I just realized Squids is free now. Downloading now.

Hope you'll like it ! If you can post some impressions I'd like to know what you think...(I did some of the background art for the game actually)

The sequel is in development and has just been announced... I saw some of the concept art and it looks great ! (Yes, I'm biased cause it's a friend who's drawing it, but it's honestly beautifully drawn )

Yoooo I did the first few stages. I'm enjoying it, and those stars will make me completely anal about moving on to the next level. They even give you more pearls for doing them, alleviating the need to resort to IAP.

Good job guys, I will definitely keep an eye on the sequel.

not played, but these are the ones i usually see mentioned.
Gamebook Adventures 1-8
Fabled Lands 1-2
Keep of the Lich Lord

that first Gamebook Adventures has a Lite version, i did play that and it seems like a really good adaptation of the format.

Thanks, man. Much appreciated.

Anybody know of any Murder/Mystery type games on iOS?

Looking for Visual Novels / Choose Your Own Adventure type games on the iPhone/iPad. Any recommendations?

Visual Novels:

Scar of the Doll

Manhattan Requiem (This goes down to $1 occasionally, don't be shocked by the high price)

Jake Hunter (I think these are just ripped from DS games, but if you haven't played it)

I'm grabbing Swordigo, it's getting great impressions on TouchArcade. Also Angry Birds because I haven't touched the game since well before Rio's release so I could possibly get some enjoyment out of it.

Battleloot too, it's a shame these smaller budget games aren't releasing with retina support, but I'm also pretty happy with how good standard iPad games look.

Angry Birds Space is out in the Swiss store. Anybody here who hated the original but loves space?

I never hated Angry Birds though it did annoy me that a game doing nothing original or better than what came before it grew to such populatiry. The game itself was okay. Angry Birds Space is still lacking in integrity (an achievement for purchasing the eagle? that'd really stupid) but has better production values even if they still don't go all the way. The game itself, though, is a lot more fun and better designed. The mechanic of using gravity in this way (which isn't new either) at makes it feel a lot more fresh than the original. It's fun for sure and worth the purchase but it's nothing to go that crazy over.

I find Rage is played best with controls set to Gyro and sensitivity set to high. It feels exactly like virtual window, except you're still guided/nudged towards and limited to the range in which the action happens (which makes things a ton easier than virtual window). However, I must admit, I still regularly hit pause and then unpause really fast to re-center. Gotta do that or either swipe to re-center.

my draw something games arent loading anymore...friend submitted about 2 hours ago and I even met him in the meantime lol...still on "waiting their move" status.

anybody had something similar before?

Thx for taking the time to write this. I got it off freemyapps :)

Zynga

Just kidding(?), my games still work fine, haven't experienced any such issues.

Edit: Regarding FreeMyApps, the store app cache file I've posted about before that fixed that "Unable to purchase" error, it also contains the FreeMyApps device ID data so you'll have to re-enable that via their site to get your credits and such to show up properly.

Game distinctly reminds me of that flash game from the early 2000s where you were a small bit that had to use the gravity of different objects (planets, moons, asteroids) to get the "end" of the level.

SMH at the Hunger Games endless runner :(

The developers had so much potential to work with if only they would have taken their job seriously.

Maybe I'm crazy, but if they would have taken the time to develop an actual HG game, something akin to a first-person or top-down shooter with levels skinned as different arenas, this game could have been huge. Multiplayer battles, smaller scale (possibly up to 8 players) would start a match, run around and use the terrain and find or steal weapons to kill eachother until only the victor remains. You die, you're out and have to wait until the next game starts. Could have huge halo- or cod- style maps with different elevations and vantage points. Team up with friends to take out the others until the end, where its every man for himself. Randomly assigned weapon and health drops.

Sounds like a lot of fun and a game I would definitely play, but maybe its too much for iOS. Perhaps that would be better suited on consoles.

I doubt they had the budget.

Already played it. Looking for more text heavy adventures, also.

Transylvania? It's a port of an old graphic+text adventure (you type your actions but there are pictures to look at and you can tap on things for commands if you want). It's pretty short but you'll die repeatedly. Mildly amusing, oddly non-linear (in a way), although I got stuck somewhere and never finished it.

Thanks again. In fact, thank you to everybody who contributed. So many great recommendations. Keep it coming, folks! :)

If you don't mind my asking, how exactly does it work?

You download sponsor apps from the freemyapps list, it launches you into the App Store to download. You download it, launch it for 30 seconds or so, then go back to freemyapps and it credits you. Get enough credits and profit

You sign your device up via their website (install a certificate) then download sponsor apps that give you X amount of credits for running them on your device for at least 30 seconds. You then use those credits to redeem gift apps that FreeMyApps offers. Sponsor apps give between 50-150 credits each and a gift app costs around 300 credits (if it's a $.99 app) up to 2000+ credits for say Pages ($9.99).

Nice. Any issues with deleting the sponsor apps after the initial 30 seconds?

Man I wish FF Tactics would come down in price.

I wish it did too. No way I will ever buy it at it's current price. But that's more because I've bought it on UMD and PSN already. So I feel I've spent enough. IF you don't have War of the Lions already, it's worth $20, so it's good deal at around $15. But it is hard to look at this price, and then see the current price on PSN (standard has been 9.99 for a while, which is when I first bit. It's on sale now for less).

It's in the controls options.

1:1 motion controls. Very precise and entertaining when possible (not always obviously) and hard/tiring. Unlike gyro or other games' motion controls the sensitivity is true to life so to look behind you do an 180 irl, to look up you look up, etc. Last I tested with a reference point in the room it remained consistent even after frantic movements as returning to the point of reference in the room also yielded the same view angle in game. Makes it feel a bit like a lightgun game. But not. However it should have had its own leaderboards since it's so different and demanding.

What game are you talking about? Sounds interesting.

I tried to go back to the discussion on the last page to find out, but really why make it so hard on everybody?

Can we put the name of the game we're discussing in the tittle of the post so we don't have to go back through multiple page arguments, just to find this bit of info out.

I'm not singling you out, I know it's common practice around here, despite my numerous suggestions to the contrary. I just found this particular game mechanic interesting and was a little frustrated I couldn't find out the name of such a game quickly enough.

Hello iFriends, anyone know when the Jetpack Joyride is coming? It's my favorite iPhone game so far, but I'd completely used all the content months ago.

He was talking about Rage.

I dont know if this is the right place but, I am having trouble installing new apps. They keep getting stuck on waiting....

I have logged out of the app store
hard reset the iPhone

Any help ? I am using the latest firmware 5.1 and running it on an iPhone 4S

I had a similar problem, with music as well. I hard reset a dozen times, logging in and out, trying wi-fi and 3g.

In the end, I was forced to download via my PC and hard sync. Have you checked STORE in your settings? I noticed that in one of the latest updates they added the toggle for whether cellular data would be used to download 20mb or < apps, so perhaps it's that. If you're using Wi-fi, it may also be an issue with your firewall/network? I know I certainly never manage to download anything using wi-fi at the office.

Again, the guaranteed fix, although annoying, is to download to the PC you sync to and then just hard sync.

Just do a google search for 2048x2048 images (for the tilting to work nicely, x1536 if you don't care), as wallpaper or a theme...
