new cars and the strength of the field. This will be a great year to be a fan of the series. Please, if you haven't watched in awhile, turn it on. I think the new car is going to provide for a super season!

That seems fair considering he is such a repeat offender. Would've liked to have seen more points taken away though. Ah well, being such a long season, I'm doubtful it will affect the team much anyway.
