Furthest I've gotten was seeing my cart which had 8 iPads in it, so that didn't work. Then I got to a log in screen which errored me out.

16 is too small

True that. I bought a 16GB ipad. You run into storage problems if you're throwing books, videos, games etc. A game like Infinity Blade 2 is like a GB+. Same with Rage and other high-profile titles.

And can anyone answer if the new ipad uses the same cases and smart covers as the last generation Ipads?

My order locked up on the processing screen. After trying to place another order for 4-5 minutes I decided to look at my order history, and the order went through.

So check your order history

run plex on it and have a PC elsewhere in the house that can handle transcoding duties if need be.

I'm totally against the idea of needing a PC always on to convert/process video. I just want to be able to access the data and play it. It's backwards thinking IMO.

Paint a picture for me gentlemen.

-What's it like living with a 16GB iPad? Are there any problems solved by getting 32GB?

-What are the odds I break this thing if I get a smart cover and something like a Sofshell (protected back and lip around the front)?

-If I do break it, will the kind employees of the Apple store help me out without a protection plan?

A $500 purchase is quickly turning into a $800 one.

16GB is plenty unless you're a digital hoarder. Just delete apps/books/videos you're done with if you're running full. I've never filled my iPad or iPhone despite having the 16GB models.

Unsure whether to go for 4G or not. My backwater country (UK) won't have 4G until 2014, but I plan to travel a lot, and GPS is super tempting. Hm...

Have UK prices been announced?

-If you can go an extra hundred, extra space never hurts. Ever. Seriously. Rule of thumb I use is go with what I want and step up to the next size. HDD/SSD space, tv's, phone etc.

-Just don't drop it. It's solid, the only thing is the screen.

-I believe there will be AppleCare+, which covers two years and a small small deductatble if you break it for a new one (iPhone is $49)

i got a 16gb one, if its too small ill sell it in a few months and get a 32. But honestly I never once had an issue with my 16gb ipad 2 being to small. With more and more things in the cloud, especial photos and videos through photostream, and itunes match, I have no need for the extra space (yet!) Maybe for ipad 4 next year. Even if the largest games or apps are 2 gigs, I doubt ill be keeping more than 6 such apps on the machine at a time.

Also Squaretrade is a great warranty place for these things.

If you like lots of games, lots of music, get 32 GB or more. Remember higher res = higher res assets = more space for new games... If you are only going to browse and play an ample selection of music and maybe a few games here and there... You can stick with 16 GB

The only thing I can say here is... Don't drop it... You would be testing your luck every time you do, case or not.

You likely won't get much, if any.

another call from the boss w/ changes he never told me about! gah! On the upside the order finally went through. Day1 (plus however many for the free shipping) for me!

I get a step further every time. I don't even know if there are any in my cart. Hopefully I'm not adding a bunch.

I was frozen at the engraving screen for 30 minutes, when all was said and done I got an error saying I had 9 ipads on the cart. Then came 10 mins of trying to remedy that...

FWIW, I'm going white on the next Apple product I get. Friend recently got a white 4S and I am surprised by how pretty it is.

Snagged a 16GB White.

Engraved the back to say -

I'm Retina.
If you squint.

My nephews sister's family will have a great time with the iPad 2. My oldest nephew, in particular, will be stoked.

16 GB is not going to be enough room with
1) iOS overhead

And

if you

2) purchase games like Infinity Blade, Infinity Blade 2, Rage and other high-profile titles

3) Place documents, music, video, books, etc on your iPad.

4) Have a lot of apps.
2. I rarely game on the iPad, and the games I typically purchase don't require massive assets (tower defense and word games, primarily).
3. I have iTunes Match to stream the odd track, Netflix, WatchESPN, iTunes Match, Rdio, NBA Courtside, TuneIn Radio to stream all my media files over the internet. Books also take up a couple of MB, tops.
4. I have a lot of apps, but am still only half-way full on my current 16GB device.

64GB Verizon White, and buying a 32GB Wifi White for my mom, as soon as the store lets me...

I agree with you, but that means transcoding all your content to appleTV friendly formats, or having thicker clients at the playback end.

TBH these days if I was ripping my blurays I'd probably transcode to the highest apple TV compatible format and be done with it. I've skipped that for now as I don't have a bluray drive, its just my DVDs which are in some ancient ipod video format which was cutting edge 5 years ago :)

But you don't need to have IB, IB2, Rage, and other big games on there all at once. Space Management is your friend.
