Holy shit @ the mods for Freespace 2.

Edit: Wait, the full release of Wing Commander Saga (not even a month old now) doesn't need Freespace 2? It's just free?!

I got DeusEx because of this thread. So many great games that I just don´t have time to play. GoG - two thumbs up

Technically jetpacking, the other 2? classes suck, just jetpack around and watch time fly.. Of course this is nostalgia talking.

Tempted to get both as well, never played Freespace 2.

The more you say the more I realize I have no clue what the game is, so I have to buy it.
Just bought:

WHISPERED WORLD, THE
SHOGO: MOBILE ARMOR DIVISION
GIANTS: CITIZEN KABUTO
ANACHRONOX

All for 17quid.

It really depends on if giants citizen kabuto has a good tutorial, since I've heard it's a very unique game.
The tutorial is fine because the game isn't that unique, it's like another take on the Battlezone remake (which in turn was an evolution on the game Uprising). The Kabuto section in particular got really repetitive.

It's a RTS/action hybrid, except for the Kabuto segment which discards the RTS.

Honestly I think you made kinda iffy choices if you don't have other, better games.

Bought Freespace 2 and Giants, can't wait, if anyone randomly feels like linking the graphical overhaul or whatever mod, please do. :)

Also does GoG send receipt emails?

It's only about about a quid, I can pretend it's an arcade game I put some coins in so I don't feel bad about wasting money.

Pretty sure they do.

What would push you over the edge?

Knowing how good it was.

Got Fallout for free last week. Should I buy Fallout 2? Never played any of the FO games. I'm primarily a JRPG player.

If you're nervous about it just play fallout first and if you enjoy it and want more you shouldn't be afraid of spending the normal 6 bucks on it. If you have a good feeling and don't mind spending 3 bucks on something you might not enjoy, then go for it.

Went and bought Freespace 2. No plans to play it right now, need to get joystick (yes, it can be played without but it is a space sim). And once i get a new computer. Then i can finish my GOG collection of games (Gothic 1-2, Fallout 1-2, Thief 1-2, Freespace 2).

May I suggest the Microsoft Sidewinder? I bought mine from ebay for $20-30 from some guy in Arizona 3 months ago.

Nice avatar btw. Then I assume you'll get to use that new joystick of yours in August :)

Anyone who doesn't get Wing Commander Saga is a fool who hates everything that is great about gaming.

Damnit GOG! You got me with Outcast a while back, and now you've got me again with Theme Hospital. Such great memories from both those games.

Do the GOG.com versions of the Earthworm Jim games have saving? Are they the old Win95 ports, or the DOS ones?
I believe EWJ1 does not, but I know EWJ2 does. And yes, the first game is the DOS port, not the excellent Win 95 version (Lord knows if that'd even work on Windows 7 anymore).

Does W7 support Sidewinders? I still have the 2nd version (when it stopped being ambidextrous) and it's USB, unlike the original which used gameport.

Still, I've heard that the 360 pad works really well. If anyone has used the 360 pad in FS2, did you need to use the keyboard for much or does the pad have enough functionality to eliminate then need?

So I've got the FS2 Open Launcher and I'm just trying to start the FS2 campaign... which one do I load? There's a file called fs2_open_3_6_12r_INF. Is that the right one?

The only thing I dont like about those ports (DOS) is that the 360 controller is too sensitive or something to be properly calibrated.

Why wouldnt the Windows 95 version work?

You should be able to tweak the sensitivity I think, either via a front end or .cfg files. People prefer DOSBox versions if all else is equal because DOSBox is extremely versatile, despite being a bit unintuitive. I know I've read people using 360 controller for DOS flight sims... does EWJ really use analog controls?

Edit: The reason why Win 95 is sometimes a mess, is the older versions of Direct X / Direct Draw a lot of games used were not made with backwards compatibility in mind, so things broke very easily down the road I believe.

EWJ1 worked just fine for me with a fresh install and a wireless 360 pad. It was a bit strange however, when I went into the "calibrate joypad" option Jim was spinning around like there was no dead zone on the stick. Once I started actually playing the game it controlled fine.

From a helpful goon:

Dominic White said:
Anyone - and I do mean ANYONE who hasn't got Freespace 2 yet, get it. Not the original game, because you can get that for free, remade and upgraded. Freespace 2.

With just a couple of clicks and a single download, you can upgrade it from this to this.

The FSOpen installer comes with an upgraded Freespace 1 camapaign, and the Silent Threat expansion completely rebuilt from the ground up, as it was kinda lame when it first came out. And about a dozen of the best fan-made campaigns, some of them as long as Freespace 2. Some longer, even. And there's dozens more after that.

Better movies, imo.

All this for only three dollars... There should be no hesitation to purchase this, really.

Yeah it forces me to use the analog stick to move around (wired 360 pad). I have another controller that seems to work better though. With the 360 pad I cant use diagonal shots.

EDIT: Came across this -

http://www.gog.com/en/forum/earthworm_jim_series/joypad_compatability_problems

Says changing the timing to false under the .conf file should fix the problem with 360 pads.

EDIT: Scratch that lol, made it worse. Going to redownload and see if that helps. All else fails, i'll just use my other controller.

Damnit- I decided to give Caesar 3 a whirl this afternoon for old time's sake. Four hours later, and I'm looking up efficient building blocks on C3 Heaven and planning out cities' industries. I've been well and truly sucked back in...

Maybe they're working with Valve on a way for linking Steam, or something? Or logging in to your Steam account via GOG, sees you own it, then adds it to GOG.

Found via the Steam Forums:

1. Hit Windows + R

2. Type 'regedit' press enter http://i.imgur.com/x8yFv.png

3. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE --> SOFTWARE --> Wow6432Node (ONLY IF x64) --> CD Projekt RED --> The Witcher 2

4. Check the "Serial" registry entry, it should show your The Witcher 2 CD-Key! http://i.imgur.com/BNgXn.png

5. (optional) Redeem @ www.gog.com/witcherbackup on the 17th of April!

EDIT: For authenticity purposes, the key matches the same format as my other retail copy of the game, so by logic it'll work on redemption @ GoG.

(XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX)

If it doesn't show a CD-Key, contact GOG customer support with a Proof of Purchase (per a mod at the Witcher 2 forums).
I don`t usually double post but since editing doesn`t show up .

CDP Red will be handing out cd-keys for the GOG backup copies . However be prepared to show proof of purchase such as a receipt or Proof of Purchase confirmation email .

I used to own Shogo years ago but I lost the disc many moons ago.
How does it hold up?
Pretty well if you don't mind the old school quicksave-dependent style that has occasional deathtraps. If you get it, know that the assault rifle and sniper rifle can zoom. After you have pushed the number to select it, the button turns into a zoom toggle. For some reason this isn't written in any of the instructions or shown in game.

The main menu flickers whenever the video they used for the background loops and text that pops up when people talk is messed up but the audio still comes through just fine. Minor annoyances. Sound effects are cool anime style. Other than that, I guess it's just the oldness that holds it back at all. Textures would have held up better if they went for a more clean look, and it doesn't have the metallic looking surfaces we'd expect from robots in modern games.

Edit: Haha, apparently the text problem is from windows font smoothing. There doesn't seem to be a fix for the menu loop flash. Some guy said every version he has played since it originally came out was like that.

What?!? Gog is giving me a gog copy of the witcher 2?!? I love them so much.

Not hearing about that is what I get for missing the beginning of that stream isn't it.

Dear Gamer,

Thank you for applying to become a pro editor of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition for Xbox 360. We were overwhelmed by the number of applications we’ve received. Unfortunately we are unable to offer a copy to everyone. Even though you weren’t selected to review our game this time, we still hope that you will get a chance to play it.

To show our appreciation we would like to offer you something special. Please accept this code for The Witcher (the first part of our game) on GOG.com.

Your gift code for the game is: ***-*****

To redeem your code, simply click on the link https://www.gog.com/en/gift/ and follow the instructions.

Nice, although I can't activate it right now, the Open gift button is doing nothing.

Does gog charge to download their games now? I checked my checking account, and it showed I had a single charge for $0.08 from gog.com. I'm not entirely sure, but I think it was from the same day I downloaded one of the games on my account to my desktop.

They don't retain CC info so I don't believe so.
