GAF Plays: Mass Effect series (unmarked spoilers)

Just playing ME2 for the first time. Completed the Shadow Broker bit, and I have to say, that was one of the best bits of sci-fi gaming I've ever experienced! Also checked my time recently and was blown away to find I've spent over sixty hours in this world so far. Where did that time go?

How many of GAF saved the Normandy crew? It seems to me like doing Legion's loyalty mission is the more logical thing to do.

Oh yeah, my savegame was set up in such a way that I already did a mission after Legion came onboard. Not going to change it now though, losing crew is part of my canonical Shep.

Aaand done. Ready for thursday. Hopefully sooner.

One thing I noticed: the Geth plasma shotgun does a lot of damage, but dammit if it isn't a bitch to aim. I can point straight at enemies and the plasma bolts sometimes will fly straight around them.

Better be some great shotguns in ME3, the ones in ME2 were kinda lacking.

Doing all the side quests in ME1 takes longer then I remember, in fact I don't think I actually did half of these. Probably more time in side stuff then the main game.

I was about to do Legion's loyalty mission when the crew was kidnapped. Had to choose to do the loyalty mission or go rescue the crew. Picked the mission but Legion died anyway. :(, the sacrifice of half the crew was in vain.

Yep, I lost my crew as well. Mostly because I didn't believe that bioware actually had the balls to implement some sort of timelimit lol. Wont be making that mistake in ME3

Should complain to the manager.

Oh wow. Should've cancelled your preorder. That shit is not cool :\

It was something sort of encouraged by Gstop though, so I couldn't rage on him. I wont go into it though.

How I'll be attending the midnight launch at Gamestop:

I wish people would respect ones wish to keep spoilers at bay. But goddam, if you ever bring up, "Please dont spoil anything" it fuels them to want to spoil it or do that horrible, "Dude! Everyone dies!" crap. Can't people just appreciate the fact you want to keep the experience spoil free?

I just want to say that if I can't toggle helmet off in ME3 I'll be pissed. I hated that I couldn't take the helmet off any of the DLC armor in ME2 like Blood Dragon, or Inferno...Real pain in the ass.

^^^
You can, just like in Dragon Age 2.

What I did was I left him in the AI chamber until I finished the suicide mission. I wasn't gonna risk the crew for a robot's peace of mind. And I had Kasumi and Tali to take care of the vents anyway

Wait, what...how do I turn off the helmet for the Blood Dragon armor? Whenever I equip that armor it won't give me the option to take the helmet off.

He meant in ME3 you have the option to turn off the helmet during conversations and such.

Batarians successfully wiped out. Now to spend the next couple of days reading through the codex out of sheer boredom.

“Lanigan just ran a simulation—if these geth wake up, there’s a 98% chance that we will be dead within two minutes. I’m starting to hate Lanigan.”

“Halloween was yesterday. Lanigan ran around wearing spare geth parts. Spooked the shit out of everyone. Now I definitely hate him.”

Lanigan's awesome. :D

I did it! Finished my Insanity playthrough. With verrry minimal casualities! I only lost; Thane, Jack, Zaeed, Grunt, Garrus, Jacob, Tali, Kasumi, the crew and Dr Chakwas. Yes, minimal.

All right, thank you.

Also, leave at least two of Zaeed, Garrus and Grunt to hold the line (not in your final party). Better if you leave all three.

Good I hate those bastards, killed my family and friends and enslaved me...

bioware better put some backstory missions in ME3

They didn't enslave you. You managed to hide/get away. They did enslave a bunch of people in your colony though.

I wonder if funding those missions on the Shadowbroker ship is going to have any impact. Even if it's just news reports.

Finished my playthrough of ME2 earlier tonight. The story just feels so god damn empty, but damn if it wasn't a fun time. All paragon, everyone survived, etc etc. Bring on ME3.

Hey guys, in preparation to ME3 I decided to go back to ME2 and play the DLC that I never had the chance to, however I really don't remember what I did since I played the game on it's release and never went back to it.

How can I know what I did... and more importantly how can I tell who died in the end?

In retrospect, I regret not letting Kasumi keep the greybox data. It seemed like a very logical choice—information that could majorly implicate the Alliance, that Cerberus knows about, and the importance of gaining allies in ME3... Plus, Shepard wasn't a total douche about it.

But, they'll probably have you deal with it somehow in ME3... Oh, well.

Haha, I was just thinking that. Highly doubt it, but would be neat if true.

Well you can look through your journal and see what you have done. And to see who died, look at your Squad list and see if Kelly/Chakwas is there.

Also. Does anyone know a good ME1/ME2 overview? Like a complete one. One that even goes over side quests would be neat.

Well I finally went back and finished Firewalker, Overlord, and Arrival DLC.

I really liked Overlord, but was kinda bummed that Legion didn't say much throughout the mission since it dealt with geth. The concept was pretty cool tho, and I really felt bad for David at the end.

Arrival was meh. I wish I could have brought squad-mates around, and it was pretty obvious from the beginning that the doctor was indoctrinated by the reaper artifact. The end run to the comm signal was really pretty, especially with the Mass Relay so close.

I started a new Shepard so that I could get the incinerate achievement (first 100% completion!), and one of the things I thought of was that Cerberus was pretty stupid for not implementing some sort of control device inside Shepard. I mean the re-built him from scrap, so they could have made him their slave if they wanted to. It would have been a back-up plan in case Shepard did something the Illusive brah didn't agree with. Thought it would have been a cool little twist.

Can't wait for Tuesday!

If you spoke to Miranda after Shepard's first conversation with The Illusive Man, it's explained why she couldn't.

So I'm not far into Mass Effect, Shepard just became a Spectre and I recruited a new party member.

What's the best team comp? Garrus keeps dying.

Some weird bug popped up when I finished off the human reaper at the end.

An MMO style chat window box thing came up on the left of my screen and stayed there for the whole end sequence. Felt like it came straight out of WoW. I was like wtf?
You might have pressed the console (~) button.

hm, in ME2, if you started a new game without a ME1 save file, the Rachni queen is dead and the council was killed, right? I have my ME2 save ready for 3, but those two things really bug me.

Yes, unless you use the interactive comic (free on PS3, DLC on 360/PC) to craft a new story with the Rachni queen and council alive. If you have a 360/PC save, you can use Gibbed's Save Editor to change those variables in an existing save file, but if you've already played through ME2 I'm not sure how that will go with ME3 importing.

Hack and Biotics are tremendously overpowered, so Tali and Kaiden for now. Regardless of what class you are, you shouldn't have too many problems if you're using abilities well, but obviously if you're already an engineer, you wouldn't need Tali so much, stuff like that.

I guess the save editor is worth a try, thanks. It seems that interactive comic only covers ME1.

Almost wrapped up my 100% ME2 playthrough for ME3. Man, Lair of the Shadow Broker is such a good mission. The Dialogue is great all around. It's especially great with Liara as your love interest. I think she's probably the most well written character in the series.

I'm a soldier, I believe? Whatever the default is.

I have Wrex and Tali in my team atm, but I haven't gone into battle with them yet.
I was never particularly fussy about who I took into battle in Mass Effect, unless I was dealin' with a ton of Immunity abusin' jerkface Krogan/Mercenaries.

Kaiden's good to keep around, his Biotics and Tech abilities keep enemies incapacitated while you dish out the damage; and I always liked using his Neural Shock. If you want the best of all three aspects, then stick with Liara and Tali. Make sure to keep them out of harms way though, and keep their Omni-tool and Biotic Amps up-to-date—look out for the Savants!.

At the start, you're probably better off just bringing whoever you have the best equipment for into battle. If you play it really safe and manage command of your team fine, however, you can really bring whoever you want with you. There is only one place in particular (on Therum) that was really terrible, so prepare accordingly.

On my playthroughs, I usually went with pairs of either Ashley/Wrex, Garrus/Kaiden, or Tali/Liara.
My first play was as a soldier, and Ash/Wrex gave me a ton of physical strength. The others just felt decently balanced in general, but yeah.

but Miranda and the twins are ok?
Thank you Based God!
I'm sure her two buck teeth could survive anything.
