That would be EA, actually. They also made the Dead Space animes and the Dante's Inferno stuff. I guess it sells.

Seriously, leaving aside the fact that region locking is stupid to begin with, region locking a trailer seems the height of bizarreness.

Here's a first look at the anime designs from FUNimation themselves. This is from SXSW at Austin. It confirms that the anime is coming out late 2012, and that it will be a 2D production from Production IG instead of a 3DCG one like Dragon Age. You can see various designs for James Vega, the Geth, and various locations, aliens, weapons, etc. The video is also available in HD so you can see the designs in a higher resolution.
Note that while the FUNimation guy says that the character designer worked on Eureka Seven, it is definitely NOT Yoshida's work, so I don't really know who he's referring to. The art looks pretty generic anyway.

Did you notice that in one of the pencil sketches, a Krogan had a battle axe? Yeah.

His visual design is utterly thoughtless. Its completely dated to a period within a few decades plus or minus from present day. I simply cannot believe that he's from almost two hundred years in the future.

You know as much as I didn't like Vega when they showed him off, after playing the game he was nowhere near as terrible as I thought he would be.
He could have been done a lot worse, sure his character design is still kinda eh.
But the charcaters himself I found was a nice little addition to the cast. Way better than Kaidan ever was.

That was weird. As soon as the narrator said "Space" I just expected "The Final Frontier..." even though obviously they wouldn't nor should they.
Unfortunately, the narrator is awful.
Vega is also the least interesting character in Mass Effect history. Why would I watch an anime about his grand adventures?
