It's just hard not to care about Hershel's people besides Maggie and himself. I honestly often forgot all about Jimmy, Patricia, Beth, and whoever that little girl is.

I'm looking over the Walking Dead Wiki's series timeline now. It's crazy how the whole search for Sophia was only 5 days. It seemed way longer than that.
Also... how could Rick have survived as long as he did in the hospital bed? 46 days he was there after Shane "abandoned" him. Really?
Yeah. Jimmy was Beth's boyfriend, but she doesn't seem too upset about him being eaten alive. What relation was Otis to Hershel's family? Patricia was just Otis's girlfriend. (Which always threw me off since she looked so much like Beth.)
The real problem is none of these characters got much character development, of course. Jimmy got literally none. Patricia got to be upset about Otis. Beth got her own little episode.

Yup. The timeline is a bit stupid. It can't be canon. No way could the sophie thing be 5 days - because their reaction when they found zombie soph was like "OMFG been there all along". as someone else said, carl sure recovered from that bullet wound quick especially when he recovered from the point of death (but then veternirian hershel could magically fix randalls leg).
so yeah.
this show really demands you stretch ur imagination.

Man, that was a sweet episode.
I always liked Andrea (despite the GAF hate) and Im really glad she survived. She kicked a lot of ass, before being rescued by Samurai Riding-hood.
I thought Hershel would die for sure because of the old "Captain going down with his ship" cliche. Im glad he made it.
I was mad at Carol initially, for running off and leaving Andrea to die after Andrea saved her. Also, I dont think Carols character contributes much to the show and thought she might die for that, but she didnt. Whatever.

The survivors should have been training with farm tools like pitchforks and other long reach bladed weapons for when they inevitably ran out of ammo IMO. It would be much easier to kill a zombie (one on one) with a pitchfork through the skull than that mini-machete thing Glenn used last episode.

I'm catching up with the season (just have last two episodes left) but holy shit, this show is such a let down

I know i'm in the minority clearly here now, but yes the show was doomed the moment Darabont left and they dropped the budget
shit may as well be Grey's Anatomy with the licensed musical cues and what not.
Well, the halfway finale was decent ...but couldn't make up for 5 episodes of needless meandering and stooopid character drama
Underwhelming season finale. I remember liking that of season 1 more. For all the hundreds of zombies being shot it was dull. Shooting gallery with little spice or 'cool' factors. The zombie encounters the group had throughout the season were better.
The stupidest part was when everybody arrived at Rick's position on the highway in perfect timing. It was only a minute before T-Dog was reluctant to turn the car back because it would be 'suicide' to head in that direction.
At the end we're just in the same spot where S2 started, none the wiser. The only revelation was one that Rick already knew. Another building towering in the background where i suspect S3 will revolve around until some new contrived reason to leave pops-up. (wave of zombies being lured in the direction by the sound of a passing helicopter).
Can we stop with the brain-dead characters are terrible group dynamics? I'm thinking this show would be better with characters splitting into pairs, each doing its thing and with the show jumping between them. The pair that is trying to figure out what happened, heading into military bases and finding clues; the pair that just want to stay at one place dealing with the daily realities of survival; the pair that is trying to get to a specific city\town; one that is trying travel outside of the U.S.. etc. etc.
I'm still pretty confident that The Walking Dead it the current 'Worst show everybody's watching'.

Exactly. The fact that it has zombies in it is its saving grace. I think it has some of the worst writing in television.
Also, how in the hell does a second season get a lower budget? Especially after the first season was a ratings monster and a genuine hit? HBO increased the budget for Game of Thrones by 15% for the second season.

It IS the worst show that everyone is seemingly enamoured with though and that makes my head explode.
I said this to myself before, but now I'm enjoying the show more than ever. It could have more action and less talk, but I don't know if that would make the show any better.
They do need to get rid of some characters, and get new and better ones.
I've been powering through the second season. I have it on in the background because I've been working the graveyard shift. I definitely could not give this season my entire attention without my attention span drifting. Many episodes have felt too stretched out. It sounds like it has some high points before the finale so I'll keep trekking through. There is always hope for the next season too so I'd like to catch up since I'm already invested with the first season.

Don't necessarily think it need more action
It just needs more of what makes the premise what it is fundementally. More you know, actual Zombies, more dread, more horror, more desperation, scavaging, etc.
Not ladies pleasantly making dinner for everyone in the kitchen only mentioning "how much the world has changed" and stupid soap opera antics
I went back to catch that scene with Carol and Daryl due to the discussion in this thread (kinda missed it when I watched the ep) and I like that scene, but can anyone tell me what the last two lines are? Just cannot make those lines out on my shitty TV speakers, despite playing it over and over...
Also noticed and liked the little shot of Rick and Daryl doing a bro handshake when they meet back up. Hopefully that's hinting that they'll be best bros next season and onwards.

Well she was introduced in the worst way. The thing I like about zombie fiction is the idea that it could happen and seeing how normal people would survive. A girl with a hood and two armless zombies chained to her hardly fits in with the verisimilitude that the rest of the show goes for. I'll be happy to be wrong, but that introduction did nothing for me, other than prompt me to roll my eyes.
What can I say? You're easier to entertain than I am
A good majority of the show has consisted of awful writing, bad acting and plots that have done nothing but made me bored. I'm fine with a slow paced show (The Wire says hello) but for that type of pacing you need strong characters and writing, something TWD lacks severely. The show has enough good moments per episode to keep me interested, but it's nowhere near the quality it should be. It should be up there with the best of the best, instead it's more of a guilty pleasure that I have where I just try and ignore the huge amount of bad aspects.I really do hope that season 3 fixes these problems since the last few eps have been good, but part of me thinks that's just because it was leading up to the finale and next season we'll have 8 more episodes of nothing but bad soap opera until they realise they need to do something interesting again.
Basically, I agree with this:
You can have a slow and deliberate show based on characters without it being fucking boring. It's a ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE. Make the most of that setting for fucks sake.

I get why Rick finally snapped, and I don't even blame him for it. However, to off Shane just to turn Rick into him is...a poor decision. Don't get me wrong, I also had a "Hell Yeah" moment when he finally put everyone in their place after all the whining. Yet after thinking about it, I felt Rick could have delivered the same message without sounding so ruthless. I guess we'll just have to wait and see if his character change will make the show better or worst.
For me, I think one of the biggest problems in the show is the lack of tension (which was there in the first season), and that stems from a disconnect with the characters. The writers have done a superb job alienating the audiences from the cast, so much so that I was more interested in who they were getting rid of, instead of who was going to survive the attack. I couldn't even remember one instance where I was actually in fear for them, especially not the more well liked characters (Rick, Darryl, Glen). It's really a shame.
So they've made it a fact that these zombies groan/moan/growl constantly (they are not exactly quiet). It bothers me that they can still sneak up on people so easily.
Finale was just mediocre, but at least they are on the move again. However, I do wish they have a clear goal. I'm finding the idea of survival is getting old because honestly, most of them can die and I wouldn't shed a tear.

Zombies become an issue/threat when it suits the writers on the TV Show. They feel transparent as well as often times appear it, as long stretches will go by where you won't see a single one ( yeah it's the country side, but um, A LOT of people live in America).
There is no threat/fear in this show. It's become a damn soap. Characters themselves are complete one-dimensional stereotypes (even the token "aw hell naw" black man is there). Yes, it could be argued that the comic was even worse in this regard, but at least it never really looses focus on what's important ....which is SURVIVAL in a zombie apocalypse.
Watched the episode last night. Pretty good. Was hoping for more deaths, but I thought it was satisfying.

Rick didn't send Jimmy to death. He didn't know he would get immediately overrun. Also it was Darryl who asked Jimmy to drive the RV over to the barn to see if Rick set the fire and if he's there.
The reason Beth didn't react much to Jimmy's death is because it was basically an arranged relationship because there was no one else. She was not in love with him. She said/implied this a couple episodes ago, you might have missed it.

I loved that opening scene... in fact it was probably the best thing about the episode. I loved the idea that the zombies just followed one random sound, probably got distracted by more random sounds along the way (which increased the size of the horde) and then one badly time gunshot absolutely fucked everyone on the show.
It was uncontrollable and scary - exactly what this show needs more of.
I get where you are coming from, but there is no real life Zombie rules to base the realism on. By masking herself with the hood and two armless jawless zombies, she can easily move through the hordes without attracting much attention, and that isn't any less realistic than wiping zombie blood and guts all over your body to sneak away which the show has already established.
Let's face it, the characters on this show are just dilly-dallying and never learn that they shouldn't keep their guard down for a second, and suddenly, we are introduced to a character who obviously is adapting to survive in this new world at a much better rate then the characters we have met so far have been doing. I don't see her as any less realistic than what the show has set up already, she's just doing things differently, and probably better.

It's like early Dexter. Great main plot bogged down with shitty subplots and a couple of annoying characters.
The only thing I can say that won't give anything away regarding michonne is that if you look at every single character, they each have hit a crazy/breaking point at some moment in their life when the zombie apocalypse happened.
her backstory on her pets is small in the comics but personal yet smart and crazy at the same time.

I'm curious how destructive a real samurai would be in The Walking Dead world. One from the ancient Japanese ages. I wonder if it would be like the movies and video games where they just destroy all the zombies with epic slices from their sword and other weapons. Imagine if Rick & Co. had a really good and sharp sword... they would kill so many and make things much easier, and NOW imagine if an ancient trained Samurai warrior had one... the only thing that could stop him is running out of breath. He would have obliterated that herd.

Rick's currently unborn child is burning him on a pyre and looks over to find the Force ghosts. All set to zombies (now cured of their madness and intelligent again) dancing around the fires singing yub yub-step.
Tanks like that get about 5 miles a gallon. Plus the regular maintenance. I don't think it's going to make it out of the city if someone did try to drive off with it.

One way to go, is creating a large caravan of vehicles. Obviously, scout out for tanker trucks of gasoline. That'd need to be one of the first things on the to do list.

I get it now, The Walking Dead isn't a reference to the zombies rising and walking around, it's to the fucking humans that can't understand the most basic of fucking reason, and hence they'll all fucking die at some point. The whole premise of this season was bullshit.
