Wii U Speculation Thread The Third: Casting Dreams in The Castle of Miyamoto

I'm pretty sure Nintendo did it mostly for third parties but do you guys think Nintendo will ever make use of the 25GB available on their proprietary discs?

The only game I can think of is the next Smash Bros using something between 9-12GB of space and maybe, just maybe... Metroid. but I think that's pushing it.

I'm assuming that (almost) all Nintendo games will double their size with HD textures, better lighting and all that graphical stuff but still not even near to cover Wii's current double layered disc.

And this better be on Wii U around the first year:

HduPk.jpg

It better be there at launch.

I'm hoping that the NFC isn't abused as a DLC money machine.
With all the "on disc" DLC outrage, I can see it being implemented often with "buy this action figure to unlock bla bla bla"
If its a figure a la Skylander I don't mind, since in that case you get a figure that doubles as a memory card of sort.

Wouldn't mind paying for a code, if they sent me an artbook or something. :p

Not saying that I approve that kind of shitty-moves, but at they they should hide it and not make it obvious; so I don't feel as bad. :p

But, expect the same to happen. Nintendo might have care and a few other devs/publishers too; but since they're all for giving space to third-parties, if third-parties want to flood the store with unlockable keys like Namco back at the 360-launch, they will.

It will be the second coming of the e-reader. Prepare yourselves.

At least with NFC putting in 16 digit codes will be a thing of the past. Next gen will see the nickel and diming will reach new heights. I expect an increased effort against used games and paid subscriptions for online games.

Fuck reviewers. I hope devs do that if they can't think of anything worthwhile to put on the controller screen. If their vision of a 1080p or 60fps game is going to suffer due to a shitty, tacked on bottom DS screen, I say fuck it.

Emm...yeah I prefer the devs finding some interesting ways to use that second screen instead of aiming for 1080p 60fps on the main screen.

Is it just me?

I mean, what are you asking for, exactly? Third-party core games fundamentally designed around the Wii U controller? That's not going to happen, outside of a handful of exceptions, for the same reason that you haven't seen many 360- or PS3-exclusive core games this generation. HD budgets are just too high to justify exclusives.

Actually yes, but the "core" part is a bit shady.
I'm still not sure how the console-gaming landscape will be shaped after WiiU's release.
Not so sure PS3/X360 will be "core" for that long if you know what I mean.

Yes, after the fiscal year.
And I think Nintendo themselves will start the leaks on purpose to create
a frenzy for E3.
31st of March: Record Date for Year-End Dividends for the 72nd Fiscal Year
26th of April: Fiscal Year Earnings Release [Scheduled]

Source: http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/schedule/index.html

I believe not releasing something new about Wii U at or before the IR event on the 26th of April would equal concern among investors, especially since it's the only earnings release before E3. Of course the news could come in that they simply state that the full reveal will come at E3, but would that satisfy the investors and enthusiasts?

There was that rumor about there being a "tsunami wave of 3DS titles" coming this year. And I believe it since Iwata said there's over 200 3DS titles in development, and we still haven't seen Paper Mario, Luigi's Mansion 2, Animal Crossing, Kingdom Hearts, Bravely Default, Monster Hunter 3G, Monster Hunter 4, Fire Emblem, and many others released here in North America . Then you also have rumors of brand new Zelda 3DS games coming. And Pokemon Black 2 and Pokemon White 2 are coming for DS. And there must be a lot of 3DS games that haven't been announced yet.

At the IR event, I expect a few nuggets of news about the Wii U and a lot of enthusiasm over the 3DS's upcoming software.

I think the IR event on 26th will focus on 3DS though.

Also I think Nintendo's E3 conference will have a long running time to cover both Wii U and 3DS. I don't know how long their conferences usually are, but I have a feeling this will be one of their longest E3 conferences.

It depends. Games that don't heavily use both displays are more likely to be fully playable on the padlet. I'd like to see both approaches.

I know this is old, but it probably hasn't been posted here, or perhaps it already has, so sorry if it has....

RUMOR - Nintendo working on 3 new franchises for Wii U, price talk and more
Mar 12, 2012 by RawmeatCowboy
The following information comes from a supposed inside source...

- between ten to eleven Nintendo published retail games to be shown for Wii U at E3
- third party games to be shown as well
- around 70 Wii U games are currently in development from a variety of publishers
- Nintendo will be publishing/releasing four Wii U games of their own before the end of 2012
- considering pricing Wii U lower than they want to
- big wave of 3DS and Wii U software this holiday season
- Nintendo has at least three new franchises in development for the Wii U, coming from various studios

edit: banned site, sorry, so sorry. won't do it again,

I like the Zelda tech demo, it's beautiful, but I don't like how Link looks. He's all tan and glowing with bleach blond hair. It's weird looking.

That doesn't matter too much though, it's just a tech demo. They probably won't reuse the TP style. I don't mind if the actual game has a similar realistic feel, but I'd rather they differentiate it from TP.

This seems more believable. Leak half of a bit of information, and then media outlets will speculate, and then during a non-Wii U-centric interview or event, a question will be asked for clarification, and the answer will be given. Thus, the news cycle renews..

So yeah I know I barely post here but I wanted to share this. Another leak? Meh or just something to discuss anyways.

Sorry, but the post was made by this guy and.....

.....from a website that IS ONLY 1 YEAR OLD doesn't cross me as a reliable source.

No offense to the owners, the guy in the image, or those who run the site. I would require some incredible evidence/credibility to even consider blinking at that "news/leak/rumor".

Yes, it's old
but I thought there were around 200...
we discussed it was between retail and downloadables
And about the new franchises, I hope they're something more core/serious/less kid-oriented cuz all the Wii stuff did nothing for me.
Something big a la Mario/Zelda/Metroid/Donkey/Smash we deserve it

The number of retail Wii games announced at E3 2006 (wii's revealing) was around a similar number as the Forgetthebox article (70+).

Well I just posted It as something to talk about. But eh doesnt matter to me. Also I dont see what the guy's looks have to do with anything >_>

I don't want action figures. I want video game content intended for a game to be included with the game. Nintendo can dip into their banked billions and not charge me $10.

Edit : To clarify, I'm talking about near-launch DLC. I'm less crotchety about DLC that releases months/years post-release.

I heard something about a Wii U dashboard while walking the halls today

And what would that be? lol

So yeah I know I barely post here but I wanted to share this. Another leak? Meh or just something to discuss anyways.

Fake list is fake. Not that some of those are out of the realm of possibility, but....
Edit: You're right in that it incites some interesting possibilities but I wouldn't put too much stock into it either.

For me personally the Wii U doesn't need much to be a must buy.

- Visual level only slightly above PS360 is fine
- Online interface/infrastructure to AT LEAST the level of first gen Xbox Live, at the very least
- Allows my Wii saves/downloads to be used off the SD card currently in my Wii
- A confirmation of Wii HD remakes

If I get that, I'm good.

It reads like a transparent wishlist :-P

gaf would melt down, sink into the earth, and poison the planet if that list turned out to be true.

Well I just posted It as something to talk about. But eh doesnt matter to me. Also I dont see what the guy's looks have to do with anything >_>

I didn't mean to insinuate anything about his looks. My comment, if you look deeper, is about it being posted by a couple friends from an apartment in NY on a 1 year old site.

His looks have nothing to do with my mistrust in the information. Feel free to post any rumor though. Fine with me...just expressing my thoughts on that one.

Has anyone talked about the API feature set that the WiiU has with communicating with the UPad?

We know of a few features like streaming gameplay and video chat, but do we have a complete feature set?

With the Wii, things like AiLive, etc took a year or more to come out, and those were by third parties.

I hope Nintendo has a pretty competent API day 1

I think if there were going to be a Wii U version of DOA5 immediately, they would just wait the extra month or so and release it as a launch game.

Maybe a DOA5U (for Ultimate, not Wii U naming conventions) the next year. DOAD didn't sell very well, but it was also almost entirely reused content, so who knows.

Would make a rather fun e3.

My mind could not comprehend it.

WoW on my tv (oh God not...don't let me go back to that game...NOOOOO!!)
Counterstrike?
FF:CC?
Crysis?
Red Steel 2 HD?
PSO2?

If denial is the rejection of an idea the mind finds overwhelmingly hateful, what do you call this?

Yeah I know a lot of people are just fed up with fake news in this thread. I didn't really trust it just wanted to toss it out there. I would be pretty shocked if we even got any of the mmos lol.

Since the console won't be a graphic powerhouse, I'm expecting Nintendo to work untiringly on other of the console's strengths.
I think I read somewhere Nintendo said the online infrastructure will be a unique experience and it is way better than XboxLive,PSN in some areas, so I think this is one of Wii U's strengths.

The real reason DOAD didn't sell well is because it should have been a launch title. Many of the people who bought Street Fighter 3D at launch didn't need another fighter. If it had been a launch title, it would have taken some sales away from Street Fighter.

World Of Warcraft on a console would be shocking news.

That list the DualPixels guys posted though is crazy as fuck. Earth would split into 2 pieces if any of this would be true :lol
