it's best not to watch this this while somewhat under the influence of alcohol as you'll probably fall asleep like i almost did and miss out on a very interesting (if slow) film. this was easily the weakest oshii animated film i've seen (i haven't seen the patlabor movies. also fuck avalon) but i still enjoyed it but i don't know if i would recommend it to others.

Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star of Milos

That was a lot of fun. Art was great, the animation was great, and the choreography/direction for a few of the fights was amazing--The scene atop the trains, heading into table city. I'm not even the biggest fan of FMA--having watched portions of both series, finished neither--but I'd say this could be recommended to anyone. I definitely enjoyed myself with it.

I thought it looked shit tbh.
Looked nothing like the tv anime.
Like much lesser quality.

Well, at least now the series can start for real. I'm curious to see how it goes and whether or not they can keep up the self-aware genre savvy stuff. I'm getting way too many Madoka Magica vibes when I watch this show.

It'll be hilarious to watch the online reactions if the main writer of this show, Yonemura, uses his usual super hero tropes here later on: "main hero (seemingly? sometimes for real...) going evil" (for a while, anyway) and "background character behind the heroes is actually evil" (sometimes even the final villain). Then, we'll see people bringing up Madoka all the time in comparison to this.

He has written for the "Kamen Rider" series several times, a live action super hero show for boys, and when he's the main writer for Rider he always pulls that stuff at some point in the shows and they're almost necessarily part of his movies. The main audience here is girls, rather than boys, so I'm not sure if it'll happen in Smile, but both are still children, so if it's aceptable to one it might work with the other one too.

I wonder if the third movie will show Homura (and the other two, who I suppose still haven't disappeared) fighting those new Magical Beast things, or if it'll tell a completely different story with other characters.

In concept, Madoka's sacrifice could've been a really shitty ending. Thankfully, it was handled with much precision and intelligence. The scenes with the girls from other times were great, and showed that the sacrifice was indeed the best conclusion for the character, considering how she spent 11 episodes unable to help anyone despite wanting to do so.

Homura and Kyubey are the best characters, and Mami is the worst of the main cast, despite her first death in episode 3 being the best moment in the series. Overall, though, I'd rank episode 10 as my favorite.

Good stuff.

Hah, if one of the Precures goes evil for a string of episodes, that would probably be some kind of amazing.

Given that Suite was about the girls not getting along with each other for a while, it's probably not that far away from them fighting each other outright.
