The text of the article is giving me issues trying to post, could someone post an excerpt from the link above? Here is the results of the poll though.

I wonder how many people know about the Hughes Amendment and the National Firearms Act in regard to their concerns about automatic weapons. Lol

Would it actually be legal to own a nuke in America?

You have to pass the background check.

@Devolution: I don't see the issue? Is it the population, the method (online interview) or what? Considering it's an online interview the numbers don't seem to drastic to what you would probably normally find. I wonder if it was anonymous or if it was just a facebook post.

It's not the size, I just think a lot of "raw raw guns rights" people are on the internet. Might just be me though.

It is a bias that would have to be accounted for, I agree. I do think that with these surveys they contact people as opposed to vote on this issue polls sitting on a website. Same with a traditional phone polling I suspect.

The stats seem to suggest that most people favor stricter gun laws, but still are okay with people using lethal force to protect themselves.

I think I agree with that stance, even in the light of recent events.

But the results are not "raw raw guns right".
There's a strong support for stronger regulation, background checks and limitation on automatic weapons.

That's still for the right to own and use guns. And limiting the sale of automatic weapons doesn't mean outright banning them.

I know this from personal experience. I own guns legally. But my roommates not so much.

I think it depends on where you live. Coming from a rural state with lots of hunting and a lower crime rate I would guess most people obtain their guns legally (coincidentally the state is also very red and anti wolf).

Though most people apparently are worried about automatic weapons lol. There have been about 3 crimes committed by lawful machine gun owners since the passage of the NFA in 1934. One who was a cop emptied his Thompson into his wife and her lover when he found them in bed.

And you're surprised by that?
You think that an offline survey will show something else?

Yes, people in the US love their guns, but most of them are reasonable about it, which is what that survey shows.

I just don't see the point of allowing people to legally have automatics. What use do they serve other than to shoot people? I mean there are ways to still legally shoot them so it's not like you can't go out and have some fun, but they really don't serve a civilian purpose.

I wanna fire off a Tommy gun at some point.

This is the shit I mean. It's regional. Most people around here don't "love their guns."

I dont get the whole concealed carry. I mean.. if you had a weapon in public I would think the law would force you to show it. Open carry.

I do too, plus living in Florida I see all these people with shotguns and assault rifles. Really? You need all that for what reason?

I'm ok with a handgun for defense and maybe a hunting rifle for...well, hunting though.

Look up the knob creek machine gun event. You can have lots of fun with them and legit MG never commit crimes as the process to get one insure if a criminal wants one they'll mod a legit one.

Sometimes, I wonder if the US should really be split up into little regions. The political and even cultural divides are just too damn strong.

Cause I wanted to get an AK-74 because their fun to shoot and 1080 rounds for $150 (getting mine this Monday).

That's roughly my position. I'm fine with lethal self defense but I would like it if gun ownership specifically went down (both legal and illegal acquisition)

Best gun in CoD4 :P.

I see the appeal. I think automatics would be incredibly fun to shoot, I just don't see the practical application to owning one other than to use it recreationally. I think if you want to go through the steps to own one though you should be able to.

The world has too many borders as it is. People separating themselves from each other and painting their neighbors as "the bad guy" is what causes 90% of the misery in this world.
