No, we don't. Tim Cook has been repeatedly fucking up. First the dud that was the 4S and now a physically thicker iPad 2S--with the same damn design again. It's like he's prevented Jony Ive from doing anything now that Steve is gone. Resting on their laurels will make Apple the next Microsoft.

Considering the iPad 3 and the iPhone 4S were in development while Steve was here, you can't' blame Cook for that.

The iPad already has a front camera, a gryroscope and micro-sim. Assuming they add a retina display and Siri then wouldn't it have all the features of the iPhone 4s?

That's not my point.

I know what the iPad got, I got both of them. My point was, that I just want more features than just a Retina display and a better back camera for at least $500. :)

I want Retina, A5X processor, 5-mp back camera sure, but I also want FaceTime HD front camera, Siri, and something that's actually NEW.

Retina was new to me on iPhone 4, I had never had a camera as good as on that phone, I had never tried out Micro-SIM before and had never had a phone with a front camera. That brought new things with it, like 4S gave us Siri and an even better camera.

I want something NEW in my iPad 3.

I might be alone here, but I'm really curious as to what the new apple tv is going to offer beyond 1080p. Some Siri would be awesome.

You have iPad2? Then iPad 3 isn't for you (as much). Apple always increment their yearly updates to encourage older upgrades or new users, not more recent purchasers. Occasionally they will blow the previous model out of the water, but that's not common. The iPhone 4 was one.

You're saying you want something NEW, keep in mind, not everyone has an iPhone 4. The iPad3 will be everything new to them.

Also, there'll likely be some functionality in software that they'll market alongside the new iPad and its new screen.

You're not alone. I'm excited too!

Got an Apple TV2 at Christmas and bought an iPad 2 myself in December.

I'm pretty sure there won't be anything new in iPad 3, but even if I don't expect it, I'm entitled to hope so, that's the funny part of it all. I waited for iPad 3 until two months ago when I caved and bought an iPad 2.

Definitely not alone.

I'm more curious about Apple TV 3 than I am iPad 3. (I own an iPad 1 and an ATV2 for reference)

Specifically, I'm hoping for an actual App Store.. essentially an IOS for ATV.

If i had to guess, they will definitely "App-ify" the Apple TV. It makes no sense I can download a bevy of channels for my Roku and the Apple TV doesn't allow that.

Are you insane, they just revealed the iPad 3's complete redesign, you think Cook isn't boiling over right now?

I'd be surprised if the people in those pictures aren't incarcerated for at least 301 days for each photograph they took.

No, I'm not insane, and I don't believe Cook is boiling over. The big reveal for the iPad 3 isn't expected to be the physical design. It never was, contrary to the iPhone 4 in which the design was the biggest thing. Not sure if your post was sarcasm, but either way I stand by my view that Apple doesn't give a shit and this won't affect anything in the least. If they managed to get a fully working model and showed off iOS with new software and the retina display, that would be something else entirely.

Anyone know if there will be a livestream? If not, I might just go on a news/media blackout (as insane difficult as it may be) and just wait for the full keynote to be posted.

Yeah I agree, especially since the biggest new feature (haptic feedback) hasn't been leaked yet ;)

I think if it were released by a post-iOS-Apple we would have seen a much more successful device.

The fact that it released without any sort of app support hurt it's sales... and the fact that it didn't make Apple much money, hurt it's chances of Apple putting much effort into it's development.

But hopefully they've seen the light.

Apple now monopolizing all shipping capacity..

While rumors of iPad 3 shipments already being en route having been circulating for some time now, we're now hearing from shipping representatives at other companies who are having a difficult time even getting their products shipped over to the United States from China as Apple's preparations for the iPad 3 launch have significantly squeezed the air freight industry.

One shipping representative told MacRumors last week that his freight broker in China has been scrambling to find space for his company's shipments, with shipping rates rising 20% in one week as Apple has snapped up available capacity at premium rates. Another shipping manager told us a similar story today, with his company being unable to find space with its usual carrier due to Apple's demand and having to scramble to find alternatives for moving products overseas.

The main thing I really want is reduced weight. Retina displays and bigger batteries would be lovely additions but I really want to be able to hold this thing for longer than 5 minutes in one of wimpy hands.

With the larger battery I can see the weight actually going up this time.

this is the dumbest story I've ever seen on the internet.

Uh, it's interesting tidbit. Raises the possibility that iPads wil be available the DAY OF, or the day after the conference, which would be pretty insane. I don't think any other company could pull that off, especially with those quantities.

Yeah, this stuff about the shipping is pretty big. It doesn't seem like there is going to be a delay if they are doing this. I hope not, I really miss my iPad and cannot wait for this one to release!

The time it takes from announcement and purchase seems to be getting smaller and smaller with ios devices. Not totally out of the realm of possibility.

That would be totally crazy, if true. I am expecting a release date of the 16th, but in my heart or hearts I really want to believe it's a March 9th release.

Hour 2 without iPad. Feeling anxious. Uncomfortable twitching in my appendages. Malaise. It's got to get worse before it gets better, right?

Interfacelift.com's already got the iPad 3 resolution in their drop down resolution list. Wow.

Guess I should start adding wallpapers to my photostream...

iMore (pinned announcement date) now claiming LTE is IN

I am in iPad withdrawal mode, so day of or even this Friday would be awesome for launch. I just hope I can buy it online somewhere without hassle.

I hate not having my iPad...HATE IT. SHIT IS WEAK!

I'm always curious how Apple presents design regressions on stage.

My guess here is they won't comment on thickness at all. if they have to show dimensions, they'll mention them briefly (and not relative to iPad 2) but they'll just shut their mouths otherwise.

The iPhone 4S has battery life slightly lower than the iPhone 4 (except for talk time, which is increased). They just put the numbers up.

You're right, get rid of the kindle. :P

Heh it's a Gen2. Honestly my setup is current a gen2 kindle and my iphone. I was debating between an iPad 3 and a MBA for a while, but decided I do need the MBA as I will be returning to graduate school part time again this fall.

A iPhone+iPad+MBA combo just seems excessive.

I've heard big phones are the new trend. Get rid of that iPhone and use a 3G iPad for VoIP calls!

That's my set-up and it's perfect for me. Each has their needs depending on what I'm doing.

Really? Do you have (or used to have) a wifi only iPad?

What is your use case for each device? The only way I can think to do it is

iPhone - on the go in areas with no Wifi

iPad - reading books, magazines. Internet stuff when connected to wifi

MBA - Schoolwork/UNIX programs I will use for graduate school. Writing my mock research papers.

... Oh god, I just justified the holy trinity. Is there any rumors to AT&T coming up with a unified data plan?

Sensible brain says 'bigger batteries for more power-hungry CPU and LCD', excited brain says 'extra cool shit that somehow hasn't leaked yet'.

I don't believe that's it, I remember a month ago a report came out that Apple originally had intended to use Sharps new IGZO single led back-lighting system that allowed for a single light source, which was thinner then the normal back light. However somehow that deal fell through and at the last minute apple had to switch to a 2 light bar system which made the system slightly thicker then the ipad 2. Energy usage for the screen is actually suppose to be the same or less. But who knows, its all speculation.

I assume the rumored LTE would require a bigger battery as well. Or is that not the case?

Aren't we talking about a few millimeters at this point, anyway?

My iPad is WiFi only. Plenty of WiFi options around when I'm not at home, but the iPad has a lot of functionality that doesn't require Internet like books, magazines, videos, games, etc. All that said, i do have a 4G WiFi hotspot with unlimited data at my disposal as well. Wasn't about to pay for a data plan locked to a single device. Works on my laptop, iPad, PS Vita, iPhone, etc.

As for cases, my iPad 1 is in the original Apple case, which has protected it just fine. When I get the iPad 3 (Day 1!) I'll probably go smartcover. My iPhone is naked. No need for a case and I have a sleeve for my MacBook Air that I use when traveling. Otherwise I just toss it in my messenger bag or backpack when just heading out around town.

So close ^^

I decided to get an iPad 2 in August but convinced myself to wait for the 3/HD. It's been a tough wait but i'm ready to dive in.

It'll be interesting if LTE will be US only.

I got an iPad 2, iPhone 4, MacBook Air and a Kindle Touch. Yet, I'm contemplating buying the iPad 3.

iPhone 4: For everything on the go
Kindle Touch: For reading books
MacBook Air: For work
iPad 2: For Skype with the family
iPad 3: Consuming / Entertainment

No he doesn't, and anyway that post was a joke. Second to Jobs, Cook was always the one most responsible for Apple's success. Apple is in good hands. The 4S was greenlit by Jobs months before it was unveiled no doubt. And it's the best selling device in Apple's history. That's called a fuck-up?

2011 - there was only 1 single apple product with a new design: iPad 2.

Iphone 4s was same as 4
MBA was same as 2010 MBA
AppleTV came out in 2010
iPod touch same as 2010
blah blah

While I'm not saying Cook isn't to blame, 2011 was not exactly setting the world on fire for design innovation - which is when Jobs was alive.

He better be to blame (more like thank). Not redesigning the exterior of everything every year is a good thing, it makes sense financially, environmentally, increases production capabilities, etc.

We can wait 2 or 3 years between complete redesigns.
