Dota 2 Beta Thread: [Brewmaster]

Pretty much. I think this guy just needs to grow up. Be it through failure in dota 2 then ._.

It does sound a lot like the SC -> SC2 arguments to me, people claiming multiple building selection ruins the skill in the game? Really. It's an improvement in the way the game is/can be played in my eyes, yes it will have an impact in the competitive way of playing, but it's a necessary improvement thinking of the future of the game. You can't hold on to outdated game mechanics when there's a new, better solution available, no matter how many purists claim you should. Competitive players will find other things to improve on.

I don't think you can compare the Dota to the SC transition.
Starcraft tried to be a lot different, whereas Dota is supposed to be the same game in a new engine.
There will always be arbitrary decisions about game mechanics, for example you see LoL devs saying that denying is an outdated mechanic. On the other hand I'm a fan of MBS and bigger control groups.

You're right in a sense, but I don't think Dota 2 will ever be the same game as Dota, even if they tried to go for a close to 1:1 conversion. However, I don't think the differences in the engine are anywhere near the level mr. KuroKy is claiming ("Dota 2 is simply right clicking towers and heroes due to smaller map, better animations and much easier pathing"), guess he has a nostalgic spot for the good old WC3 Dota. It sounds like crazy talk to me, though. Maybe if they removed any sort of pathing altogether, so your hero only moves to the exact direction you click, then it would be a more skilled game!

I am pretty sure there is virtually no way to make it exactly like Dota in every little detail. The two engines are just too different. And on a competitive level every single detail can make a huge difference.

Likewise, Blizzard would have been unable to remake SC in the SC2 engine without changing at least some details that influence how the game is being played on a competitive level. And I am sure at least some of the differences between SC and SC2 are caused by engine characteristics.

Ye, I call bullshit on that. Especially in a game like Dota.
Just take a look at all dueling fps games.

Unless by huge difference you really don't mean huge difference.

Tidehunter = angry noob hero
Kunkka = boss pro hero

People say that there is less than 1% size difference between hon/dota 2 and dota 1 maps, to me it sounds like the guy is bitter about dota 2.

I haven't really heard anyone else from the pro scene come out and say these things so...

god I hate ursa.. any good counters for him?

Beastmaster. His Boar slows him so your team can kite him, you can harass him with Axes, your hawk gives sight of the Roshan area and his Ultimate stuns him for an eternity, even if he has BKB. Ghost Scepter and Force Staff are very helpful too.

[Dota 1]DK vs. Panda

Sniper was picked last game, but it is fucking sniper so ofc that team lost.
Wow, the quality is quite.. something. Still watching though.

Randomed furion today and wow I felt bad for the farmed morphling who really was the mvp and deserved to win. But still he couldnt because of furion ridiculous pushing power, not that im gonna throw the game for my team mates because of that.

But they really need to nerf him.

Did you die 11 times and still farm up 5 items in 25 minutes? Dat op furion

Didn't they just nerf him. Leave him alone

stop complaining about the balance and get better..

And if you guys are fed up playing vs some heroes, just play captain mode and ban them

All the Dota2 cosmetic items in the game at moment, http://optf2.com/d2/items

Can buy items to increase drop rate, get out of low priority, and also looks like you get temp access to Jugg. dog courier if you open a crate/play enough games in a week.

I'm in love with Windrunner. She's so chipper, even when I'm like 0/9/0.

I hope she has some tasteful cosmetic items when this game is out for realsies. I will give you my monies, Valve.

Valve is so smart, people ragequit, oh you want to remove that time? 10 bucks please, but your bad reports still stand and so do your abandons.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Great way to keep the game free and to fund Valve for the next 50 years in general.

Yeah, at first I hated the idea that you could just pay to get our of your punishment but if you didn't learn to behave you'll just be back where you started but five dollars poorer.

I see the Shitty Wizard is a courier. Was wondering what that would end up being.

A whole new meaning to 'mad buybacks'.

And people thought TF2 made a lot of money, this is gonna be insane.

Just as planned.

I like it, more money for Valve and it comes straight out of ragequiters pockets. I love it all of those TF2 items like secret saxton, crates (now treasures), backpack expanders etc are gonna come in Dota 2 as well. The Drop Rate Increaser items are also pretty sweet. Wonder if they will put that in TF2 as well then, I can't imagine how much money Valve is gonna make from all that.

Its probably going to work, if there is anyway you can get people to stop being assholes and play nice, its going to be through money.

I hope it's true.

I wonder if all the commends will turn into some sort of rebate for keys or something as well. Applying the TF2 model to Dota certainly will be something to watch develop.

Probably not, most of the drops in TF2 are garbage and just get turned into metal. With Dota pretty much everything is going to be cosmetic and more 'valuable'.

Metal is worth a lot in TF2 though, a lot of things get sold for refined. If you have a double drop rate it means a lot more metal, and maybe even lucky hats. And besides, I'm sure a lot of people would like the double drop rate regardless. Enough people will pay for it.

For all the hype around ArtStyle returns, I can't say he has impressed me with these last games as Sand King yesterday and today, going in and his team not following a couple times now.

FEELS GOOD.

Also now seeing all those cosmetic items, I wonder if that's why they removed Vengeful Spirit's mask, a lot of people liked it but then it was suddenly gone. Seems like a nice item to sell in the store.

I constantly report people if they are rude or get overly angry. I've actually played with a higher percentage of people who are well behaved even if they are losing. Sometimes there is just one bad guy in the game which isn't too bad. Everyone loves to be the bad guy. But this time it won't pay.

I think there should be some type of incentive to giving people positive reviews. If someone is friendly I will give them a good review but I'm not sure what purpose it serves. I think of myself as friendly in game but I have no ratings. Makes me a little depressed to think that people hate me.

I guess rewards for giving out good reviews is abuse-able. That said, I'd love to see a testimony system wherein people are allowed to post a short blurb on a player for good reviews for all people to see. More personal compliments like that would promote better behavior without resorting to tangible rewards.

That is a neat idea, but it would inevitably be abused by griefers who "commend" someone by insulting the shit out of them in public. It'd have to be something that is somewhat heavily moderated to ensure nothing like that happens. U:

I suppose it could be self-moderated, by the player being commended!

Yeah, the person receiving the review would have ultimate say in whether it would be posted or not.
