Analyst on Wii U: "Competitive position has deteriorated", "No Activision support".

Nintendo is in no way screwed. They have fucking smash brothers to get people to buy their consoles, and pokemon for the handhelds. You just cant touch those two things. Toss in a new mario or zelda game and yeah GG

Y'all aren't sick of Mario, Zelda, Smash Bros, Pokemon yet? Nintendo will always sell to the faithful but how many of them are really out there outside of boards like this.

What is this bullshit about Activision not supporting Wii-U in anyway come from? I've been reading Activision has been vowing support for Wii-U as late as Feb of this year, what changed?

Oh no, teh lolz you dun has enuff shaders, baibai no support for u

nsmb ds, nsmb wii, mario kart ds and mario kart wii didn't sell for a combined total of near 100 million because of nintendo fans. and that's just mario

All of the games you mentioned are pretty unique in the industry. If Nintendo's primary franchises were an FPS and a vanilla JRPG, sure, I could understand getting tired of them, but there are very few 3D platformers, Zelda like adventure games or party fighters on the market. Nintendo usually change things up enough that the gameplay doesn't feel like a rehash. Compare Super Mario Galaxy to Sunshine.
I can understand being sick of the IP though.

Wasn't the Gamecube highly profitable and successful for them, regardless of its missed potential?
Making money of your worst selling system ever, doesn't make it a successful product... Or so I keep hearing. Neither does making lots of money of your best selling system apparently.

Basically, they're doomed.

I'm more sick of the umpteen Call of Duty games we got this gen, and I don't even play Call of Duty

If that's true about Activision that's pretty bad news indeed.

Why?

It seems as if it would be a small concern if Ubi left the scene. But in all honesty, Nintendo is probably the only company that can still survive well with minimal third party support. As a matter of fact out of 60 titles that sold over a million on the list, there are only two from Activision. COD:world at war and guitar hero. So if that list is true it probably isn't a big deal for nintendo anyways.

But the thing is that Call of Duty is just one property from a 3rd party - it doesn't define the platform.

Nintendo's do. Many people will argue for better or worse that the above franchises are the main / only reasons to buy their hardware at all.

He didn't believe in Wii U's long term growth, but says that Nintendo should be better if they develop games for iOS/Android? Developing things on a third party environment in which Nintendo had no control at all is like the opposite of long term growth.

They make a lot more money with their current model than they would selling $1 apps.

What list are you talking about? If you're talking about the one that came from Nintendo Power, that was sales from just NA.

So, okay.

I'm not saying that the Wii U is gonna be a surefire hit. I don't really know how it's gonna go. There are certainly things working against it. It could really go any way, if you ask me. It could be another Wii, it could be another Gamecube, or somewhere in between. I don't claim to know.

...But you'd think that after the Wii and DS, analysts might have learned that you can't write off Nintendo just because things seem to be against them at the moment. They always have something up their sleeves. They seem to have gotten pretty good at this whole video game business thing.

Clearly none.

This argument might hold some water if nintendo just kep releasing the same game over and over (hint they don't). It's also hilarious that you think that nintendo is just selling to the faithful when this gen their big IP's have went from selling sub 6-7 million last gen to selling 20-30 million this gen. If all those are nintendo faithful i don't think nintendo will be too worried.

Is this post supposed to be taken seriously in any way? Look at the sales charts. Wtf are you talking about? I guess the 20+ million people who bought Mario Kart DS and Wii consisted of only Nintendo fans on message boards, right?

With a install base as large as the DS and Wii has and that Mario is the one of the most recognizable characters in the world I'm not really sure that means that the Wii U will sell gangbusters. People will always buy an Mario varient 1st party title with their new systems. Mario is Nintendo. Those games will always do great numbers.

Yeah and this "analyst" didn't seem to care that Apple and the iTunes business model is not invulnerable to collapse. I agree that the problem with Wii U is that they may not reach the number of audience that Wii had, but putting games on iOS/Android is never the answer.

i kinda have a hard time believing activision would turn down an opportunity for revenue, but maybe they're super turned off by how it's not gonna be a superconsole like durango. maybe they're planning all next gen games to play on durango-like systems and the wii u doesn't fit in that plan. meanwhile, they don't have enough teams to make a wii u port, which would require learning and developing on the upad.

it's definitely possible.

Not you, AniHawk.

Not you, AniHawk.

i'm just saying, it's possible. the talk behind the scenes seems to be people are confused of the system because of the controller, and are not betting on it to do well.

if activision isn't into it, it might amplify those fears.

Final specs!
I don't think we're getting that, they're probably just going to show it off as what it can do and not discuss details outside confirming the basics. It can do HD and the like. We'll probably get specs when some techie gets a unit and opens it up.

I hope people in the audience at e3 stay silent or even boo Nintendo at the appropriate times. WiiU is a hardware turd and Nintendo needs to know that instead of splashing fanboy jizz their way.

Nintendo is smart they don't want to compete with Sony and Microsoft for the bleeding edge trophy. They will sell the Wii U at a good price
Nintendo Faithful will buy it
Everyone else will buy it for their kids/grand kids
When they drop the price for the PS4/720 release everyone else will buy it.

Maybe. It's possible that Nintendo will drop just enough technical details that internet detectives can narrow down the possible configurations.

The unreleased device with unknown specs is a confirmed hardware turd and only a fanboy would disagree with this assessment!

Hang on, just gonna rub one out in the next few minutes

Did everyone forget other publishers ARE Nintendo's competitors?? Woooops, Iwata just slapped you in the face with a dead fish.. Nintendo doesn't NEED anyone, they could sell their own hardware, own games and stomp the competition. It's just nice when and if they ever do get some real 3rd party support. I'm not convinced anyone is really all that interested.. sure Wii was like the PS2 but most of it was garbage IMO of course..

So this guy is just an analyst who got his info from all the WiiU "news" going about right? Why does gaf over blow everything?
