Skullgirls- New Characters, Painwheel and Valentine, Announced [Full Roster Revealed]

Will this game have increased gamerscore (400)?

It's very close to Arcade NEXT which is what the marketing is using as teh switch, even though the PR suggests only April. I wonder if they'll be able to patch in the rest (separate from the extended gamerscore you can add via DLC).

Will this game have support for any 4 player local multiplayer modes?

I have renewed interest ever since I realized I might be able to afford this or another arcade game with spare points from the last time I bought a card.

Also...

You asked for it, and we're giving it to you: Skullgirls is coming to handhelds in early 2013!

http://skullgirls.com/2012/04/skullgals-coming-to-handheldgaming-systems-in-early-2013/

I noticed the following bit:
Squigly is a zombie opera singer inhabited by the parasite Leviathan, and bests her opponents using “stance cancels” and spatial control powers. Umbrella, little sister of Skullgirls mainstay Parasoul, wields her voracious living umbrella in battle, which grows hungrier and more powerful the longer it isn’t used.

Obviously the rest of that article is a joke but is there truth in the above quote?

The game won't have the increased gamerscore because the limit was raised after all that was implemented into this game. However, they have said they are looking into patching an upgrade the future. As for four player modes I assume you mean similar to 2v2 from SFxT or MK? Not to my knowledge. At least not initially but I think there is the desire to add something like that down the line.

Request to the developer that posts on Gaf. Please price this accordingly on the PS3 for people in Australia. Our dollar has being worth more than US one for 2-3 years now. Sidhe (Shatter guys) did the right thing, i hope you guys do the right thing aswell.

So I asked our marketing guy about this, and he said that it'll be priced equivalently with whatever the XBLA version's 1200 points equals in your currency.

Since Shatter was a PS3-exclusive, they had more freedom on this. As far as I know, MS only allows one points pricepoint worldwide (i.e. you can't do 1200 in the US and 800 in ANZ), and wouldn't like it if the game was priced significantly differently on the other platform.

So, OT going up tomorrow? Normally I don't like adding seemingly random people to XBL / PSN but I think I'll need some people to play with.

Also if I'm doing poorly I'll blame the seimitsu.

I found this...
Mike Z on SRK said:
- Can't do custom-four-player assists as was asked because those frames really don't exist at all unless you're the point character. There isn't anywhere close to enough space in memory on either PS3 or 360 to store 6 characters at once, and we had to do a bunch of magic to get SG working. :^) It could be a PC feature, but that's for much later. Though four-to-six-player SG is on the list as an update, because I LOVED that in MvC1.
So I guess it's something we might see down the road. I like the idea A LOT, but spectator and multi person lobbies are where it's at right now. I want to hype the game up with tons of people, but it's a lot harder to do that when folks are waiting their turns with no spectating. MvC3 died a horrible death for me and my friends after a while because of that and UMvC3 still hasn't rekindled my interest. I'll do my part to keep the game alive in my circle until the fateful patch.

I have no interest in playing this game whatsoever...

...but I'm going to buy it anyway for three reasons:

1. An small developer did a great job making this.
2. An American developer made a fighting game.
3. We need new IPs.

I really hope this game does well.

My big dream is for someone to offer Reverge Labs a license to develop a fighter for them after this game and for them to turn into a big hit in the industry for producing solid fighters like Skullgirls.

I don't really care which license so long as they can make enough money to keep up this series and put in all the cast they dreamed of someday. Getting to play licensed stuff from them in addition to that would just be icing on the cake. I'd bet Toei would go for it. This game has japanese fanbase all over it so it'd win them over if they were looking for another Kamen Rider or Sentai fighter to be made.

I'd also be interested in seeing what Reverge would do with Skullgirls spinoff features like beat em up modes like in Tekken 6 only 2d if they made some real money and could afford to do a full cast release on console someday with all those cool designs of theres. So many dreams for this studio. Take my money. I'm willing to show my love for what you are with my wallet. You've earned it.

Would Reverge be interested in a license?

My wish is for them to make the spiritual successor to Samurai Shodown with their next game, but I'll be so old then- Skullgirls may be a 4-5 yr project at this rate with the DLC/add-ons.

Haha, it sounds more like you've got dreams for a studio of your own.

My wish for Reverge is to confirm that PSN date as 4/10.

Why is it that fans always want more licenses and no more new IP's?

New = best

Its so crippling, very little times does a license do anything good for you, thats just an invitation to have an IP owner breather over your head and tell what you can and cant do.

As a developer, that sucks. Stifles creativity, vision and the product itself.

If I was a company that had an original IP and then had to switch to a license because of big $$$, I would be really disheartened. Working on something you create from the bottom up is the best experience a game dev can have.

Maybe for other genres, but for fighters I don't really get that feel. MvC doesn't seem too stifled because of the license. Sonic was a fun addition in Brawl. Though the game has tons of problems, it's still really cool to see the Tekken characters in a SF engine with SFxT. I've seen lots of people getting excited for the VF characters in DOA5. The Naruto fighters I've played have always been fun. I think I remember Jump All-Stars being called a fun game, though the licensing means we never got it in NA, sadly. Oh, and then the DBZ games are . . .

Yea, anyway, from a fan's perspective licenses are fun. Sure, there's restrictions for the devs in places, but it shouldn't be hard to see why fans like licensed stuff.

Isn't Reverge's next game going to be something that isn't a fighter?

It depends on the license and how strict they are, but it can be interesting trying to create within the confines of a license. Especially if you can put a different kind of spin on it.

Making your own thing is unambiguously better, but licensed stuff isn't always terrible.

Also...

Just got pictures of the first two fight sticks before they are mailed out to Texas Showdown 2012 and PowerUp 2012.

...I'm probably going to have to get me one of these after we get through all of the tournaments.

A couple of quick questions guys. Sorry but there's a couple of things I'm just not sure on and I'm kind of interested in this game.

Is this a VS game (2vs2) or (1vs1)? I feel like from the videos I've seen it's both or maybe I'm just confused.

Also, will this be super hardcore or will it be a little noob friendly? I really enjoy fighters but I'm really just competent and nothing special. I could hold my own during SFIV but I was absolutely terrible at MVC3 (I'm not a huge fan of tag games. Too fast and too much to think about for me).

Thanks for the help in advance.

You get to choose either 1, 2, or 3 characters on your team. It's like Capcom vs. SNK 2 if you've ever seen that.

I don't know how noob friendly it will be but between the more 'hardcore' fg players and the Skullgirls internet fanfic fans I keep whining about, I think there will be a decent mix of players.

Also where is the OT?!

Like all fighters, it's as hardcore as you make it. If you go online against random people you don't know, you'll likely get beaten pretty badly a few times because some people out there are definitely going o be better than you. That goes for everyone, though. If you're just going to play locally, or online with people you know, you should be able to have a lot of fun. The game doesn't look as fast as Marvel, but I haven't played it so I can't say for sure. And since you could make it so you only do 1v1 with people you know, the tag mechanic shouldn't be an obstacle for you either.

Thanks for the help in advance.

It's both. You can have 1 super-powered character with much more health, 2 decently-powered characters with good health or 3 average-powered characters with okay health. More than one gives you the benefits of team supers and all the team mechanics that go with that, but 1 super-powered character can, for example, total destroy an average-powered character on a 3-char team with a single really good combo.

To me, it doesn't look as hardcore or as fast and spazzy as MvC3, but no one can really answer that yet until more people get their hands on it. There's a very detailed training mode with the game, but we haven't seen the final version of it yet. The demo will have it and you can read a blog post about it here.

Kinda like a mix. Close to Capcom VS SNK 2, in that it allows you to select up to 3 character per team. So you can choose 1 Super power char, 2 medium powerful, or 3 weaker. Assist are only available with 2 or 3 person teams, and of course, those who are tagged out can regain health.

So it's up to how you wanna play in the end.

It's a mix of both. It has some allowances to make the game easier to digest (such as tech that won't let you jump, if you try to do a 360/circle motion, or an anti-infinite system that allows you to get out of repetative combos that go on too long), but also some "hardcore" things, such as Instant Air dashes, crazy frame traps, indepth training mode that lets you see the hitstun on attacks, etc.

It should be a good thing for a beginner to get in early with. EVERYONE will be learning this game at the same time, unlike a SF style game, where you have years of "Oh, yeah, this is Ryu!" experience.

It's not as fast-paced as MvC, and it should be easier to read the activity than the mess that can happen at the most hype moments of marvel. So if you like the appeal of such a game, but want something that feels a bit more grounded, this game probably has a solid chance with you.

Links, Chains, Buffers?: I haven't heard much mention of links. They're THERE (they just have to be!) but they don't seem to be as vital. Game has a universal chain system. Dunno how it's buffers work off hand, sure someone else can answer!

Any chance for some gamerpics/PSN avatars or maybe in the future?

My points are ready and I cant wait for next week!

Avatars, yes. MS Gamer Pics... probably not.

GamerPics have a limit of 64x64, and there really isn't a lot you can do in that.

They won't be live for a while, though - it takes Sony 7-8 WEEKS (that's four times as long as a full game) to approve Avatars, because Japan has to approve them.

Just wanted to let you know that I think you're a cool dude.

Hope you end up liking the actual game in the end.

Have you guys officially announced the release date yet? If not, any idea when that's going to happen? Is the 360 date solid and the psn date is what's holding an official anouncement up?

...I can't really comment on this right now, unfortunately. To get an idea of the situation I'm in, go (try to) find my original announcement post!

...Hmm? What?

Oh, look a video!

Some day I hope to explain the meaning behind this video.

I want one for my Xbox Avatar...gimme

I really wish she was going to be a DLC character. One of my favorite designs, but heard it's not for Skullgirls.

Right now I'm starting to worry about the 10th for SG, but thankfully I got something else coming out that way if it doesn't come out (FE Beta 3)

I don't know if it's changed with kinect, but with the old Xbox 360 vision camera (the one that supported Uno, etc) you could use it to make custom avatars. I had a friend with a Samus Aran xbox avatar because he took a photo of Samus with the Vision cam.

Yeah, mine is the receipt for the last 360 I returned/exchanged. :)
Unfortunately only those on your FL can see it.

I really hope this is a lock for next week. I'm in fighting game limbo. For some reason SFxT isn't holding my attention and I've gone back to AE. Really looking forward to something fresh.

Wait, I can't find that post right now but... Are you telling me there's NO Skullgirls coming out on XBOX Live next week?

I hope not, I hope Ravidrath only means the PSN version... I mean, that'd suck for the guys who were planning on get it on there, but I want mah Skullgirls next week!

So according to twitter Reverge is deleting posts referring to the 4/11 release date

also, according to Twitter Jojo's is coming out on XBLA. I hope that last one's true. If so, RIP P4U
