Mass Effect 3 SPOILER THREAD: LOTS OF SPECULATION FROM EVERYONE

What are those weird pod things just before the main battery? I've wondered since ME1 but never asked. They look padded inside like they're made for people to sleep in or something, but that would be weird. What are they?

did you notice he brought the wine shepard got him in the beginning?
I noticed it through his slurred speech.

I just remember the video and how he "laws" Shep. I'd never settle for that.

They're sleep pods. I don't think it's that weird since it is a military ship.

I think that's exactly what they are. Shepard gets a real bed since he's in charge of the ship, but everybody gets strange pod sleep.

Oh but... there's that room with regular beds. Why not just use those? There's something about sleeping in pods in a hallway just before the main guns that I find really disturbing.

So I finally finished the game, and was a little surprised to find THAT was the ending that pissed so many people off.

Now, I think it could have been executed better, but the general idea of it seemed rather obvious to me from the moment
You speak to the Reaper on Rannoch, just before it dies. Where it talks of how the Reapers are necessary for organic life to continue. It seemed obvious that there were forces in play that created the Reapers to that end, and that cycle of life and death was immutable.
Do you realize the mass relays explosions will destroy all nearby civilized star systems.

Plus, all lives on Citadel were killed by the Reapers.

Not enough beds, I would assume. I think the first game's codex mentions them. There's a hotspot near them that adds the respective entry.

You don't have to spoiler anything in here btw unless it is say something from another game.

But we had assumed that already, it didn't need to be laid out really, of course something created the Reapers in the first place which became more evident in ME2 when they were making a Human Reaper out of humans and we discovered that all Reapers are made from different races as the cycles have gone by.

The reasoning behind it is stupid though, they kill us so we don't get killed by synthetics because synthetics are inherently evil to them, but they themselves kill almost everyone while keeping a few million going in each Reaper as some sort of synthetic/organic memory of said race.
It's stupid, and goes against what we know in the games, the only real problem synthetics have really been in the games are the Geth, and the only reason the Geth were a problem is because the Reapers made them a problem.

It is all ass backwards writing that moved from one writer and was taken up half way and finished by another who according to some sources changed what the cycle and the Reapers were about.

So, what are your thoughts on Garrus and Tali hooking up in the end guys? D'awwww /Trollface

Funny little alternative bit, had to look it up on YT as of course it doesn't happen with a maleshep Tali LI.

Might not have ever seen it even otherwise, annoying trek to the back and then the load. I put up with the longer load time out of necessity when waiting for Liara's room (or that aggravating "scanner"-load when trekking back to the consoles section of the main floor).

This thread is strong ..

I wonder if it is because they did the shepard/kaidan romance back in ME1 or only because shepard is a female in the video
Stop speculating. Obviously two men can't love each other. :p

I haven't seen the romance with Cortez, maybe there's some hope in that one.
Though he's a butterface.

You're right.

Like I said, I think it was handled clumsily.

I think the notion of the cycle being immutable, and that organics predisposition towards chaos and war needed to kept in check by greater forces is an interesting premise. It's a premise that the Mass Effect games back up, since the entire lore of the universe and most of the interactions with other characters have to do with thousand-year grudges, wars, racism, power-struggles.

After three games of watching these races fight with each other and hate each other, a part of me was like 'Hell yes, blow this shit up and start over.'

I don't see how anyone would go for the Cortez love option when all he does is cry about his dead husband. That would've been weird and annoying.

also, remember that dying sun when you're Haestrom in ME2?
caused by something called Dark Energy?

i can't believe they just shut this plot point. even killed Kal'reeger in ME3.

Almost every romance option in the game has a butterface or is filled with botox which probably partly explains why Tali is so popular.

Seriously, it was such a downer. I just wanted to put him out of his misery, not date.

Summary of the PR Defense ect. This is a war. We all lose though...

And I can see the "ending sucks" discussion is dying down in this thread. Don't give up!
The ending sucks is just rage full thing that people get over. However, I think there's still discussion on the flawed logic, and the way the end had intentionally been set-up to lack explanation.

edit:

dont' worry, his face is one thing you can't see in the youtube video

No wonder the graphics are so dark.

I have just experienced the abomination that was the Mass Effect 3 ending. I will now write a better one in less than 20 minutes.

Everything plays the same up til you are running toward the beam. The camera pans back and you see the entirety of your team mixed with various species' best forces storming the beam. Depending on your galactic readiness, various teammates fall dead and the rest are merely falling behind.

Anderson, also in the chase, announces that the beam is beginning to retract. "They know we are close!"

You, Shepard are the only one to make it into the thinning beam of light.

Aboard the Citadel, you meet the Illusive Man at the control panel. You then debate with him. He explains that the two of you can rule the Galaxy, as the heads of humanity, by controlling the Reapers. "The power is at our fingertips Shepard!" He goes on to explain that the Crucible/Citadel combo allows you to reprogram the Reapers permanently but it also is able to remotely disable all reaper tech, the Mass Relays included. "We will loose everything!" The Illusive man claims.

You then can paragon/renegade him into stepping away from the control panel. Paragon he shoots himself in shame. Renegade you shoot him clean. The third option on the right of the decision wheel allows you to agree with him.

You then decide the fate of the galaxy. Take control of the reapers and enforce your will, or you destroy them.

If you choose the Renegade option of controlling them, a cut scene unfolds showing a signal bounce across all Mass Relays, and showing Reapers across the Galaxy shutting down and becoming lifeless, then slowly awakening and ascending to space to the cheers of civilizations everywhere.

If you choose to destroy them, the same cuteness plays except they don't ascend to space and lay there lifeless. The Mass Relays also go dim after the signal is broadcast. The same cheers are seen across the Galaxy.

Screen fades...

Now aboard the Citadel, the repairs are under way with various species seen helping eachother out. You sit in the human embassy next to Anderson and James Vega enters the room. "They are ready for us, Commander."

Anderson looks at you "Better not be late to your own award ceremony."

You enter the Citadel Tower where cheers are loud from the many species present. You are presented with some award by the council, now with Anderson reassuming his post. They announce that due to the allegiance you command among the races, you have been given the authority to pick and appoint one additional counsel race/representative.

You make your decision.

After the counsel dismisses, you are reminded to attend the celebration in the presidium commons.

You then take control of Shepard at the party and make your way around the celebration speaking to all your surviving squad and other people of importance. Through these conversations your actions are referenced, such as if you cured the genophage or not, if the Geth were spared etc. Depending on those decisions, it is revealed that the Krogan are being brought to a new planet, much resembling their homeworld before the nuclear wars. The Geth are still helping the Quarians settle their homeworld. EDI informs you that work is already underway by the best engineers in the galaxy to restore the Mass Relays, and while they are still down, communication between the worlds remains intact. The Citadel remains the center for galactic politics and Earth is now populated by a large number of all the species who took part in the united fight, seeing as they are for the foreseeable future stranded on Earth and the Citadel.

You have touching conversations with all your teammates in attendance and are also allowed to reveal your future to them. You are able to decide to return to Earth, or take up a political position of influence on the Citadel. You are able to invite your love interest to accompany you wherever this decision takes you.

You then make your way to the exit of the Commons and the camera takes control. It pans across showing Joker dancing with EDI, Tali drinking through her emergency delivery system (straw), and the rest of your squad doing their appropriately touching thing.

Credits roll and a post credit scene is of you with your love interest (if they survived) on Earth or at home on the Citadel. Witty banter ensues.

DLC #1:
You are back on the Normandy six weeks later. Joker informs you that he hopes your time on Earth/Citadel was relaxing as the Mass Relays are up and running and you are needed. Admiral Hacket consults you from the vidcom informing you of the state of the Galaxy. A rogue Krogan general is plotting an attack against whoever and there are other problems facing the races. Yada yada yada...

Wow! These people are crazy. Too bad these kinds of ridiculous internet dwellers are going to diminish the disappointment of reasonable people so Bioware can just brush it off by 'very vocal minority etc.etc.' mentality.

Fans demanding the story to be redone is terrifying idea that i hope storytellers stay far away from. Yes, ME3 ending is terrible and baffling, but at least hopefully it's what the writers intended it to be.

Aren't Liara, Jack, and Miranda based on real-life lookers though? They usually look pretty good in game, though even if they didn't I'd be kind... Jack is a special case, great face/eyes, but ignoring the only-in-a-videogame stuff going on with the rest of her body.

Is Jack a real face?
It wouldn't surprise me, because it might be the best one.

Liara is, but I don't really see a ton of resemblance. I also didn't think her model looked very good until the Shadowbroker DLC.

Miranda looked pretty bad in 2, a bit better in 3, but again, not much like the face model.

Samara is a real face, and probably looks the most like the model.

I assume a scan would have been too expensive for what they wanted to do with Tali, and they probably didn't want a generic modified character creator face.

Jack is obviously based on Angelina Jolie's face. Can't you guys tell? Billy Bob era Angelina.

So I just completed the game and got the merge/evolve ending. Haven't been keeping up with this thread but it seems like the best ending to me. After watching the other endings, I thought the very end in which we see Joker and EDI emerge from the ship in paradise akin to Adam and Eve was pretty cool. I don't know how they're going to have kids, but I don't really care. Her previous name was Eva as well, it just seems to come together more than the destroy ending.

It would be nice if Mac Walters and Co. released audio commentary that walked through the entire ending sequence. Just to paint a picture of what they wanted players to see or "speculate" about during each key moment.

I have nothing nice to say about the stuff that happens after the white elevator ride to the Catalyst, so I'll hold my tongue.
