Do you have to have a liquimetal coating in your opening hand or ?
I love the Liquidmetal Coating deck a ton, it's like the ultimate asshole deck.
Why no Crush though? Birds of Paradise would make the deck more explosive too, and really nothing says screw your $300 decks more than turn 1 BOP - turn 2 coating + crush taking out their only land.
Because Birds are expensive and I only have 1.
I love that liquidmetal coating deck and it's a budgeted deck too. I may have to borrow it and make one lol.
Now I kind of want to get into MtG...
I tried out my Black/Red sligh deck today against a W/B delver variant. I got him to low health so many times, but all it took was a Mirran Crusader equipped with a Batterskull and it was GG for me.
Stupid lifelink.
W/B Delver? How does that work?

What are the best sites for buying singles?
Felt the urge to play magic again after stopping about ten years ago. I'm considering getting the missing staple cards, and I feel way past buying boosters and trading.

Depends on where you live.
I wouldn't recommand ChannelFireball, though. Made a relatively big order there, never received it. They swear they shipped it, so I guess it may be USPS fault or something, but no way to prove it either way.

For standard/staple stuff I've had pretty good luck with just going to Ebay and searching for the card I want + free shipping.
What's a good starter set to buy for someone who wants to get into Magic? I've told a cousin of mine who lives abroad of Magic 2012 on PSN and he's liking the game and would like to try it out IRL.

What's a sligh deck?
Best game ever. Do it.
Just another name for Red Deck Wins really. Small, efficient creatures and burn. It's named after the player that first piloted it some success I believe.
If you just want to get the feel of it you can buy the starter decks, they're nothing spectacular but it's a 50 card deck (No legal for playing Friday Night Magic) but still usually pretty fun to dick around with. The new ones for Avacyn Restored should be out soon but you can get any really.
I believe these are all actually 60 cards now. Dunno when that switch happened. They are still only really good for casual magic or getting started because the card quality just isn't there (which is why they are so cheap).

My friend is playing a deck with Helvault and Worldslayer.
Think about it![]()
Anybody else think that Devastation Tide might be a sleeper?
It MURDERS token setups and would put a crimp in any kind of Frites deck.
I thought about it long and hard -- wanted to put it on an Invisible Stalker -- and I never could get past how expensive it is to play Worldslayer plus its equip cost.
What kind of scheme is he running?
The moment Helvault gets destroyed by Worldslayer, all the permanents he exiled with it will come back post-total-boardwipe, pretty much ensuring a GG if you had exiled 2-3 of your creatures beforehand.
Yeah, I know that. But again, Worldslayer costs 5 to cast and 5 to equip. It's a super expensive trick to try and set up. Not to mention Helavault costs 3 to cast and one to activate.
It depends on what kind of setup you have going on, but it's slow to set up and incredibly fragile as a combo. All it takes is one Ancient Grudge to put this down. I know I know, "dies to counter lololol" but I'm telling you, any deck worth its salt should be able to prevent a Helavault/Worldslayer combo from going off or simply out race it. It's just slow.
I'm curious as to whether his friend figured out a way to reliably push this combo off in a manner that wasn't asking to be cut down.
No idea what my friend was doing with his deck, it was just mono blue with invisible stalkers and random cards he had, plus worldslayer and helvault. This is my super fast iteration on a blue/white helvault/worldslayer shenanniganry deck:
Probably too hard to get going, but I have fun thinking about stuff like this![]()
I feel like the spirit of the combo is to load up a couple of threats in the Helvault and have Worldslayer break it open. Dungrove Elder is probably the worst possible creature to try that tactic with, since you won't have any forests left.![]()
I thought about that after I hit post. lol Then I said fuck it.
Maybe Daybreak Ranger, but I wanted a 3 drop with evasion.
Suggestions?
Undying anything.

Ooh I hadn't thought about a ramp. I'll have to think of that a bit more.
But yeah, I figured if I could get even a couple Champion of the Parish in there with another card, maybe a Hero of Bladehold, they'd basically be toast. That's why I was considering Adaptive Automaton, tooHe can come in as whatever type would be most beneficial.
