Girl goes crazy, threatens to kill Professor.

It is funny how if a white person said they were going to kill every black person like she said she was going to kill all the whites, it would be front page every media outlet and we'd be having riots and marches and they would be charged with a hate crime. Black girl does it and I bet it's just "oh, you"
Man, I was waiting for reverse racism guy to show up.

Google not policing YouTube comments at all is nearly a society level problem in my opinion...

I mean, it's breeding a sense that it's normal to say certain things or express yourself in ways that are beyond just being rude.

I'm the last person to say we need more censorship but if people on Xbox Live said the same sort of things and then were not banned, people would be all over Microsoft's rear end.

The comments on youtube are worse then the "blocked" content on there. Hell I don't know if I want my future kids reading all that ignorant non sense.

To be honest, I don't believe we're getting all of the information on this.

People don't realise that included in the theory of evolution, as Darwin espoused it, is the idea that the different human races are in fact different species, and that it was considered a process of natural selection (by Darwin) that the negroid species would eventually be killed off by the other species.

I am thinking this girl from the video came upon these more sinister aspects of the theory of evolution during home study, or alternatively, the professor could have dropped the information in class himself. Perhaps she did not know how to approach these ideas from a purely intellectual viewpoint and internalised what she perceived to be a natural process that presented a threat to her ethnic group.

I'm just saying, there is often more than one viewpoint to any given story. And I blame the professor for not defusing the situation, when he obviously could have, assuming his job title means he has a comprehensive knowledge on the theory of evolution.

When I hijack a course curriculum, ask a tangent question four times in a row and the professor does not answer it to my liking....

He tried to explain that evolution doesn't kill anyone, which is a very reasonable way to address a ludicrous question. What miraculous answer do you think could have put a lid on her crazy?

I think she's probably not lying when she says she was upset by the Trayvon Martin murder, and she was probably stewing in anger and connecting everything back to that. She probably had enough of standing still and going about her normal life, so she snapped. All of that is perfectly understandable though not ideal, but what is unforgivable is that after snapping she went on a racist rant about whites and Jews and "sand niggers" and such. That's some suppressed hatred pouring out.

I'd say that she has been brainwashed by too many Black Panther meetings and lashed out at the wrong people for no reason.

Or she is just fucking crazy, which seems to be the case. You don't verbally and then physically assault people because they aren't the same race as you when they are just sitting next to you. I think it's quite comical that you actually attempt to find reason behind such a hateful tirade.

Please don't misunderstand, I'm not excusing her behaviour. I just would have liked the lecturer to put more effort into defusing the situation, certainly beyond simply stating that evolution isn't a living thing that targets specific people for termination. A strictly philosophical discussion calling for class participation could perhaps have done it. It feels like he was more concerned with sticking to his schedule and prepared content rather than being flexible and catering to the intellectual and educational needs of a student. In the mean time this young woman was becoming more and more upset and agitated, and that should have been visible and obvious to him.

Also, having spent more than ten years at various tertiary institutions I know how career academics can get when it comes to actually teaching -- most would much rather be back in their cosy officies, doing research and writing the articles for which they are paid, and which forms the greatest part of their daily functions.

I'm African and grew up in a multi-ethnic community. I've known violence, bigotry, hatred, etc. all my life. After a while you can't do anything but develop an interest into the how's and why's of ethnic conflict.

It was a review session before a midterm examination. What about the needs of the other students?

I don't think there's any reason to assume the professor could have averted the situation, nor do I think it's reasonable to expect him to.

Probably because one of those is his job and the other isn't.

If she has special needs, then she needs to find a program that caters to that.

What I am trying to say is that there is no conflict. She creates one and then lashes out on innocent people. Or are you not seeing this?

In my opinion, her inner conflict manifested itself as a violent outburst. The lecturer was given a golden opportunity to bring this inner conflict out into the open in a peaceful, controlled manner, but instead carried on as usual.

It's okay if we disagree on our individual interpretations of the incident.

So what if an Asian student had an analogous outburst. Who does the professor cater to?

It's not his job to be her psychologist.

I just can't fathom anyone blaming the teacher for this; maybe because half my family, from grandfathers to aunts and uncles, are/were teachers.

What you call inner conflict, most call crazy. But if you want to justify or put the blame on others for this, so be it.

In my opinion, someone who is that mentally unstable should not be in a collegiate environment. Professors are not mental health experts.

Golden opportunity? It was class disruption, plain and simple. There are other students who pay for their education.

What.

You expect the professor to defuse her? It's not his job to try to shut up crazy. The fact that she asked such a dumb question without allowing him to answer it and just kept yelling means she didn't want to hear what he said.

Whoops someone's never read Darwin or taken a single biology course.

Looks like that person is you:

"At some future period, not very distant as measured by centuries, the civilised races of man will almost certainly exterminate, and replace, the savage races throughout the world. At the same time the anthropomorphous apes, as Professor Schaaffhausen has remarked, will no doubt be exterminated. The break between man and his nearest allies will then be wider, for it will intervene between man in a more civilised state, as we may hope, even than the Caucasian, and some ape as low as a baboon, instead of as now between the negro or Australian and the gorilla (p. 521)."

“[t]he chief distinction in the intellectual powers of the two sexes is shown by man’s attaining to a higher eminence, in whatever he takes up, than can woman—whether requiring deep thought, reason, or imagination, or merely the use of the senses and hands.... [T]he average of mental power in man must be above that of woman.... [M]an has ultimately become superior to woman” (pp. 873-874).

That's evidence that Darwin predicted certain things, but those predictions were only derived from his theory (of natural selection), not inherent in the theory itself.

Boerseun said "included in the theory of evolution, as Darwin espoused it, is the idea that different races... etc" So maybe just a poor choice of words, but that might be the point of disagreement here.

I find it flabbergasting these college kids still don't know how to properly record from their phones.

As for this crazy chick.. I don't even.

Wow, that chick went fucking batshit crazy

More information was posted on the previous page. It wasn't about her recent discovery of the finer points of Darwin's theory. She was dealing with some internal issues regarding the Trayvon murder, she even said so herself.

"He was killed in a such a way that struck a nerve with my family and I," Carr said during the interview.

Carr said that when she was growing up her brothers were often questioned in their Broward County community even though they were doing nothing wrong, just like Trayvon Martin.

"A normal everyday occasion such as walking and he died for that," said Carr.

Fast forward 16 hours later and Carr is placed in the back of an FAU patrol car. According to the police report Carr "suddenly began yelling at her instructor and class saying things like, 'white people suck, Jewish people who think the world is theirs which it is not, I will kill you'....Carr kept going on about killing people."

I think Boerseun was trying to explain the nature of the question, not the cause of the breakdown. Both things separately caused confusion and he was trying to explain the first one.

I can understand his point on that, but I disagree with him on his other point that the professor is to blame for anything. He's looking at this from the perspective of the crazy girl and only the crazy girl. He also said the girl was obviously emotional and thus the professor shouod have done ore to assauge her, but her emotionality wasn't obvious until after the professor gave his answer.

There were other prominent scientists who shared these same theories.

Yeah, and if Darwin wrote that, pretty much every white person in the room should be held accountable.

Really? You blame the professor for not defusing the situation? The girl was walking around the class sticking her hand in peoples faces and yelling "Bitch! I'll fucking kill you BITCH!"

I've met some people that have the idea that everyone in the world is racist, but I've never seen someone that actively seeks justification that the WORLD is racist.

Someone should have told her to read Guns, Germs, and Steel if she wanted a real answer.

I'm reading this book right now, and it is pretty damn good.

Also Boerseun seems to think that teachers should be psychologists, and waste valuable class time catering to a single student at the expense of every single other student. Am I on the mark?

Race is a human construct though. We know now definitively that we are all the same species.
