2012 NBA Mar |OT| Knicks fans now drinking JD in straight shots

Kobe's passing MJ. he only needs to average 18ppg from now until the end of his contract, including missed games in there.

Malone will need a new contract, though. Almost certainly would take over a 4th season after this one to catch him.

If Kobe has 450 games left in him at 20ppg (starting now), he can pass Wilt. That's 6 seasons after this one...

or 25ppg for 375 games. Still in the 5th season after this one.

I'm sure he'll try.

I guess it depends on how well his body holds up, but he's down to 43% shooting this year.

In three years, he could easily be a 40% 15ppg player. I think he'd rather retire than play at such a reduced level.

he's chucking too much lately, and it's a condensed schedule. I bet his percentages will go up next season.

edit: According to the LA Times, Lakers tried to trade for Rondo last week. But, they refused to offer Pau (or Bynum) in any such trade. lol. not sure what they thought was going to happen there. Ebanks, Morris, Luke, 2 1st rounders in this year's draft for Rondo!?!? no chance in hell.

That said in a dream world, a Rondo, Kobe, MWP, Pau, Bynum lineup is scary.

How much did Kobe average in his first 2 seasons?

I think that fucked everything for him.

I just finished "the Announcement," holy shit that was so well done. The scene with Magic on the TV show with the two HIV positive kids was heartbreaking. I got a little choked up. You can't even write his story... It really is incredible.

Great win against the Czzzz today. I hate that we give up so many huge leads, but the last two minutes were more than worth it. Love watching the Czzz crash and burn.

They didn't amnesty Luke cuz they're going to amnesty MWP. They haven't amnestied him, yet, because the luxury tax hit isn't so bad right now and they needed him this season (or they believed so).

He might be gone this summer.

hahahahaha. Like Kobe is going to stop playing in 2 years while he has the scoring ranks to climb.

Do you really think they will amnesty peace?? Really? His the only guy on the team that can lock down scoring threats. You don't just amnesty that.

7.5 and 15.5

17.5 and 21.5 for per36. He lost at least 1100 because of that. He also lost 32 games due to a lockout in '99 and another 16 in this one. Well over 1000 points lost there. He'd be about to pass Wilt and then MJ to start next season. he'd only need 4 seasons after this one to catch Kareem in that case, IMO.

Would have been interesting.

Until you realize every team would have four guys standing in the middle of the paint with one guy guarding Kobe.

They do that now except 3 guys in the paint and 2 guys guarding Kobe.

But imagine the defense!

Agree. That part was tough to watch. Felt so good to see them update the girl's status that she's still alive. :)

eh, he doesn't even do that so well, anymore. Except Pierce. He owns his soul.

He's slowing down and making over $7 mil per. They gonna have to dump him.

the exact amount he from not going to College like the others on the list did.

Not Lebron who has a shot after Kobe.

MJ took 1.5 years off, as we all know, as well as another hiatus. And basically missed year 2.

And Wilt played for the fucking globetrotters. And Moses/Dr J played ABA ball.

Except all those other guys were instant impact players on their given squads.

They didn't enter a pretty talented team.

Remember when Jeffrey, Kaaaahl, Wilt and Kareem all rode the bench their first 2 years?

Oh wait...

Eh, I think your forgeting Durant......The biggest threat they have of getting out of the west alive. Yeah, mwp ain't going no where. No one else on the team does what he does, not even barnes. Trade him and were back to lakers being a soft team.

He's kind of right. They all started at around 22 while Kobe was at 17.

Of course, Karl Malone essentially never got hurt, which helped him immensely. Missed only what, 8 game until he became a Laker.

Kareem averaged 25 over 20 seasons, which is absurd. he was only over 30 3 times.

Kobe's probably around 26.5 if you ignore his 1st 2 years. That number is going to drop below Kareem's, IMO, if he plays another 5 years.

edit: take away Kobe's 1st 2 years and he's 1750 points less and 560 games behind Kareem to do it!

This year. What about next year? At some point, even his defense isn't worth the offense. Right now yeah, maybe 1 more season. No way in his final season.

But your point concerning LeBron makes more sense.

If LeBron's averages hold to a reasonable decline, LeBron would be the next in line to unseat people and he started @ 17 as well.

Difference is the Cavs were garbage and LeBron started stacking $TAT$ a lot sooner.

@Black mamba
^^ But isn't that the case for every single player? Obviously, his play will decline due to age but right now he does his job exceptionally well...i think we can all agree on that. His scoring maybe suspect but then again he wasn't brought on the team to score anyway.

Lebron is going to pass 20k points next season if he doesn't get hurt. I believe Kobe was 28/29 when he did that. Lebron will beat him by like 6 months. which is a lot when you think about it.

Lebron has been more durable that Kobe. And didn't have the 1st lockout year, of course.

This season, yes. But will he be worth it next year?

Iverson's numbers are insane.

24K points in 914 games.

He's still ranked #17 and he hasn't played in over 2 years!

he's gonna drop out of the top 20 really soon. :p

Actually, maybe just to 20.

Dirk is climbing them ranks.

Pretty crazy how AI came in the same year as Kobe and hasn't played in 2 seasons. And is well behind, now.

lol @ antawn being top 50...

Possibly not but i just think he might be atleast worth one more run(If we do get out of the west, might possibly end up facing heat and lebron)...I think he should take up more of the scoring burden though. We know he can score.

right, but in 2 years he probably is amnestied. They're going to want his contract off the books then 100% sure of it. We'll see. A lot depends on how he finishes this season/playoffs and if they make any move at all now or in the offseason.

looking around. There are only 3 players left from the '94 draft. Juwan Howard, Jason Kidd, and Grant Hill.

'95 draft has KG, Kurt Thomas, Stackhouse

Other than KG, they all might retire this season.

That's it. It'll be a while til the '96ers all retire, though.

edit: AI was a scoring machine. Knicks need to realize Melo is basically the AI of SFs. they need to simply put 4 defensive players around him at all times and let him do his thing. Only chance they got.

Oh wait. AI did pass some of the time. Well, fuck, i'm out of ideas.

And he got his team to the Finals and "u mad"ed our fucking sweep streak!

the one thing The Annoucement missed that I wish they would have touched on was the strange turn when Magic had to start dismissing rumors that he was gay by talking about all the sex he had with women. I remember the one odd Aresenio Hall appearance when he said he wasn't gay and the audience erupted as if he announced his HIV was cured or something. Just and odd point, so I guess I can see why it was omitted, but Earvin got some backlash for that. Otherwise, really well done doc.

Simmons mentioned that during the BS report that followed it

In one of his first practices with the Bulls, Parish botched one of the plays and was amused to find Jordan jawing at him just inches from his face.

“I told him, ‘I’m not as enamored with you as these other guys. I’ve got some rings too,’ ” Parish recalled. “At that point he told me, ‘I’m going to kick your ass.’ I took one step closer and said, ‘No, you really aren’t.’ After that he didn’t bother me.”

lol

also someone needs to gif Kobe bumping fists with Tom Brady from the Laker/Celtic game so I can torment Bionic with it in the NFL thread

Parish sounds like a 12 year old on the playground.

"And then I told him I'd beat him up if he ever said that to my face again!....he's not around is he? ...cool. YEAH! HE WAS SCARED! WHAT A BITCH!"

I can't wait for Parish to get on the BS Report so we can get more of Bill Simmons pulling a Chris Farley for an hour.

"Remember that time...uh, remember that time you were in the 1986 Finals, and you had that put back in Game 4 in the 3rd quarter with 3 mins left? ...That was awesome."

I would pull a Farley with Jeffrey if I met him.

"Remember that time...uh, remember that time you were a member of the Wizards, and you lead that team to the playoffs, twice in 2 years? ...That was awesome."

Scola in a Lakers uni would be comedy to me for some reason

If it meant they'd get a serviceable PG I'd be up for it.

At least he still looked like a basketball player. The Announcement had footage of Magic during his 1996 comeback.

Dear lord....

All he has to do is re-release a couple more AJs for shoe idiots to eat up, and that divorce is already paid off.

Worth every penny.

1996 Fat Magic made the playoffs.

1992 Magic won a walk-off All Star MVP.

2001-03 Jeffrey missed the playoffs.

2003 Jeffrey lost his walk-off All Star Game MVP to KG.

Kyrie is a nice kid. It's not hard to like the current Cav team. The neo-Cav fans make it hard, so as an elder statement you need to keep them in check.

Who the hell are you? And what's an elder statement? I thought that was how we described a Celtic's press conference...

Regards,

Cav's-age.

Oh please.. I am sure Parish would have slapped the shit out of him and then took 4 foot bong rips

Please. If MJ had really stepped, Parish would have layed him out.

What is worse than people talking about their NCAA Tournament brackets?

The only time I care about college sports is when Mel Kiper or Jay Bilas is explaining them to me.

Maybe I'll checkout the Final Four just to see the Kentucky kid with one eyebrow if he makes it.

Oh and yes, darkside's avatar.

Jason Kidd murdered my dog in cold blood!
Why is Beasley not getting any playing time?? Should I dump him from my fantasy team or what.

My stomach hurts just thinking about the Knicks :( I'm starting to feel sorry for D'Antoni :/
I really hope we don't get destroyed tonight. Is Jefferies playing?

Without question I think he is the problem right now. The team's defense and lack of effort at times is astounding. Yes, he has to deal with Amare and his laziness, and Melo being Melo, but the team just isn't competing.

I actually got to see some of the game and that made me sick to my stomach. Cmon Kobe, get some fucking standards!

Watching the Lakers last night we really could have used Lamar this season. We are fucking horrible after our best 3 players. Kobe can still do it, but he can only dominate for like 30 minutes now. He is that stage Duncan was at when he won his last championship, but those were solid teams and Manu and Parker took away his scoring burden. Scoring is really all Kobe has left at this point.

Oh well, we fucked up with Lamar but at least we beat the Celtics.
