The Macross Plus movie has one of the worst CGI shots of all time:

Are those white blobs on the left... windows?

Gintama 103-105

This wasn't as good as the Yagyu arc but it still definitely one of the best arcs yet.
Thank Sorachi that Yamazaki isn't really dead. His "funeral" was pretty funny.

Punch a helicopter in the FACE!
Quite a few badass moments in that arc, really.

Wow. Those textures.
If they can't make it work in a well integrated manner... why bother with things like textures? Look at the ingenuity of those who worked on the infamous scenes of Golgo 13: The Professional. They probably "were so preoccupied with whether or not they could", that "they didn't stop to think if they should".

I wonder if this will be less tedious than the original Yamato series: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YvMqnFLaz3Y&feature=related]
Genuinely looking forward to that series... and Hideaki Anno found some time on his busy schedule to participate on the creation of the storyboard for the opening. That deserves people's attention.

Of course, the mechanical animation looks far worse now than in the 70's tv show http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ksKiFPb9rC0&feature=related or even a 90's OVA: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQoPcobDdLY
They just don't make space battles like they used to. :( Still, it's Yutaka Izubuchi's first big project since RahXephon, so I will definitely be checking it out.

My face several times in the episodes. Vegetables never looked so much better, a lightning phoenix even and the worlds largest hailstones.

Is that a GT Robot footprints at the end?

The mechanical animation is the only redeeming feature of the original series. Sadly, it is also the only feature of it that will never again be matched.

Well, it is kind of excessive most of the time... but I think its understandable how attractive can be for many that exuberant pridefulness shown, in a similar vein to the typical military parade.

This is one of those extremely rare times where I'm not actually sure what you're saying.
So when March 18 comes around, if the new Lupin TV series is not by Koike, who do we kill?

7th, I presume?

See it as the type of series that uses the kind of symbols some people took very seriously in a prideful transitional generation of a rising nation era, that came after the miseries of the postwar one. And others obsessed that simply run with that romantic or superficial idea without knowing the kind of experiences some had to endure because of ideologies like that.

Nisemonogatari - 09

KAREN NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

God damn this show and it's hatred of
hair

I can feel my soul turning black while watching this, Araragi has a harem and is proud of it.

[Nisemonogatari 9]

This was one of those really talky Nise episodes that went absolutely nowhere. It didn't even feature this arc's titular character!

Truly, this is everything wrong with anime:

Well, it's really the writing that's at fault in this episode. I'm not actually complaining about the existence of Snail girl in this show - she's been around for awhile. I'm far more bothered that all the scenes between her and Araragi are fairly repetitive: these are the same"gags" from Bakemonogatari. If you don't have anything new or interesting to say with a character, don't include them in the story at all.

Oh, and it looks life SHAFT really splashed all their cash out on that toothbursh scene. This episode looked pretty cheap, with lots of generic camera work combined with bad editing.

I think I can safely drop Bakemonogatari now.

Diebuster 3

I still don't have a strong attachment to anyone in the cast. But this episode showed me that Gainax knows the fastest way to my heart; masses of enemies, over-the-top mech attacks, and well-chosen music. I'm gonna really like this.

XgJIh.jpg

I think this is some pretty good visual shorthand for showing both how awesome that attack was, and how overwhelming the enemy force is.

Also, that
super attacks opening holes in time or whatever the fuck happened after the Buster Smash
thing gives them a pretty good opening later on to give me cheap shots to my emotional junk.

I don't know if I should ask this... you said that for me? I've only been repeating and referencing what others have said, but I'd gladly take the gauntlet on their behalf, even if I earn for myself a permanent ban from this forum because of that.

Nisemonogatari 9

Can we blame Nise for being Nise yet?

I mean really, less pointless/outrageous fanservice should have made this a superior episode to the more recent offerings, but along with it there was generally less of everything else. Less plot, less point, less of
Karen
's hair. Araragi playing King of the Harem would be infinitely more amusing if he didn't have all the charm and wit of a pebble.

I wasn't the biggest Bakemonogatari fan I admit, but this show is making me appreciate the good it did have in hindsight.

New Prince of Tennis 6:
After shitting all over the manga in the previous episode, they actually turned out a pretty decent episode this time around. I have to wonder who thought it would be a good idea to cut Sanada's match out completely, and then give him a ton of screen time the following episode focusing on how he felt after the match that they cut out. This adaptation feels pretty poorly thought out overall, but at least it seems to be getting better. Still far inferior to the manga, though.

Well, it certainly was that kind of series, but what does that have to do with it's mechanical animation, which is what hosanna was referring to?

Well, hosannainexcelsis was talking about the mechanical animation as its only redeeming feature, and I wanted to reply with that post stating what I think makes that series attractive for many over anything else, another feature of some sorts. In a sense it even complements what hosannainexcelsis said...
romantic military 'otaku' love the attention to detail!

My wording was pretty obtuse, I must say. My bad.

Black Rock Shooter 3,4,5

A true trainwreck, I'm just watching to see how bad it will get. The teacher
is saving her students by causing them to go insane, Yuu is some sort of portal to the other world who seems to care more about BRS than Mato, and Dead Master just died(?)

I can hardly wait til the next episode, something is wrong with me. :(

And I see people talking about how fast it's going compared to the source material. Oh nisioisin.

Surprisingly not the first SHAFT show to reference Madoka.

What show would this be?

No worries; I gathered that's what you were saying. I can certainly see why Space Battleship Yamato gathered a fanbase: it taps into Cold War fears about mutual annihilation, humanity's desire to explore the vast universe, and above all Japanese patriotism, connecting the story to a defining moment of Japan's involvement in World War II. That doesn't make the show good or well constructed. As one whose soul has no Japanese nationalist sentiments to be stirred, I can't see anything worth watching the show for besides classic mechanical animation.

Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai 11
I guess it's only fair we get a yukata episode since we spent a bunch at the beach.
Besides these not friends spending time together like friends and the sudden aside to anime conventions, it was an ok episode. Liked seeing everyone having fun.
The sudden revelation about Yozora's past didn't do anything for me besides it's about time for Kodaka to finally realize it. Meh.
