November 6. September and October are too crowded. A better bet would be even closer to Christmas to help ramp up the media coverage.
 
Isn't the next Halo book from Karen Traviss (Halo: Thursday War) supposed to be out before Halo 4? The book is to be released on October 2nd.

I think it does too. Let's remember that every franchise waxes and wanes. Whether or not CoD is dethroned is debateable, but even if that's unlikely Halo can still capture greater mindshare.

Look at it this way: ask someone on the street to hum a few bars from CoD. Then ask them to do the same for Halo.

Market share and sales aren't the only indicator of cultural relevance. By that barometer Halo has to be one of the most successful media franchises in recent memory. $3.x billion isn't shabby.

What I meant by marketed correctly -- the bullet points:

- Return to form for the franchise (The long-awaited sequel to 2007's Halo 3!)
- New game modes and features, including customizable loadouts!
- Spartan Ops -- an evolution of Firefight. Take the cooperative experience to the next level. Plus, new content weekly/bi-monthly to keep you entertained!
- Earn credits across all game modes to upgrade your Spartan. Each Spartan is a unique reflection of the player. (Customizable codpieces for teabagging would sell copies, too.)
- Rich, cooperative campaign experience

Toss in a deep map editor that 343 promises to look toward for future matchmaking maps, and you've got a chance at gaining the lead this year, imo.

I just don't understand the logic of wanting to share the lime light with any big holiday game. Release in Sept and there is nothing else you have to worry about. Release in Oct/Nov and there are a TON of games you have to share the spotlight with, and you ensure then that you're not even going to be the most anticipated FPS in that time frame.
 
As Ghaleon pointed out, we probably wouldn't even be discussing a November release date if "Holiday 2012" wasn't the tentative date from the beginning. Makes it sound like November-December to me... Unless we're looking at a Labor Day release, haha :)
