Mass Effect 3 SPOILER THREAD: LOTS OF SPECULATION FROM EVERYONE

Haha. They're probably thinking of the cheapest way to do this. Cutting out everything following the space elevator and throwing in epilogue cards instead?

But to be more serious, if they actually wanted to fix it (I don't think they do), they won't have to do a whole lot. Cut out everything about and following the space elevator and replace with quick flashes of the force you brought in, definitive Reaper victory or loss, definitive Shepard death or life, funeral/celebrations, and a brief epilogue (hell you could keep the stupid creepy grandpa if you want to). The art assets and animation library is already there and VA is the only thing they need to tackle. Lance Henriksen would get the brunt of the work as he'd probably get a whole speech, while every other squadmate only needs two to three lines of dialogue.

Started a new game to mess with the choices a bit. I finally was able to complete Kasumi's sidequest as it didn't glitch this time. Would have preferred for the quest to glitch again after seeing what it was all about. Definitely one of the worse cameo in the game.

Her reason for not joining you is because she doesn't want to get involved in the war instead choosing to use her graybox to look at her dead boyfriend while thinking about Jacob? At least the writers tried to come up with better reasons for the other ME2 characters.

The more I play the more I notice the weird/weak writing in some parts.

Hmmm I love the indoctrination theory. It gives bioware too much credit, but it is the perfect opportunity for BW to have a do-over. And even if they never thought of it, they can still take credit. "Oh yeah, that's what we meant all along."

This is exactly why I hate it, hahaha. Bioware doesn't deserve that credit, heck not even the ability of digging themselves out of their hole. It was all a dream is as much of a cop out of an ending as it is now, I don't know why people would want that, if only because it gives you the possibility of shoehorning whatever ending you want which I don't see the point to.

In fact, I don't even know why people would want any other ending, especially as DLC, c'mon! To me the series is done, in the most Neon Genesis Evangelion possible way and that is both ironic and hilarious. I don't find the ending bad in a "we deserve a better ending" way, I found it bad in a "what the fuck did I expect from Bioware" resignation and I feel people should do too. :P

Maybe I'm indoctrinated, but...

Hope rising.

I hate to crush your hope, but new ending DLC would be at best loosely on the drawing board. Keep in mind, going by their other statements, they're still taking input on the changes.

So there's no way it would have advanced to the point that it would require the whole team.

This is either multiplayer DLC or Take Back Omega.

Ah yes, Mike Gamble. We have dismissed those claims. The same Mike Gamble who made these claims about ME3 pre-release:

360 Magazine: How on Earth are you going to end Shepard’s story in a satisfactory way for everyone?

Mike Gamble: There are many ways to end Shepard’s story, right? I wouldn’t necessarily say ending Shepard’s story means one thing or the other, like life or death or whatever. It comes to a conclusion and how you get to that conclusion.

There a risks involved in how you get there or how you completely not get there. As in the previous games, you’ll make a decision and you’ll see the outcome and there are huge risks to all of those decisions. It’s not cut and dry.

There are many different endings. We wouldn’t do it any other way. How could you go through all three campaigns playing as your Shepard and then be forced into a bespoke ending that everyone gets? But I can’t say any more than that…

"I honestly think the player base is going to be really happy with the way we've done it. You had a part in it. Every decision you've made will impact how things go. The player's also the architect of what happens."

Whether you're happy or angry at the ending, know this: it is an ending. BioWare will not do a "Lost" and leave fans with more questions than answers after finishing the game, Gamble promised.

"You'll get answers to everything. That was one of the key things. Regardless of how we did everything, we had to say, yes, we're going to provide some answers to these people."

In an inteview with NowGamer at Gamescom, we asked if BioWare was taking risks with Mass Effect 3's plot, including a negative ending in which the Reapers win.

Gamble simply said , "Yes". We asked him again to confirm what he had just said and he said, "Yes".

I think the game would have to be patched, at least on consoles, to actually support a DLC ending. I'll bet you it's hard-coded to only really add new systems and planets since they weren't planning on doing anything else.

I don't get the Marauder Shields meme, what am I missing? Do people actually think there should have been an end boss?

No, no one thinks that there SHOULD have been an end boss.

It's a humorous take that the last antagonist you fight is Marauder Shields and that he was the true hero of the game, trying to stop you from seeing a shitty ending.

I almost kind of hope it's multiplayer DLC just to see a new explosion of rage from the fans.

Anyone that pays for alternate ending DLC should be ashamed of themselves.

I probably will

I know I will, I spend so much hours with the franchise that I'll pay for real closure and not something Walters thinks is AWESOME.

Not holding high hopes about that twitter, it's probably multiplayer stuff.

I guarantee that the first bit of DLC they roll out is going to be multiplayer DLC. I'm sure they had a roadmap for DLC rollout well before the game ever came out, and MP DLC makes sense as an early release to allow for more development time for the single-player stuff.

Haha. You know what? I'll laugh my ass off if they release a "new and improved" ending as a separate planet choice that you could choose instead of Earth or the Cerberus Base.

Again, for all we know that could mean that sat around the office drinking beer.

Or, you know, multiplayer DLC.

I'd just be happy to hear that they're working late nights trying to implement a fix for the ME1 -> ME2 -> ME 3 face import bug. It'd be kinda' nice to be able to play through the game and experience the bizarre ending and the resulting confusion/disappointment with MY Shepard that I made back in 2007.

It may be superficial of me- but my original Shepard was sleek and cool looking. I was forced to try and remake him for ME3 because of the bug, and the best I could do was some stranger that oddly resembles Matthew Broderick. Just doesn't feel right playing Ferris Beuller and the Space Brigade. I want my Shepard back.

This is just cruel. lol These guys are not going to change the end of the game. We might as well just get over it. Even though I'm completely disgusted by how Bioware has handled this whole end game situation, I can also give them props. This series was a very ambitious undertaking, and though it is far from perfect, it was an incredible ride. For all intents and purposes they delivered on a lot of what they promised. The ending was maybe the most bitter gaming related pill I ever had to swallow, but there is nothing else I can do at this point besides not support future Bioware ME related games and dlc. At this point I think we all need to realize that this ending we have, is it.

So after finally completing the game, I can't help but feel that all this ending fiasco is blown way out of proportion. Am I the only one here that is indifferent to the ending?

Did it live up to the promises? Not really, but given a lot of the complaints I fully expected that it would end up being a Jacob's Ladder style ending in that Shepard never really woke up off the lazarus project table at the beginning of ME2 and it was all a dream before she went brain dead and the game basically ends with the reapers winning or every person/species i let die actually survived to win the fight against the reapers in Shepard's honor.

BBB complaints? FTC violations? Way to get my hopes up guys...

God yes. Mass Effect as a series is amazing, and one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had. I'll just probably never buy another Bioware game. Not out of bitterness or some attempt at "punishing" them; I just don't want to get heavily invested in another Bioware game universe only to have them get bored at the last minute.

Does the producer know what bespoke means?

I think it is very obvious that he does.

But seriously, I think he meant that we wouldn't all get the same ending, with simple lip service paid to our decisions, or tailoring an off the rack jacket, so to speak.
What we got was the former, without any lip service at all.

I just finished.

I've thoroughly enjoyed 35+ hours of this game just to have them take a dump over my face for the last 10 minutes.

I'm done. Fucking done.

I guess this is where I welcome you to the support group. Hugs for everyone.

edit: Damn, see how supportive?

Don't worry, Mike Gamble's got our back (lol)

How? I don't understand it. Bespoke denotes highly custom and one-off. How can something be bespoke if everyone gets it? Then it's not bespoke.

He says we wouldn't want to force people into a bespoke ending that everyone gets. I just can't understand.

My first sentence is a joke. He obviously misunderstood the word to be exactly the opposite of what it was. Therefore I said of course he understood it, because if he meant literally what he said then his statement was true.

The second sentence was just my speculation on what he thought bespoke meant, which is that it meant slightly altered. This is not the common definition of bespoke, but it is certainly a possible understanding. Then I also turned this into a joke (so I don't cry) because even if that was his understanding, we didn't even get those custom tailored touches, we all got the same, ill-fitting jacket from the rack.

I think SerArthur was joking, as it is a very obvious contradiction.

Edit: there ya go.

Ya no. Ending was fucking horrible. No closure equals rage.

Oh. Well then. Carry on with your speculations.

BTW, I'd be fine with "no closure." I'm fine hanging off cliffs. The factory model of game production means we only have to wait 18 months. But there is no cliff hanger here really. They destroyed the cliff.

These mother fucking guys. I still don't believe this was intentional, ie the indoctrination theory, or even something they plan to rectify completely but man I wish it were and this kind of stuff gives me hope, but I don't trust them at this point to fix this right or at all. Stop messing with my mind BioWare.
You are hoping that the developers intentionally gave you a trio of shitty endings with the sole purpose of paving the way for a DLC that will include a better ending?
