Double VIP a once a year thing? I couldn't afford to go two modulars in this round, hoping for another chance later this year with the chance to earn some points.

Thought my Star Wars buys a few weeks ago would hold my itch back. WRONG
I am looking at the store right now. Figuring out if I want to order the Lighthouse creator or a new star wars set. The lighthouse one has my intrest since there are 3 builds in one box, but I wish I could order the Mini Modulars right out but I have to place a order first

Brickset says I own 21574 bricks and 49 sets. Not bad, before January this year it would have been much less bricks as only about 15 sets are from when I was younger.

rebrickable says I have 8269 in 41 Sets but there is loads that is not part of set and not listed there.
so maybe 10k in total.

Never went to rebrickable before. I stumbled on Brickset and was stuck. It is easy to use and navigate, and lots of good pics as well.
EDIT: Just clicked to Rebrickable quickly. Nice site as well. I like the parts list per set, which is quite handy.

Called my local Lego store and had them set aside a Fire Brigade for me to pick up after work - hoping that they let me use my 10% off coupon in addition to whatever the St. Patrick's Day discount/deal is, and with double VIP points on top of that. Lego seems to be good at stacking deals, so fingers crossed on my part...
I'm very tempted to sign up for the Lego MBA set 2-6 and 7-9 subscriptions as well since they're doing free shipping and double VIP but I've sunk too much into Lego recently to justify that.

There's a few various knockoffs available. But literally NOTHING (not even Mega Blocks, Lego's biggest "competitor", if you can call them that) compares to the quality of the real thing.

This is absolutely true.
My friend's mom said she heard my kids and I are into LEGO and wanted to know if we wanted the "LEGO" fire truck she had bought her husband when he had surgery. Apparently he built it once and had no further use for it.
Of course I said yes, but when she actually gave it to us it was Mega Blocks. This was my first hands-on experience with them, but I simply couldn't believe the difference in quality. The plastic was just cheap and the whole thing flexed and creaked whenever you moved it (and fell apart).
I donated it the next time Kidney Services came around. LEGO only in this house. There is no competition.

A Legoland Discovery Center opened up here in Atlanta recently. Is there much fun to be had for grownups? From the looks of the site, it looks to be geared toward really young kids. But there IS a Lego Shop there...may be worth the price of admission just for that.
Stopped by my local Lego store last night for double VIP and the 10% off coupon (awesome overlap!). Grabbed Fallingwater and a backup set of Fire Brigade. I'm actually hoping I can get my mom into Lego since she always comments on my sets when she comes by, so I'm thinking she might like FB since her father was a firefighter. We'll see how it goes!

I recently got the Sonic Boom set in the mail and quickly built it. It's a wonderful set that recently got EOL'd though some retailers still have it. I decided to buy it since it's one of the few creator sets that is actually minifigure scale and included 2 light bricks.
The box is really big and weighs almost 3 lbs due to all the big wing plate pieces.

I heard its twice a year, usually March/April and October or as some call it Bricktober.
How does everyone store and display their LEGO sets and boxes? I'm running out of room in my closet for some of these large boxes and my desk is packed. I need a dedicated bookshelf or something to display everything.

There's some pretty straight swipes out there if you know what to look for. Certain brands are better than others- I'm pretty fond of some of the stuff Enlighten makes.
I'll admit I've been on a bit of a Chinese clone brand bender as of late. I've come across quite a few sets that as far as I can tell are their own creations, rather than direct copies of previously existing lego/mega blok/ oxford sets. The military stuff has been pretty fun to build. Just be aware that there is a lot of rampant copying that occurs.
Be aware that when you start buying the Chinese brands, be prepared for imperfections. I've had a few cracked/ unfinished moldings before. Never had any missing pieces surprisingly.
On the other hand they tend to do some funky stuff of their own accord- Kazi faces are all kinds of ugly and ridiculous, and some brands tend to actually print all their pieces instead of use stickers.
My kids set up a diorama in my office of all the off- brand/ bootleg minifigs in a pitched battle with the Lego forces of darkness- trolls, dragons, aliens, robots, compys, snakemen, fishmen, various forms of undead... it brings a smile to my face as I would have done the same thing when I was their age.

Same here. I don't intend on selling my collection, so I figure the boxes are better served moving on to a new life as something else!
For super collectable sets, or for those you do plan on reselling, hanging on to the boxes is definitely a good idea though. Helps with resale value.

Cripes, the wait for the Avengers LEGO sets is killing me. My daughter wants Cap's motorcycle and the Hellicarrier for her birthday, which is May 5. I hope they're out before that.

I have a very unhealthy Lego/ block toy helicopter fetish. I can't stop buying them! I've been trying to score that Dino Attack Typhoon and am foiled at the last few minutes EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
boxes go in the loft, instructions in plastic bags with cardboard backing.
Limited display space so only a few on show at a time. Imperial shuttle, xwing and tie fighter together now, with queen annes revenge and grand emporium in the corner. Star wars will have to be broken down to make way for Tower bridge later in the year

I think they're still producing new stuff. I always see them at Walmart and the Lego store when I go!
The Lego shops at Legoland Discovery Centers are a bit of a different animal. You cannot use or accrue VIP points there because they aren't official Lego Stores or something odd like that. I don't recall there being a pick-a-brick wall at the one I was at.

hm. I was about to ask if there were any Lego fans in the Atlanta area, because I noticed there was a Lego store at Discovery Mills, probably about 30 minutes away from where I am. Thing is, if I'm not getting Lego points and they don't offer anything that I can't get offline (as it's geared towards kids), not sure if I want to go.
Anyone in GA been before?

They kept making new versions until a couple years ago. The hero factory lineup has replaced them and is the same idea of lego technic action figures.

Correct. They had 2 City sets and 2 Ninjago sets as well. The Ninjago polybags are only 3.47 though. They had 2 other Star Wars sets as well 30058 STAP and 30053 Republic Attack Cruiser. The cruiser has been available at Target for quite some time though.
