It was in the draft of the script I read but apparently has been cut out of the movie.

Which is surprising given that it was apparently a 'contractual stipulation' by Hasbro.

I wonder if everyone had a crisis of conscious working on this shit?

its tricky making a movie like this. You can either end up with transformers or Battlefield LA, which takes itself way to seriously, or you can end up with GI JOE, a movie that really shouldn't work but somehow does.

The trailers give me a mixed message - they're all talking gruff and it feels like a Crysis license, but then some of the action is so OTT it looks fun

I don't care if the movie is based on a boardgame.For all I care it could be a movie based on a milkcarton. I liked the movie for what it was and I wouldn't mind seeing even more of these action blockbuster movies!

Also that line 'you suck my battleship' isn't in the movie.

Honestly I don't see how this is worse than movies like Twilight, countless animated Pandas/penguins/etc sequels, Adam Sander movies, etc etc that I stay away from.
 
Horrible film. Save your cash. Hadn't heard of it before seeing it yesterday so I went in fresh.

Transformers 2 has the richest of stories and can be considered a classic when compared against Battleship. And TF2 was garbage outside of the admittedly cool robot action.

Never before have I been this tempted to walk out of a cinema but I didn't want to ruin my buddies potential enjoyment and kept quiet (he hated it).
 
I will see this tomorrow night and after reading some of the cynism here from the moment the first trailer was released, I am intent in enjoying the heck out of it to spite you all

Just from the looks of it, this sounds implausible, but then you said Kitsch is great...and charismatic.

hopefully it will bomb and put the studio in administration

though considering the plague that is bad taste that covers the current earth allowing pure shit like Transformers to be a hit it will probably earn its money back

This movie isn't made for people who like insomnia curing movies like 'The fountain' , 'donnie darko' and zZZZzzzzzzZZ
 
just got back from watching it tonight.

pretty dam fun IMO.

had lots of humor in it ... the action is full on. but yeah, i enjoyed it.
 
It was... competent, I guess.

By that I mean it wasn't nearly as insulting as a Michael Bay joint, even if it had the narrative structure of one of his movies. It was well shot, the action was easier to follow and the humor, of which there wasn't a lot, not as crass.

Still, the whole script felt like it was co-written by Hasbro execs and the Navy, which led to some incredibly cheesy moments such as:
- "Your life is a fucking mess dude. You need not get your shit together. You need a game change. You're getting in the Navy." Loud music, late title card. Got a good laugh in the audience.
- The whole
vets "reveal", with Thunderstruck playing in the background. I'm guessing they were real vets
judging by their terrible line delivery.

So if you want to see what a $200M ad for the Navy and inspired by Transformers would look like, try to go with a few pals while moderately drunk and you might have a good time.

Oh, and I can't believe Kitsch didn't yell YOU SUNK MY BATTLESHIP at the end. Because they did. No excuses.
 
Gonna see this next week. Can't wait. Love the occasional mindless action film with lots of CGI and explosions. There's always room in my heart for these types of films.

The plot looks dumb but it's pretty and there's lots of splosions so I'll probably end up watching it. It's basically Crysis: The Movie.

Just finished watching it. I found it an incredibly sad and moving film about a guy who gets kicked in the face at the start of the story and through his brain damaged eyes we witness his decent into madness. Genius. Berg may get the Oscar for this.

Movie looks like it will be ridiculous mindless fun with big ass battleships fighting aliens. I'm not expecting It Happened One Night.

I'd make an OT, but I have no photo editing skills so it would ghetto as hell!
 
One of the worst movies I've seen in my life. So many cringe moments it was the first time I was genuinely considering walking out. Some of the most awful moments.

1. When the alien vessel lifts itself from the water and 'transforms', crewman says "It must be the North Koreans".

That quote just personified the entire movie for me, which is a shame because if they had cut out some awful moments altogether and re-wrote the protagonists' story to be based on his relationship with his brother rather than his fiance, who more than anything convinced me the director wanted to out-do Bay with his sex close ups.
 
I wanted them to base the movie on the game. What would have been really cool is if, after the alien ships have appeared and everything, due to the force field thing blocking most contact with the outside world, the movie then basically boils down to a huge naval version of the game. The guys on the outside have to give orders to attack based on co-ordinates without being able to see the enemy, and the guys inside would carry out the attack and somehow report if it had been a "hit" or a miss". That would have been cool as shit. I mean, okay, there was a little bit of that with the buoys or whatever, but it wasn't really that. I wanted the ships to be of different lengths and all that stuff like in the game.

Disappointment :(
 
Just saw this, and thought it was quite bad. Awful acting & no likeable characters. I had hope for more full-scale battles with all the battleships, carriers, destroyers etc against the aliens, not just the 3 ships that were trapped.

2 out of 5 stars, I only liked it because I love real-life warships.
 
A shame, the first half an hour or so of the movie is really funny and has an awesome vibe. Then it flips on you, and transformers 4 starts playing. Even the military advertisement is there.
 
this movie is gonna be sick

just for the action

i'm not going in to see the acting. or the story. i just want to see humanity kick some alien ass. with boats.
