Fuck off Sega, Tails and Knuckles are sacred!
Why are people still buying Sonic games
Why are people still buying Sonic games
Fucking this. I can't see why people are shitting the bed over the proposal of openworld gameplay. If anything, it will encourage exploration and physics based gameplay in the game design which is what the classics were about. So, I suppose the linear boostfest they have now is the type of genius Sonic needs? Fans have been outclassing Sega for quite some time now.
Also, here's a fan's take on the open world gameplay. Looks amazing to me.
I don't see why you should be worried. ST has a brilliant art team that has absolutely left my jaw on the ground in the last five years. Alongside music, the art has been the most consistent, pleasing aspect of the franchise in the last half decade. When you even have Iizuka coming out stating they're developing a next engine that isn't focusing on realism, you have me drooling at the possibilities of an evolved Hedgehog engine, possibly free of the track-racing style boundaries. Their tech and art team seem to really sing together, and I can't wait to see what they cook up with next-gen. I'm dreaming of a playable Pixar movie. It's too bad, because I love how the Hedgehog Engine makes things look.
Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Generations have absolutely beautiful landscapes complemented by the lighting.
I'm still a little surprised they ended up rushing a Sonic Generations game for 3DS as opposed to making a little room for Sonic Generations on Wii (since that's where the prime audience seems to be).ShockingAlberto said:This is probably because it missed the biggest Sonic-buying console userbase, but at the end of the day, a "struggling" SEGA is going to try and go to what makes them money.
I guess it's because I was looking forward to another game with the current form of the Hedgehog Engine. If it's an evolution of the Hedgehog Engine and following the emphasis on the lack of realism and the nice art assets created, I'm not worried then.I don't why you should be worried. Actually, when I showed some of my friends who don't play games some screens of Sonic Generations, they thought it was a Pixar film at first, lol.I'm dreaming of a playable Pixar movie.

knuckles ruined sonic forever.
Generations did not sell very well.

Shit began falling apart already with the inclusion of Tails.
that's a lie. Sonic Generations has sold really well. We will see the numbers once SEGA Sammy releases their financial report.
maybe sonic himself cursed sonic.

Forget a reboot I want Sonic Adventure 3!!

I thought it was confirmed it exceeded 2 million sales? Of course these days that's considered a flop. Hello videogame crash.
Typically meeting at Sega HQ or wherever:
"Hey guys, reviews are rolling in, turns out Sonic Generations isn't half bad, actually it's pretty good, a step in the right direction after all the crap we've been rolling out."
"..."
"FUCK IT LET'S REBOOT THE SERIES"
what sega needs to do is release like a portable chao virtual pet in the shape of a vmu.
that would be kewl.
The strangest thing about the Sonic series isn't that they continue to keep making games (at this point that is just a continuous joke), it's that there are some people that actually like them.
I like the 3D formula from Colors and Generations.

The last numbers Sega released were below Mario & Sonic at the Olympics. For a game that supposedly took four years to develop and was released at winter, it performed under expectations.
It did less on PS360 combined than Colours did on just the Wii.
I'm sure they were hoping for 3 million+ easily with so many platforms being supported. Hopefully all the work of the past three games won't go to waste, but with talk of a redesign and all that stuff, I expect the worst focus-tested garbage possible. Is the team that made Generations still intact after the recent news?
Just as I have said earlier in the thread.
There is no reason they could not fit that level design in a open world environment. Open world to some seems to mean empty, it doesn't.
As for that Demo, that's exactly what it is. It's just a demo. The work that has been done on it is fantastic, and there is plenty for potential.
The source claimed the company intends to target the young audience bent on physical collectibles by perhaps going so far as to require physical emblems and collectibles to unlock special features in future Sonic series.
Fuck off Sega.
Stick to what works, ffs.
Technically you sort of already got that. Sonic Unleashed was called Sonic World Adventure in Japan.
Sonic Adventure 3 = Sonic 06
This is fact
Sonic 2006 is Sonic Adventure 3 in all but name. It combines what made Adventure 1 and 2 different from the other Sonic games into one perfect storm of shit.NO!
As long as its not written Sonic Adventure 3 on the box, it does not exist.![]()
SEGA Japan's consumer division (Their console software development team) and their arcade division have not been affected by last week's news. Only SEGA West has, none of SEGA Japan's core development teams have seen any job losses
The strangest thing about uninformed posts, is that they seem to ignore Colors and Generations, two genuinely polished, enjoyable, fun games. Of course let's continue letting 06 and half of Unleashed's reputation erase the last two games from history.
Two good games on top of a massive pile of shit. Great track record.
How do you go from Colors and Generations to this

The gameplay styles are the same, the hub world from Adventure 1 is in it and different storylines consisting of multiple characters from Adventure 2 are in it. They tried making Sonic Adventure 3 and it didn't work.
