The iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch Gaming |Thread4| NOT Doomed

Cool. I don't know if people should care about my recommendations tho :P
I'll toss in a link near jedeye's thread.
Or maybe we could do something bigger and better and add a game(s) of the week thingie and updating it as we go on, that'd be cool, I think. Would you want to manage that or that's not your thing? Simple Google doc with name, platform requirement (ie iPad 2+ only) and if it is universal/has a separate HD app.
Now, being serious for a second, we're just waiting on the banners to make things a bit better. Which is my fault, since teamaxe had them ready before but in the meantime I got banned (lol) so he couldn't send them to me, and now he's not logging in and is probably busy. Life.

I'd have no problem keeping a small google doc handy for a game of the week thing. I'll probably give you and Flunkie permissions as well so I'm not the only one with all the power. I'll try and whip one up here today. How do we decide on game of the week though?

Also, it is just nice having a list of GAFfer recommended games to pull from when you're looking at something to buy. I'm trying to see if there is a way for GAFfers to '+1' a game so you can see GAF only popularity, but I think that would be a ton of work. Regardless, I'll set it up with a genre next to it, and standard price, appshopper and iTunes link, etc.

EDIT: Whoops, google doc link. I'll pretty it up soon too.

EDIT2: For the '+1' idea, can't we make a small survey script that could automatically update something like that w/ gDocs? I'll look into it.

New post for a better realization of this.

I made a sample form on gDocs, and here is the result.

We have a form of a checklist of games you can vote on, including a write-in. The second link is the results. I made some random entries to see how the results would flesh out, and I think this is a possibility to provide iOS-GAF an opportunity to keep a reasonably compiled list of games 'We' recommend. Thoughts?

Do the links work?

Just got my first iPad and honestly the only bad thing so far is that apparently there's no games category in the app store... How stupid is that. Actually overall the store is better on the iphone.

Anyway I got a couple of "retina games" and they look amazing (RealRacingHD, Angry birds). Just tried Infinity blade 2 that I had already purchades for my phone and tried it on the ipad and man does it look like shit.

If you go to the main page on the app store there is a button that will take you to the games section it's usually on the top or bottom.

Anyone here play their games over an apple tv often? thinking about buying one before work in an hour's time and while I am happy with what I have read and seen on youtube, anyone have anything to say about performance or novelty factor?

I can see airplay being really nice for racing games and maybe some fps games, I don't really have any trouble with touch sticks.

if u guys play Draw Something, add me on FB

best game ever lol

Finally snagged Pocket League Story yesterday due to the price drop.. my 8th Kairosoft title (I believe I have all of them unless one has recently slipped by me). Doing quite well but my attendance seems to be hovering around 12k after raising the price to 20 which was deemed "about right." I have 19,000 fans and am up to Veteran (Level 7). I've upgraded my stadium size twice so I should definitely be getting a bigger piece of the pie.. at what point do people start paying 20 without bitching essentially?

I also have a guy whose a "Spider" and has some ridiculous GK stats but I signed a World Class GK and have been trying to level him up.. I wonder if it's even worth it? The Spider is also an A level Forward and B level MF which I've been running him at. Should I just stick with the Spider? I haven't tried the World Class League yet so I'm thinking he might be the best bet when I get there..

I recently compiled a GAF short-list of the diablo-style RPGs on iPAD, and on that list was POCKET RPG - a game that I wasn't a huge fan of upon release, but thought well-enough of it upon reflection.

Time and updates however, have made me pick it up again. Whereas once it was a cake-walk 'casual action RPG' experience, now I'm having a blast with it. Best described as a cutesy hack-n-slash dungeon crawler, it's Crescent Moon Games' Dungeon Hunter with loads of personality. While there isn't much exploration, the emphasis is heavy on loot-grabbing. Enter a level, collect weapons, health, and coin in order to get better items to FINISH the level. The idea is to play through areas over and again as every time you enter a new level or re-enter an old one, you're essentially starting from scratch. Retained are increased experience points and accumulated coin from previous plays, which enable you to power through levels that may have been too difficult prior, or grind through completed levels in order to pad your wallet.

Battles - and the bulk of game's play comes from carefully inching through levels. Enemies swarm and overpower you if you're too eager to press forward beyond the range of the camera, and collapsing environments keep the arenas small. It's an arcadey-diablo without much story or depth. There's no defending/blocking, no co-op (shame) no online pvp, making each area, essentially, a war of attrition. The reward is new enemy types, new weapons, new trinkets, and the occasional exciting boss battle.

It's an attractive game - even if it hasn't been updated with the retina display, playing fantastically on my iPad 3 despite the borders being stretched just a tad off the screen view.

I'm just giving Gaf the heads up on a game that is REALLY fun, looks great, and is definitely worth the 2.99 for those of you looking for gems that aren't much discussed. There's no IAP or freemium trickery here, so what you buy is what you get.

Looking at Crescent Moon's library, between Aralon, Pocket RPG, and even Kids vs Goblins, they're really trying to put out slightly deeper experiences than the market generally embraces. Give Pocket RPG a second look...

Currently Playing:

Swordigo
Hunters 2
Infinite Flight
Waking Mars

Oh, has anybody played Dungeon Defenders: Second Wave recently? I tried it when it first came out and it was bugged to hell. I hear that it's gotten a LOT better. is the game any good??

World Class players are definitely above the green ones and mandatory for the later matches. Here's a pretty nifty guide for the game: LINK

Interesting, they don't feel like Speedsters are as useful at FW but Phelps for me is truly absurd. Scored 5 goals in a Cup match for me. They suggest going with a World Class GK over a Spider, so I guess I'll keep training him up and keep my Spider at MF for now before perhaps retiring him.

Oh man, these Galaxy Class foreign teams are raping poor lil ol me. Got a ways to go before I can beat the World League I guess.. lol.

Where's my Epic Astro Story & RPG Story Kairosoft?

Whichever one of those comes out first is going to be the first time I've purchased a Kairosoft game before it goes on sale. I played the light version of Epic Astro Story on my Android phone, oh man, it's so good. Want... now.

Can anyone who's completed Beat Sneak Bandit-tell me how you got the Achievement "Fourtastic" on Laboratory 10? It's driving me crazy...I can't step on that bottom portal 4 times because that spy cam will find me...

EDIT:
Nevermind-I just figured it out.

CodeRunner is free for today only. If you can suspend your disbelief, and are open to leaving the house to play, then I recommend it.

I played the first "mission", and really enjoyed it. I would have continued, had it not started raining. This game probably benefits living in a bigger city, with more people playing, but it seems to work without anyone else as well. You're basically recruited to investigate this guy, which involves going to scenes close to your location. It's mostly audio based, along with going through hacker file trees and GPS maps of your location.

It had me go to a bus stop and download data off of a nearby 'stolen cell phone', and then leave it as a dead drop at another location. I'm really digging the app so far, and you folks should grab it while it's free:

So what are the chances that the other Cave shmups get the same Universal treatment as Espgaluda and Dodonpachi Resurrection?
Decent. Deathsmiles already has high res assets available from the 360 release, and Mushi just got an HD 360 release recently. I have no clue if DDP DOJ got a high res release, but the original hardware was at least slightly higher resolution than the newer stuff (224x448 vs 240x320). That one should at least become universal like Bug Princess, just to fill the screen and reduce the scaling steps involved.

Looking forward, the current hardware on sale is iPad 2, new iPad, iPhone 3GS, 4, 4S, and iPod touch. Out of those only the 3GS and iPod touch can't play them at all (while the 4 kind of can, at like 30fps rather than 60). The majority of device sales are the 4S and iPads so it's viable for them to do HD only releases from now on (I think DDP Maximum was high res too, so that's another sign). I can possibly see them continuing low res releases if they see enough sales with users on the iPod and other older devices...but as time goes on that market will continue to decline.

Depends on the game design. If you can play fine without needing to look at where you're touching (fixed controls, single button games, tilt, etc) it can work ok on TV. If it requires direct touching in some way (Flight Control, jubeat/jukebeat, drawing, etc) you kind of have to look at the screen to play so the TV output is kind of useless outside of other people watching. There are some that have iPhone controls with iPad video output which makes it somewhat console like.

Lag wise it's small enough for many things to be playable, but big enough to possibly cause problems. Also depends on the network and stuff of course.

Mushi HD isn't out quite yet (got another two months to go). There has not been a release of DOJ with higher resolution assets - assuming DOJ on iOS runs at iPhone Retina resolution, it's as good as it's going to get. Going universal would be great for getting that stupid scale button off the corner at the very least.

I'm a little worried about how they'd handle Deathsmiles if they decide to make an HD version - unlike the others Deathsmiles had an extensive amount of IAP available and I'd rather not be screwed out of being able to use it if an HD version were offered.

Well, I had a pretty useful "exceptional" player for quite some time. It also depends on your formation, how aggressively you're playing etc. they make it sound like you absolutely need WC and up for the last few cups and leagues though because you can raise their stats higher.

Great to hear, they're fantastic ports and I'd love to play them on an iPad.

You still doing something with third-party controllers? I've still got the iCade list of games in this thread but it hasn't been updated in awhile. If you are going to add it to the OP I'll make sure to update it and keep it update. I stopped since no one seemed to care.

WTF iCab died on me I was writing a long ass post ma porca troia!!
Briefly, absolutely, and I assure you people will definitely care for that list, will go up with a proper banner and everything, credited to you of course, and once it's there people will track down the games easily and help others out making an informed decision if they think the iCade's worth buying or not.
I'm also looking for someone to write a couple of lines on their experience with the iCade, good or bad, so to add what gaffers think of the iCade. Are there two models of the iCade or even more?

Anybody here as an iControl pad and wants to do the same or write something about it? Never even seen the thing, so I have no clue and I could only copy/paste something out there.

What about that Fling (?) thingie?
Anything else that I should mention.

Yeah that IAP is a problem, not really sure how they can get around that unless they just update it as a huge universal app (both low and high res assets), it's already near 500MB as is isn't it? I think it's one of their higher priced games to begin with, that plus the IAP might make a free update more viable, but who knows.

That kind of reminds me of something else actually. Years ago I got GoodReader when it was just an iPhone app, then at some point it became a universal app, then at some point it split up to separate iPhone and iPad apps and I own both without doing anything other than updating the app normally. I'm not sure how the hell that happened but maybe Cave can do that for Deathsmiles.

I thought Don't Run With a Plasma Sword was kind of lame on the iphone, but on the new ipad with joypad is pretty cool to show off.

What's the coolest joypad game?
