Bloomberg Rumor: Xbox 720 unveiling at E3 2013, launching in the same year

It never will. It's always the software you sell the consumer
Should have been more specific and said initial consumer adoption by early tech adopters.

Yes, it's software, but to this market the power differential is part of what can make that software appeal.

I suppose Nintendo may be relying on rapid mass market adoption though in response to the tablet.

So, Wii U will have E3 for itself... Microsoft and Sony will do nothing, not even mention that they will have a new console which consumers should be hyped and wait for, instead of buying Nintendos new console Wii U.

Yeah... I don´t know what they are selling, but I don´t buy it. Sony might not show anything(expect them to mention something though), but I fully expect Microsoft to show something about the next Xbox at this years E3.

Wii U shouldn't be treated as some guaranteed juggernaut that Sony/MS have to react to. It's up to Nintendo to convince customers to start next-gen with them. They might have shortages, high price point, lack of solid launch titles or third party support, etc.

Microsoft and Sony will most likely drop the prices of their consoles this year and release huge games (Halo 4, God of War 4) so they'll be just fine IMO.

can not be true, unless halo 4 wont be on the xbox 360

Unless I'm misunderstanding, you can't honestly still believe that Halo 4 is a "Twilight Princess" endeavor? It's a 360 game, and it's coming this fall.

MS and Sony's e3 conferences are going to blow. Nintendo will steal the show again.

Halo 4 and God of War 4 will be there.

Speak for yourself.

Wii UUUUUUU Wii UUUUUUU Wii UUUUUUU! Choo choo!

Most first gen AAA Wii U titles not made by Nintendo will be 360/PS3 ports/port-ups. Their megaton would be a version of RE6 with the inventory always available on the controller. :p

This is exactly what I argued in past NextBox threads (that MS would be insane to undercut 360 sales now while they're still doing so well) but I still think that MS will at least drop hints about the 360 successor at this year's E3 to take some of the air out of the big Wii U re-reveal.

I am not saying Wii U should be guarenteed as a juggernaut or not. I am just saying, will Microsoft and Sony as a business company take the risk of letting Wii U have all the spotlight as the only next gen console? I don´t see it.

When the X360 released, we knew that Nintendo and Sony had a new console that would be released in one year. I have a hard time believing that when the Wii U is released we won´t know if there is a new Xbox and PS4 announced for release in the near future.

It all depends on how powerful it is.

If it's 0% more powerful than current gen, they'll have no pressure.

If it's 20 or 30% more powerful, they may have some pressure, but not much.

if it's twice as powerful, they'll have more.

And so on.

Isn't this kinda what everyone already assumed? I can't see it possibly being this year and I don't think they would let it go 9 years without a replacement.

What the almighty fuck are Microsoft going to show at E3 this year if this is the case? They've pretty much shown their entire hand at the Spring Showcase, meaning their E3 could very well be an hour and a half Halo 4 demo.

I can believe 13, unlike 12.

Still think 14 is possible though.

I agree, 13 seems perfect for MS considering they don't have anything notable planned next year for 360, except for maybe a Forza title. E3 should tell us everything we need to know, I'm betting there won't be many core titles present.

It's gone on wayyyyyyy too long.

I love that this gen has been going on for this long already. What is the next gen going to bring us? More AA? Better textures?

I am playing BF3 on the PS3 and the graphics look fucking great. I am perfectly fine with the current level of graphic fidelity. Uncharted 3 looks amazing. BF3 looks amazing.

I have never pumped this much online hours into a console before.

Between the 360 and PS3, we have a crazy amount of AAA titles plus fucking amazing indie titles and downloadable games on XBLA and PSN.

One of the best generations for me. I am in no rush for the next gen.

New Call of Duty.

I am not joking.

Wow, 9 years. Even if it never catches up to the Wii LTD sales I'd still think that the 360 is one of the most successful consoles of all time if it makes it to that many years while still being a relevant player in the market.

That's longer than the GB's lifespan before a successor isn't it?

Wait. People are surprised there won't be a Xbox 720/PS4 unveiling this year? I always thought that was a forgone conclusion. The 360 is doing great at the moment; no need to damage it by announcing a successor. And Sony has Vita to worry about. Sony said taking attention off the PSP and on the PS3 (can't blame them; the PS3 was floundering hard and it threatened to take the entire gaming division down with it) was a mistake they said they won't repeat with the Vita.

PS2 says hi.

I would also be okay with a 2014 release, as much as I would rather a 2013 release. It will give Microsoft more time to refine the hardware. I don't them to rush like they did with 360 and we end up with RRoD 2.0

That's for sure.

2012 is the year of PS3. ;) But yeah, if this generation lasts another one and a half years I can see core gamers turning away from consoles and going back to PC. And then they won't buy a 720 the year after that.

Halo 4, Call of Duty 9, Forza, Non-game related XBL stuff, and Kinect crap. Announce a price drop an the end of the conference and they're set in NA for another year.

lol, those "core" gamers will be lining up outside a local store waiting for the midnight launch of the next Xbox next year.

Since this is a rumor instead of a confirmed statement, we might as well make it separate.

They sort of did this with the Xbox 360, since their MTV event was in the same month as E3.

Lol, Elijah Woods and Madden. Memories. Already 7 years!?

Momentum. You can't just wait until your sales take a dive and then announce next gen stuff, you have to do so while the old platform is still selling. Just take a look at Nintendo and how much it is costing them.

So next Xbox is pretty much this: 2 GB, AMD 6xxx GPU, no optical disc, slightly more powerful than Wii U and releases in late 2013? All these rumours are starting to contradict themself. We basically have a new one every week, it's ridiculous. And this is supposed to go on for another one and a half years? Something feels very wrong here.

And that is fine. Nobody would be forcing you to buy a new console at launch but for many of us, that is what we do want. An opportunity to not be gaming on hardware that will be almost a decade old. You can continue playing this generations consoles and buying games released for it but I am tired of the same games just with sequels. I'm tired of hardware that limits the visual quality of games released in the way current gen does. I'm tired of the same experience of PSN and XBL. I'm tired of having PC releases being limited due to the limitation of consoles.

Amen,

though I agree with the rest as well.

Sounds like a perfect plan for me.

2012 - Buy the WiiU
2013 - Buy the Xbox720
2014 - Buy the PS4

A nice spread.
No way Sony releases PS4 in 2014, unless they want to be behind again. Unless you mean you personally won't get a PS4 till 2014?

I'm not taking anything away from the PS2 but it spent this gen as a budget/backlog system wheas the 360 is likely to still be getting big release games in 2013.
My bad then. There were 9 years between the release of the GB and the GBC, and 11 years between the GB and GBA. It'd take another year to beat out the amount of years from GB to successor, but for a home console that is quite a feat.

Here is Microsoft's E3 presentation for 2012: Not even 30 seconds in we will have the Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 on stage demo, then we will see that Crytek Kinect game, something related to GTA V, Forza World, Fable Journey, an unannounced 3rd party game, and then Halo 4. Don Mattrick will come out clapping and smiling and then say, "Wow! Did you see those great games. Even seven years into the Xbox 360 there are still amazing gaming experience coming out." A montage showcasing some Fall 2012 XBLA games as well as two to three on stage upcoming Kinect game demos. Some slight info about Xbox Live on Windows 8 integration. There will be some circle-jerking about their #1 sales ranking for the past year and the current number of Xbox Live gold members will be told. Additional partner apps for the dashboard will be revealed and then the Xbox 360 will have a price cut, the $200 SKU will now be $150 and the $300 sku will be $250. Don Mattrick will end by saying, "As you can see we have the best lineup ever in Xbox history and 2012 is sure to be another great year. Thank you for watching this presentation and have a great E3." Claps will be heard and then press will leave.

But Crytek's Kinect game, Ryse, has been delayed for next-gen Xbox.

Missing Windows 8 Xbox integration.

Wow. I can seriously imagine their conference going like this to an absolute T. It just shows how poor their previous conferences have been. Boring and extremely foreseeable.

I never understand why people are in a rush for new hardware.

The best years of a console's lifespan are the later ones, where devs know what they are doing. Look back at the first year of games for the 360/WII/PS3- that's the kind of quality we'll get for the first year with new consoles, just with better graphics, as devs struggle to get their heads around what they have to play with. And probably Kinect/Move built in. Shudder.

It'll be tech demos galore that look nice and have all kinds of motion control/community functions, with early adopters getting shafted as usual. Why be in a rush to get there?

Sure, it might be wise for MS and Sony not to let Nintendo have a year or more head start, but last year was a fantastic year for games, and there's plenty of good stuff coming up this year too.

Don't forget the ol'

'Everything from this point on will release exclusively for xbox three sixty!'
